I am helping a friend sort out his 420a turbo problems and get his MS2 system up and running.

Little background on myself, I once had an AWD 1990 eclipse 4g63, bigger turbo, MS2 running E85 and all that fun stuff. My knowledge is mostly in the 4g63. The 420a engine is a new engine I haven't been introduced to yet.

I was introduced into this project at a weird time. I don't know if I would have done some of the same mods. It just feels like the parts were pieced together a little wrong but maybe some of the experienced people could give me advice on how to help this project.

Fuel:

It has a 255 walbro in tank, I pulled the hanger and to me it feels like the return line and the fuel out line are way too small. Do people upgrade them and at what flow? or what injector size can these support?

injectors - I was told that it had 700 injectors I am not used to these injectors because they are really skinny. How can I tell what they are rated for? and are they high impedence or low impedence? the last part I guess that I can measure the resistance... I think the 700 are going to get maxed out,

Fuel rail... I am used to having a fuel rail with an in and an out like on the 4g63.... I see only one in unless I am missing something... Is this what the high HP people use for fuel rails? when do I need to upgrade? can it handle 1150s?

FPR- aeromotive FPR was bought because it is a 1:1. I don't know what the stock one was. What is the best way to install this? My eclipse I had a line in and a return line but with one opening on the fuel rail I am kind of confused on how to install this.

Spark

At what HP to the coils give out? I know they aren't rated high. I am thinking I would like to use a 4g63 coil pack and use MS with added ignition drivers to run the coils. Good Idea bad idea?

Turbo

What can I say in that the picture will say it all. I think the turbo is a little big and I would like to use a 16g but this is what it came with. But it will be fun to see what this thing is capable of .

Has a big FMIC to support it and all the hard piping

I think it needs a bigger throttle body, is there an upgrade from the stock TB or is it not worth it

I don't think it will clear the hood...

Bottom end Forged internals so it should take the High Hp and has a lower compression ratio for the turbo.

Engine management MS2 wired up and will be used.

I am just making sure that this car is well sorted out for the person. Is there anything that I may have overlooked or don't know about these engine that I should?

I went over some of the previous posts but it doesn't seem like there are too many people at this level of hp yet on the 420a engines

Thanks for your help!

I guess I can get you started.

fuel
255 is a good pump you may want to do a rewire but not needed.

The injectors or usually marked in lbs on the side but you should get at least 16lbs of boost depend on your turbo and tune.

The fuel rail is a return-less setup on 97-99 and some 96. The fpr is in the back by the tank on passenger side.your going have to remove it. and block of the hole your going to leave in its place. an run a new fuel return line from your frp to tank. i use 4an from fpr to tank. The fuel rail should have a test port on one end. all you need is a valve stem remover to remove the inner stem and use the port as a return.

The 1:1 should suit your needs

spark
Ill let someone else handle this but unless u brake 375hp you'll have no problem. just get the proper plugs.

cant say what turbo that is sorry it says garrett, but i cant tell you much. Your going to need to do research on it.

Mid way through 96 the fuel rail lost the return line. Upgrade the feed, (you can) use the stock feed as the return.

I had stock coil/wires at 400 WHP. but if you want to upgrade it, the Sceamin' Demon is the coil that is the best. Other coils aren't really that much better then stock (including MSD)

That looks like a star manifold to me, which is a T3 flange, so keep that in mind. Mitsu flange = no go on all 420a turbo mani's unless it's custom made.

Yes you can upgrade the TB, but make sure to port match the intake mani. look for 60mm.

That turbo doesn't look like it will clear to me, and you're going to get a lot of lagg from that big. but it looks like a garret, so it might be a BB turbo? which would help with lagg at least.

if you have 700cc injectors, that is a lot for this engine, unless you plan on going e85.
i had an 8 injector setup (stock 19# and 60# secondaries) on a t04e 50 trim (44 lbs min flow rate) @ 26 psi and that was still plenty of room left in the fuel department.

Question:
What are your HP goals for this car?

Upgrade the feed, (you can) use the stock feed as the return.

That is a great idea! I know the return is just WAY too small it seems.

The fuel rail should have a test port on one end. all you need is a valve stem remover to remove the inner stem and use the port as a return.

Cool, I will do that then

I had stock coil/wires at 400 WHP. but if you want to upgrade it, the Sceamin' Demon is the coil that is the best. Other coils aren't really that much better then stock (including MSD)

That is also good to know. I am not going to mess with it until I get spark blowout then.

HP goals? Right now I am trying to get the project together and running. After that I will worry about HP goals with this turbo. I want to set it to 10 to start with and after that just keep stepping up in increments

This isn't my project, I am just helping someone else get this completed

Thanks for your help
