so story is i have a 92 eagle talon tsi 5 speed. Stage 4 pressure plate with 6 puck unsprung disk.

Driving home just crusing, getting ready to get off the highway, downshifted to 4th and it pops out of gear. So i thought maybe it wasn't in all the way so i go to put it back in and nothing. Just revs up, as if the clutch is pressed. I DO have pressure in my clutch pedal, i CAN put it in every gear ( or atleast it feels like it goes in every gear) but the car won't move. No fluids under the car, no smoking, nothing... Have about 4k miles on the clutch and fluids. Checked the shifter cables from the car to the tranny and they are all in tact, had my girl run through the gears as i watch the cables move on the transmission. Had her push in the clutch and the Clutch fork moves as it should. Checked all my axles and they were still in place.

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

I'm stumped, any ideas would be appreciated!!!

Puck style clutch's that are sprung are a bad idea. Its simply to much grab and will sheer rivets and break springs. Go to jack transmissions and it explains that. Either way i would not buy a 6 puck. I am running the ACT 2600 with street disc and love it. Rather burn up a $120 replacement clutch disc then something in the transmission due to clutch not slipping on a launch.

wouldent a SPRUNG clutch be less harsh then a solid disk on the tranny?

if anything happens with my ACT2600 and solid 6 puck. ill probably just go for a solid disk (if thats what you did saying street disk) i hear sprung creates less chatter... but hey like i said i DD on a solid 6 puck just fine

whats the benifits between a sprung vs a solid anyway? id think the solid would be less likely to fail. not in terms of wear and tear, but breakage cause of less moving parts.

the sprung disc reduces driveline shock...otherwise there is no difference...

+1 for what he said.

And yes a SPRUNG disk is less harsh on the tranny then a UN-sprung disk. But either way if you're not using your car as a track car then the 6 puck disk (sprung or UN-sprung) probably isn't the best option in my opinion. BUT like i stated before i have read and heard of people not having any issues. I guess it comes down to the product, some work and some don't.

I just ordered a stock disk from mitsubishi, it was like $74 and some change.. not bad

ya thats what my set up is, stock disk from mitsubishi with a stock TOB and a act 2100 pressure plate, couldnt be happier with the driveability and itll support 18 psi on my 14b when i decide to tune the car here in the future, or whenever i think ive got a 500 bucks to spare for supporting mods LOL

i havent had any issues with my 6 puck on the daily drive, but it does plan to see track days sometime. ill prob go sprung next time so there isnt so much chatter when shifting in low RPMS so far my ACT has lasted 1200 miles with no issues. the pedal feel is a little soft i think i need to adjust the engagement travel.

Well good luck with that 6 puck disk. I thought mine was good to, until 4k miles later LOL

These XTD (eBay) clutch discs are hit and miss as with any other Chinese performance product. My buddy had the same clutch and all his rivets sheared with less than 500 miles. You get what you pay for...

Your basic ACT street disc will hold gobbs of power with the right pressure plate... People overlook the pressure plate IMO when really it is a very important part to a good holding/shifting clutch. If you are slipping a full faced street disc with a heavy PP, I'd go strait to a Twin Disc.

so update on this again....

threw a street disk in straight from mitsubishi and now it wont engage, bled the clutch numerous times, and adjusted it multiple times as well. (it does have an inch of free play)

new throw out bearing as well

any ideas?

Disk installed properly? Pedal assembly and pivot bushings damaged? Damaged clutch master cylinder?

disk installed correctly, everything seems to work just fine, Master cylinder is failry new 11k-ish miles.

I'm thinking it's either the step on the flywheel wasn't cut right so it's not able to disengage far enough, or the stock disk doesn't work with the XTD stage 4 pressure plate...

possibility the clutch fork might of bent when the old disc sheared,

otherwise id start bleeding lines

your pressure plate should be fine and it should be in spec for whatever 4g63 clutch disc is in there

it wasn't in gear nor was it stuck in gear when the rivets broke, seem to have full traveling distance on the clutch fork when the clutch is pressed, i've bled the line atleast 4 different times.. still nothing

(thanks for the reply)

I had the exact same disengagement problem in my FWD with a sprung 6 puck and I got a shep pedal assembly and that fixed it. I'm currently in an AWD and sheared the rivets on my XTD unsprung. They warrantied mine without any hassles or arguing. Just emailed 2 pictures of it and "we'll ship a new one tomorrow". :thumb:

*BTW, this is why I won't use sprung discs anymore...
