This will be an interesting build. The way I do things is a little different then others. LOL.

So when me and a friend first picked up this car 2 yrs a go we wern't sure what was wrong with it. I ended up getting the car from my friend because he never did anything with it after 2 yeras. I've been picking parts up here and there. Finally decided to do a compression test this week and find out what was wrong with the motor. My compression #'s was 120-80-0-0. 120 being cylinder # 4.

So on that note I started taking the head off. What I found was a blown headgasket. Thought to myself nice it would be a quick fix and be back on the road in no time. So then I flipped over the head to find a nice size hole where the headgasket was blown. eek.
I called Mike up at FIST and he advised me to find another 1g turbo head for my later in life goals. So my search for a head began.

I went to go look at a head I found on craigslist. Turned out to be ported and polished. SCORE! I got it for a steal. Now I'm trying to decide if I should go ahead and buy some forged rods and pistons or wait. I am going to be running the car on E85.

The lineup for my build so far includes or will include these items:

Ported head with kiggly beehive valve springs and retainers
Oil pressure gauge
Wideband
VRSF Fmic
Greddy rz bov
Aem true boost ebc
Avid motor mounts
Poly bushings all around
3" exhaust
JMFab bumper support
Bosch 1600cc injectors
4 bar map sensor with gm iat

Here are some pics of the current work. I'll update the thread as I find more pots of gold.

Blown Head Gasket.

I picked up a used 14b turbo a while back to use untill I get a bigger turbo later on. When we got the car it had a 13g on it. Took it to work with me and cleaned it up and sand blasted it. No more rust or gunk. It has no shaft play so hopefully it will work for a little while. Forgot to take before pics but here is the after.

For my fuel setup I will be running 1 aeromotive 340 fuel pump with -8 an lines and an aeromotive A1000fpr for the mean while then possibly switching to a dual pump setup later on. I will be running E85 with some bosch 1600cc injectors.

Fuel pump.

Started working on removing the abs system and brakelines. Also started cleaning up the engine bay. Will be starting the wire tuck sometime soon. Also mounting the battery in the trunk.

I say rock the stock block. If it's good, maybe do a balance shaft delete on it and call it a day. Get it back on the road! A stock block with a good tune will handle anything a 14b, 16g, 20g... can dish out.

Great start to a build you got a good list of parts :thumb:

So been messing around with the car a little more. Trying to get the harnesses out of the engine bay. Made a little more progress. Removed the driver side fender and sidskirts. Had to remove the driver side headlight bucket too so I can mess with the harness. Trying decide if I want to get rid of the sideskirts all together to save weight or not. Tackling the wire tuck with no diagrams is fun.LOL. I will have to start pulling apart the interior next so I can start messing with all the wires. Need to get both harnesses in the cab and remove the dash. I need to figure out what all I can remove since I am not keeping the a/c, abs and some other items. I want do delete all the wires to the source.

Pic of the fender removed.

I see your in Houston also. I am also thinking about a wire tuck and new connections to everything. 20 years of heat and diagnostics takes its toll on this stuff.

yea i would stick with the stock block as well for awhile. keep us updated on the project

I won't be keeping the bottom end stock afterall. The rings and piston are shot on cylinder #1. So I will be having the block decked and overbored for a nice new set of forged slugs. Built motot for a 14b turbo? Sure why not. LOL

Forged goodies aye. Might as well do it now while it needs to be reworked Keep up the work.

Just a random question, how much did the fuel pump run ya?

There is a fresh posting on some forged pistons that have cracked floating around here. Those pistons always need to heat up before you drive of and get busy with it. Something to think about.

I payed $130 for the pump brand new.

Playing around with the car some more. Started stripping chassis harness. Then started stripping the interior down getting ready to remove the dash. Removed the rear seats and all of the seat belts. Removed all of the rear plastics etc and also started removing useless metal brackets. Still striving for my race weight goal. Looking to pick up some race seats and 5 point harnesses to save some more weight.

Here is a pic of in process work. LOL

Finished removing the rest of the rear interior. Still need to remove a few thing. Also ditched the headliner and sound material. Trying to decide what to do with the spoiler. I think I'm going to get rid of the wrap around spoiler but I still want something back there. I just don't know what I should put there instead. Also finally got my front bumper. :D

Everybody likes pics.

Spent the night working on the car and got a lot accomplished. Brakes are off and I started painting them red for the fun of it. Axles are out, removed the exhaust. Got the motor dropped out and slid out from under the car. Lots of good stuff happening. Going to start taking the motor apart and get it taken over to the machine shop this week hopefully. The shell is super light now. haha. Planning up picking up a tubular front cross bar before it all goes back together.

Brakes and axles out.

Dropping the motor out from the bottom using a jack. Too much crap in the garage to be able to use the hoist.LOL

My nice and empty engine bay. I can start stripping and welding now. :)

What machine shop are you going to use? Houston engine and balance had my block bored and honed and back to me in 3 days. They have my crank right now. Jeff is a great guy too. Their prices are also very good. Nice work too.
Looks like you have been very busy. My garage is full too. Suv and a motorcycle in it now. And an engine stand. Gf is coping well with the clutter. Keep the pics coming!

Hey, everyone that stays in houston and thats working on their car, when complete with their car, we should all meet up. I rarely see eclipses where I live and should ride out weekends. FTW DSM!:D

That sounds cool. I am in the process of a engine rebuild before my dd dies. I just ordered an osterich and a wide band today. I want to learn on the old engine before I drop in the new one.
I would love to tackle a wire tuck, but I don't know if I will have time to do it...I do have to work for a living..and I was going to do an end clutch replacement and shift kit while the talon is down. I plan on a long weekend in late march or early April.

I use a shop called Mack's Machine shop. I've been going there for years. They have done a couple of 4g63's for me before. There is a DSM meet coming up on March 10 at FIST. I will be out there with my buddy and his Talon.

I havn't gotten much work done on the car the last week. I crashed my daily and have been working on getting one of my other cars running. I'm also parting out my daily and taking it apart and that is taking up some of my time.

Hopefully will get back to the car in the next couple weeks.

Just touched the car for the first time in over 2 years. Got it back down on the ground on all four tires for the first time in a long time. Might actually make some progress on the car this year. Pushing it outside to pressure wash the car inside and out. Everything is removed from it. Few change of plans for the car. Including a fuel cell and external pump setup. Also picked up a 90 fwd turbo eclipse last year.

Talon back on the ground.
