does anyone know what the typical life of a stock evo 8 turbo as in mileage. My buddy's went bad a few days ago. It went bad after 82,000 miles on it.

he ran the car kinda hard when he first bought it in 2005. last 5 years or so iv never seen him drive it hard at all. Yes stock boost. The whole car is stock. I believe the only thing done to the car and this is since he has owned it was a re-flash on the ecu.

If it is well cared for on stock boost and not driven hard it SHOULD run past 80k. That also depends on previous owners as well. My starion's 12a went bad after around 115k and thats right where I would personally expect a rebuild to be in order on a properly cared for, not abused turbo.

he never replaced his spark plugs ever.. I know he was having an issue with his car in boost as it was spattering under boost like a year ago.. I told him it was most likely bad spark plugs but he never listen to me. So im assuming it was running rich the whole time do to fouled out plugs. Could that ruin a turbo faster?

ive seen a evo over go over 200k on a stock turbo and others blow them apart at 20k. I pulled mine off my evo at 80k and it was still in amazing shape. Its just time for him to either upgrade to a bbk full or a fp turbo if he wants to stay stock frame. He can even pick up a used 9 turbo (upgrade for the 8's) or a used 8 turbo for a few hundred. I personally just found a hell of a deal on a stock 8 turbo for 70 shipped to my door but that was a steal and a half for it, normally they go for around 250 right now..

I'll go with poor maintenance than if you never decided to do his plugs at the very least.

The owner killed the turbo. 82k is terrible service for a TD05H at stock boost levels.

Dirty/contaminated oil, worn/used oil, and overheated oil will cut a turbocharger's life to 1/10th of what it's normal service would be.

Hahaha I kinda figured Justin would chime in on this one....

LOL his problem not mine but thanks for the info. We picked up a stock evo 8 turbo from boostin performance for 350 bucks with no shaft play at all

Wow, you got hosed. Those things sell for $100-$150 on eBay every single day in perfect, usable condition.

Evo 8 16G oem turbo(04 05 06 07 08 evolution VIII) DSM | eBay

Mitsubishi Evo Turbo. Td05hr 16g | eBay

The IX turbos with the larger compressor cover and 10.5cm turbine housing are in higher demand and normally sell around what you paid.

ooh well im not the one that paid for it. and he needed it asap seeing that its his only car

You..Did your buddy post on widsm about it? I looked but didn't see nothing.

no he knows nothing about cars. evo that he has was bought for a graduation present back in 2005
