okay, so i have noticed that the check engine light will come on when the car's close to and in between 160F - 180F sometimes even 120F an up.
The light ONLY will come on when the temp is like previously mentioned and while i'am giving it gas and at 2000 - 2500 RPM's.

I got on ecmlink and went to the DTC tab and no codes show up :banghead: My question is how do i get this code to show up?

oh and the check engine light does not come on once it reaches 190F and up

Knock maybe?

well i figured it was the knock sensor but its just kind of annoying me that i can't figure it out. i'am also new to ecmlink so i don't know all the in's and out's of it.

I bought the car from BoxheadTim there were some things about the knock sensor and after reading other posts i came to the conclusion that its most likley the knock sensor is too tight or maybe too loose or it might be time for a new knock sensor.

The knock sensor turns on the check engine light after 5 degrees of knock while the knock event occurs. Post a log

ill have to run and get one i accidentally deleted the log a long time ago :ohdamn:

I got two logs

Cruising in 5th.
1st through 5th.

i notice the knock goes to 10 deg.

so can i just change the 5 deg to say 14 deg and will that stop the engine light from going on or will this hurt something?

The CEL isn't the problem, the knocking is. Fix the knock and the CEL will stop.
You could raise the setting but that would be like covering the light up with tape.

Since it doesn't happen once the engine is warmed up perhaps that's the simplest solution. Let it warm up.

First thing I would do is pull the knock sensor out and visually check it. Make sure all is well with it physically. Second, clean the threads put a dab of Locktite on it and put it back in hand tight. Once that is complete use a wrench to give it a nudge. Don't over tighten it as it will cause it to malfunction. I just went through a similar issue and was picking up lots of knock on start-up and at completely randum times. Caused my logs to be completely out of whack. I installed a new Beck Arnley knock sensor and made sure not to over torque it. Has not happened since (Knock on wood.). Good luck and keep us posted. :D

PS - I posted a write up here in the "Newb" section this morning on this exact issue.

i will check out your post, i might have to pull the knock sensor and put a plastic washer on it if re-installing it "correctly" doesn't fix it.
