So this guy was asking about a front case, he offered $70.00 shipped. Which is alot less then I wanted, I wanted $75.00 alone for the case not shipped. But figured I would be nice.

He sends me the $70.00, paypal charged 2-3 bucks. I asked if he could send it me*the extra 3 bucks*, and he just gets all rude about it. So I refunded his money and asked to not do business again.

Paypal Charge So if you could send that pretty quick that would be great.

Thanks man I will ship it tomorrow as soon as I get that $2.33.

We agreed on $70 shipped not $72.33 shipped. I'm sure this is not your first time using PayPal and were well aware that you would be charged for receiving money. But none the less, I will send you the $2.33 since it seems to make or break the deal for you. PayPal is going to take a percentage of the $2.33 also, so please don't write me telling me that there was a charge of xxcents and you will ship when you receive it.
Forget it I'm refunding you.
Don't ask me for parts again thanks.
No it's not my first time using paypal? is it yours?
Never had someone be rude about it.
I asked nicely.

I now just offered this....

You know what bro. Sorry, I had a bad night. Kinda got pissed when I get on DSM tuners and you send me that message.

I will now sell that Front Case for $60.00 EXACTLY shipped.
To make up for hard feelings.

I apologize.

Up to you, offer is there.

You should have accounted for the paypal fees when you told him how much to send in the first place. Once he sent the money and it's short a couple bucks you should just let it go. Is 2.33$ so much money to you to lose the sale? Now you are trying to let it go for even cheaper. If you didnt mention anything about paypal fees then thats your fault.

We all have bad days, I think you did the right thing by offering it cheaper. My .02.

You should have accounted for the fees, I wouldn't say that you were out of bounds or anything though.

Yea that is true. I just got back into selling parts. So it kinda slipped my mind.
I will have to start putting.

Buyer must pay paypal fees in my ad. Done and done.
Or negotiate the fees with the sale. Like * I will pay the fees just pay $50 etc.*

I woke up this morning, and idk why I was even upset, its totally understandable to not want to go through the hassle of paying a mere 2.33.

I will correct this, so problems like this don't arise again.

After that because i felt bad, I offered to accept $60.00 exactly.

I think 2.33 is something merely trifle over the larger amount of money you would have received, but at least you extended the olive branch and offered something to make up for your overeaction to the situation. The buyer shouldnt have acted like an asshat

I dont care if it was 2.33 missing or .33 missing. He would have complained if he got part of the case. From my understanding is the agreement was 75 and he sent 70 and you weren't even complaining about the 5 dollars he owed you.

I'll chime in and say you were in the wrong here. We all have bad nights though, looks like just clouded judgement.

I always know there will be paypal fees and I always eat them, since usually they're not worth getting upset over.

Well I received 57.99 Today, and am not upset at all. I am glad we are both happy. I just learned my lesson to understand, to put MUST PAY PAYPAL FEES in the ads, or eat the fees myself. But I have already updated them so, this donesn't happen again.

As for the $75.00 I wanted 75, he offered 70 shipped, because I'm starting this business thing kinda, I decided to take the hit. I'm still not losing out on it, but not making as much as I hoped, but its ok, hopefully I can keep him as a customer and slowly make the $12 I lost or so.

This is quite possibly the stupidest phrase out there in all honesty.
That's what all the fat dumbshit americans say.
If an economics class told you that, you should ask for your money back.

+1:thumb: For example: If the customer is so smart, why the hell do they need to hire someone else to figure out what's wrong with their car.

Granted you have to always be polite and respectful to the customer, but you can't let them walk all over you either. That being said, $2.33 is not a reason to start an argument with a customer.

It goes both ways. I personally never sold anything but I have an extensive experience buying parts specifically from this board. Whenever I post a WTB add (in the correct category that is, aren't those WTB in the FS category annoying?) I always ask for the price shipped to my ZIP code and including any type of fees the seller may want to add. The same when I reply to an FS add, that is the first statement I always include. You would think it easy enough to understand...well think again. I learned not to send the money until I have an all inclusive total price agreed upon a detailed list of items being paid for. I then proceed and send the money making sure the same list is included on the payment details. Always pay as goods and never question the 3% fee, I don't understand all the aggravation for what ends up being in average like $1.03...this screens the scammers away (most of the time) and gives me some ground for paypal claims if that happens to be necessary. That ans always ask for pics (if the price justifies the effort on the seller side). just my .02.

That's only in theory. I have no problem calling out a customer if he/she is blatantly wrong. High school classes can't be trusted anyways!

Here's my take on this.

My listed pricing for anything I sell is considered to be lowest price I will accept, not including Paypal fees or anything like that. Many of the items are fairly high-dollar; I know what I have in the item, and if it's a turbo I've added only the cost of the rebuild parts and labor as well as ground shipping to anywhere in the lower 48 states. I'm not going to eat another $15-$20 coming off of my labor because someone wants to send Paypal.

Paypal is a convenience to the customer- I could give a shit how long it takes to get paid, as long as I get the funds. If the buyer wants to send a money order or cashier's check, that's fine- the amount in the ad is the price of the item. I'm not cutting $10 off the price so they can buy their cashier's check....I'm sure as hell not covering their Paypal fees.

However, on low-dollar items (under $100), I don't see the reason to raise a big stink about it...you're only set to lose $3 at the most, and if that's cutting into your profits to a serious level you should consider another line of business.

I set my prices knowing that paypal will take a cut.

Why make the fees a "surcharge" for the buyer?

Sure he's going to pay for them one way or another but no need to call it out and make it look like an added expense.

Unless the seller specifically states the buyer has to cover the fees, the selling price is generally understood to be the total amount due.

If the seller screws up and forgets to mention it, he/she should just quietly eat the charges.
