I have a 90 TSI and the car is not driving because of a clutch problem. When I first got the car it didnt really like first gear but it would go into first no grinding if I stomped the clutch pedal a couple times. Now it has got to the point that it doesnt like any gears. It will not disengage what so ever. I bleed the clutch numerous times with all new DOT 3 and nothing. I tried an extended slave rod and nothing. I bought an ACT 2600 clutch and will be installing it sometime this week. I am pretty new to the dsm world and so let me know what you think it could be. If you have any thoughts or ideas on what it could be please let me know. Also need to know what people mean when they talk about welding the pedal assembly and how you adjust the master.

maybe your master or slave cylinder is done. try replacing those when you put in your new clutch.

The seal in the slave cylinder itself could be bad, causing a drop in pressure over time, therefore disabling the other gears.

check both rubber gourmet. your master cylinder rubber gourmet is located inside the cabin by the pedals. you'll see a circular rubber gourmet, carefully take it off and if you see any fluid there it needs to be replaced.
the slave cylinder is pretty easy its a longer rubber gourmet, again if there's fluid on the rod it needs to be replaced.

Are you leaking fluid at all?

I would check around your master cylinder for any leaks because that would cause the loss of pressure and your engagement problem

Didnt find anything wrong with the master. It was completely dry. But the slave looks like it may be leaking. Going to replace that and hope for the best.

I would just replace both the master and slave if I were you. When one goes, the other tends to follow.

look for wet stuff like they say, if you car is old/dirty enough you might not see the slave failing, but its relatively cheap and easy to replace, check inside the cabin under the dash, drivers side, look for the master cyl leaking(probably isn't its in a cleaner environment) bleed till the fluid is CLEAR and CLEAN, don't just let a bubble out and call it good, if all leaks are gone, and bled properly and it still wont disengage, your disc has failed. sometimes the fibrous material from clutches will wad up between the disc and the flywheel and it wont disengage.
