Unfortunately, that's all we can do is keep voicing our concerns to our representatives. Our voices aren't as loud as the lobbyists, that's why we have to scream loud and in big numbers. I don't know that we'll win out over the corporations' big money, but writing letters and spreading the word to get others to follow suit is the best weapon we have. They're fighting for profits, we have to fight for balance and our right to not have them control the internet.

Not anymore. This bill is already dead, thanks to yesterdays blackout.

Who in Congress Supports SOPA and PIPA/PROTECT-IP? | SOPA Opera | ProPublica

If you live in Arizona, remember to NOT vote for John McCain. Despite having over a 90% disapproval rating, he is still for the bill. But that's because the music/media industry owns him. They got their hands so far in his pocket, that it made it's way to his mouth and they are using him as a puppet.

In 2008, they contributed a total of $2,800,000 to his campaign (which is public information) and only God knows how much they've given him in kick backs and side deals (which is not). This is a perfect test to see if a politicians is choosing his position by his constituents or by the people that give him money. McCain is no longer representing the people, but his own pockets and the corporations that fills them. VOTE HIM OUT!

The Government is gonna have to start worrying about their own country turning on them and being a threat now. I promise if US soldiers are cut off communication to their families when they are overseas fighting they are gonna drop their guns and say #### you.

I see your thought... but NEVER drop your gun.

Guns keep this country from absolute governmental tyranny. There's a reason for it being number 2 on the list.

It's insane that they would even think to do something like this. If they are so worried about infringement and piracy, ban money all together :p That way people make/create/develop and improve the world as a whole instead of stabbing itself in the back for personal gain thus avoiding progress all together. Granted, this is a pipe dream because the greedy ones are usually the ones with the most money, go figure. It will eventually happen in the future nevertheless, greed is one of our most horrible traits as a species. Although money has a purpose, it also has a very hard hitting detrimental effect on humans evolving; case and point here.

That being said, I'm completely against this blatant way of censoring freedom of speech and possibly deterring people from learning on their own via the internet. Definitely think there needs to be a change upstairs in the governments as this should have been a no brainer to them to go against considering most of their campaigns, publicity uses the media/internet to begin with. Personally, I couldn't live in a world without DSMtuners :)

Its to make money, because the government doesn't have its hand deep enough in social media to make a profit. If the bill doesn't pass i bet the "Man" will just tax the internet.LOL

America is just one big bipartisan mess. We got close to defaulting on our debt and you know what happened? The democrats and republicans argued about it, and they couldnt even agree on a solution, so they just decided to raise the debt ceiling. And now they want to make some ####in bill to spend more money we dont have. Why do we even have equal numbers of democrats and republicans in office? These are private political parties that were established in the 1800's.

Why arent these people taking care of our debt? Because theyd rather be passing bills to spend our tax money on things that make them money. Why are we even passing bills? Our country is continuing to dig itself deeper into debt and theyre worried about the internet.

Welcome to America.

Its official congress dropped SOPA and PIPA, damn its incredible what people can do when they band together on social networks, on the other side of the blade there of course is the dithering and rambling, but still, we win this one. So far 1-...well alot.:D

Sooo... where does democracy come into all of this when the ones who have all the pull also have all the money?
F-this, I'm going to live in the woods.
Yep, if you have enough money you can just buy a law that will help your business profit. If you don't have that much money you can just invest in a politician and/or some lobbyists. It's the American way.

I think they realized the country would revolt and they'd end up ####ing themselves for money.. I feel we as the people are more of a threat to the Government than all these countries overseas.

^ Only if the people are truly inconvenienced.

Most people I've observed just seem to roll over and take it.

The deciding factor is when the 1% of the 1% become agitated. They are highly experienced people. No, I'm not talking about wealth.

People should not be afraid of their government, government should be afraid of the people.

I mean I like OWS's message, but the people are so uneducated that are protesting. I feel a more formal protest/war will be happening in the upcoming years.

That's some bull stuff, guess this really is not a fee country. Next thing you know they will be telling us what we can and can't eat or drink.

they do...its already illegal to eat/drink and drive....

Congrats everyone on coming together on this. It seems that we are not out of the dark, CISPA is a new bill that would allow information sharing between the government and private business to eliminate intellectual property theft among other things. Alex Fitzpatrick writes "CISPA, introduced by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), is intended to allow private businesses and the government to share information about potential cybersecurity threats to prevent theft of intellectual property and bolster national security.
However, groups such as ACLU believe that CISPA's language is dangerously broad and would allow the government to spy on private emails, text messages and social media messages.
"H.R. 3523, the Cybersecurity Information Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA), promoted as a measure to counter cyber attacks, would allow the NSA to collect the internet records of people who are not suspected of doing anything wrong," says a petition hosted by the ACLU." Unlike with SOPA where we had social media websites like facebook threatening and some even going so far as to block their sites, this will have to be a more grassroots fight. For those interested here is a site with a pre-made letter to ones local government: https://secure.aclu.org/site/Advoca...tion&id=4229&s_subsrc=120413_cybersecurity_tw
