Hi there
So I have heard 2 things about DSM's that im not sure if i can believe. any thoughts?
1. So I have heard the the 4g63t was the second best 4 cylinder engine ever built? True or false? Also, if this is true, then what is the best 4 cyl engine ever built?

2. awd DSM's apparently put 60% of there power to the front wheels and 40% to the back end. true or false?

Thanks!

Question 1: This is a matter of opinion, I believe it is nobody could persuade me otherwise.Just looking at the pure potential of the stock motor.now combine that with the aftermarket support that we dsmers have and its pretty much hands down the best 4banger out there. Anybody beg to differ?
Question 2: I have no clue....but definately would like to know also

IF the GOV't didn't get their sticky and stinky fingers in the auto industry, CHEV's Cosworth DOHC 2.0 VEGA motor would have been a massive stomper for that little car back in 1975. Little motor even gave the 350's the scare in performance due to a light 2100lb chassis that the VEGA was known for.

Cosworth designed that motor to crank out 185HP just being normally aspirated and on regular premimum fuel. But EPA knocked the wind out of it down to 110HP and on regular unleaded fuel.

More interesting in that link is the OP's AVATAR: Defiant's avatar with that maroon DSM 2G photoshopped in place of Defiant's white one.

The Evo FQ400 though it has not been released in the US has the highest specific output of any production engine per liter at 405hp thats 202.5hp per liter noone has been able to do that from factory

best? who knows... its definitely my favorite because of the massive enthusiast and aftermarket following.. the countless build possibilities

there are many out there that would never own one of these cars, but thats not because of the engine itself, more so because of everything that comes with it including the headaches...

The 4g is the best 4cyl block IMO, but our cylinder heads are very restrictive compared to many other 4 cyl engines. Overall it's a great motor, whether it's the best is a matter of opinion

You mean Ford and Cosworth

The reason no one else has a 202.5hp/liter engine out from the factory is that you have to service the FQ400 every time you get out of the driver's seat. I think the recommended dealership service interval on it is like 8,000 miles.

Considering most people either don't take their car to dealership, or other places that offer dealer service (NTB is considerably cheaper on a lot of the recommend dealer service interval stuff) or only take it in for the big ones 30k miles etc, the FQ400 is purely an enthusiasts car. Where as your average Porsche can very well be driven, even the RS versions.

Pretty sure he is talking about a Chevy Cosworth Vega

13bs have the highest hp/liter of any production motor by the way.

as far as best? definitely one of the best but thats all subjective. honda makes some great 4 cylinders that have great technology, fuel economy, reliability and can still make shit loads of power. you could argue lots of 4 cyls as the best but i think a large group could definitely agree a 4g63 in top 5 best of no particular order.

I read an article that listed the 4G63 as Japan's best 4 cylinder.....and that the only other 4 banger that might be in the same category is Toyota's 3S GTE.

While the full motor on the turbo application put out between 180-200, there are other 4 cylinders that are na and put that out.

It's a matter of opinion but a solid cast block puts it well up there for strength but it becomes very heavy.
