Hey guys, finally income tax is in w00t w00t , i am wanting to upgrade my shitty t25 turbo "yuck" but i don't want to have to buy a socketed ecu and dsmlink or changing fuel delivery etc.. i mean if i have to i will but would rather not... i am not looking for full out fast and the furious speedster LOL, just a little more power then i have right now :D.... so what would probably be the best route to go? 14b? could i run a 16g without ecu mod or fuel mod? what would be best?

I would go with a 14b if you aren't wanting to upgrade the fuel system. You can run the 16g on the stock fuel system, but it will probably be slower than with the t25. It will max out the injectors before getting into it's efficiency range.

14b for such a small turbo is so much fun, it pulls pretty damn hard for what it is, quick spool too mine starts at like 2900 finishes at 3500, i have one on mine.

14b here it pulls very nicely im running 19psi. I will say this though after i tuned my car with ecm link it really woke the car up pulls even harder with the added timming.

theres not a whole lot of difference between that and the t25, the 14b is still a better turbo.

ok then hmm.. LOL i still think i want to go with a 14b after reading many statements about 50+ hp gain without modding anything but the swap to 14b but now the fun part .. i cant find one for sale urr the only one i have found being a 14b is for a gallant vr4 or some shit will that work or do any of you know where i can get a brand new 14b cheaper the better,, ya know best buy for the buck... not afraid to spend the money if i have to but ..... ya know what i mean.. any help on where to pick one up would be most helpful thanks..

There is a couple used ones for sale right now in the classifieds just make sure you/or get it rebuilt before putting it on.

yeah sorry i should of mentioned that... i have went through the classifieds on here and prefer to buy new so i don't have to worry bout buying junk with shaft play and having to rebuild... and to the key chain post .... i don't think i am gonna get much boost from that turbo LOL

The one from the VR4 will work. Exact same turbo. Could for peace of mind buy a rebuild kit for a used turbo if the the mechanicals are good and with a rebuild give you the peace of mind knowing its fresh and ready for abuse.

A t28 is definately not the same as a t25, but honestly I would buy link and then a Turbo down the road. Even if its next years tax return I would rather go that route. I would only go the 14b route if you had no intention for a 16g or bigger in the future or your t25 was blown and needed replacement. Good luck:thumb:

I honestly think that going with a 14b over a 16g is just a waste of money. You can easyly swap in a 16g without having to do any mods other than the turbo itself. And it also gives you room to do upgrades in the future it you decide to go for more power without having to swap out into a different turbo once again.

The T-28 is slightly smaller than the 16g. I will admit I am not sure if that is a small 16g, big 16g, or a evo 3 16g (MHI not ebay bullshit of course). You can find flow charts on Google easily for future reference.

Anyway, yes the 14b is a nice upgrade for a 2g. You don't really need fuel mods to notice a gain however you would need them of course if you want to run very much boost. I am keeping the boost around 15 PSI on my 1g although other people say 16 is about the limit on a stock fuel system, but those threads are OOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLDDDDDDDD. But just because those threads are old does not mean the information couldn't have been proven by that point.

As far as 14b vs 16g goes. Look at it this way, you are limited to around roughly the same power level because of fuel. If you aren't looking to upgrade fuel for a while why not go with the cheaper, smaller 14b that will spool quicker and give a slightly better power band. Unless you know 100% you are going to be buying a new fuel system and tuning device in the near future. The thing about the 14b is even though everyone on Earth has one they still sell quickly. There is also a huge price jump on MHI products likely because of the tsunami in Japan, but I haven't heard a real official answer as to why they went up. I'm assuming this because Mitsubishi halted production on certain lines and limited production on others to provide aid to the people in the area the factories and nuclear power plants they own.

I honestly think that going with a 14b over a 16g is just a waste of money. You can easyly swap in a 16g without have to do any mods other than the turbo itself; and as long as your not trying to run more boost than the internal wastegate is set up for.

This. The 16g requires the same install kit, flows more, can be had for around the same price, requires zero fuel mods at stock boost level, and leaves room for growth.

Either avenue you decide to take a set of used evo injectors would help as well. Have seen them as low as $80. Just don't see any reason to upgrade the turbo and not add additional fuel, especially in this case.

IMHO I would pick up link and a set of injectors. Play with the setup you have right now.

As for buying a 14b new, that is a bad idea. The cost of a new 14b far exceeds the cost of a used one with a fresh rebuild, and won't perform any better.

I've seen 2 people so far mention rebuilding the 14b before putting it on. You can get them in working condition for 100 or less all day long, i see no reason to rebuild a perfectly good working turbo.

Wow, please don't contribute unless you know what you're talking about.

This the t28 is a pretty big MHI turbo.
I would get link. It's a one time buy.
Yes it is extremely expensive but it opens up so many
Closed doors down the road. Take our advice and
Get it.
