Hey guys Im buying a 1997 Gst tomorrow morning thats completely unmolested :). It has 134XXX miles on it and a rebuilt tranny with 20 miles on it. I was wondering what I should start upgrading on it first, or if anyone has a list of things I can do and what parts are best and could let me know that would be awesome and grately appreciated :hellyeah:

Click the "TECH" tab at the top under the DSMTUNERS banner. Once you click it select "Upgrade Paths".

That will get you going in the right direction.

Alright I went through that already I was just seeing if anyone had suggestions as to what they would recommend doing first. And I have a question about BOV's, what kind should I get for my car because Im lost when it comes to BOV's

HKS has a pretty stellar BOV. IMO I would go with a greddy RS or anHKS SSQ

Thanks dude I was looking at them earlier and was just like whaaaa haha. Im pretty stoked about getting it. I have a 99 gs spyder and I love it but I definetly want a turbo 5 speed and I just found this one and I went to look at it yesterday and gave him a down payment for it. My loan is going through tomorrow morning so im picking it up after work in the am. Im going to go look at it here a little bit the guys going to put it up on his lift at his shop. Is there anything I should look at closely?

Depending on your goals for the car a stock 1g bov can be had for very little money and solid performance.

As far as aftermarket BOV's go TIAL is pretty much king, but also the most expensive. HKS SSQV's are great as well and a little more affordable.

Focus on maintenance first, get the car up to par.

When looking at a BOV make sure you get one that can be recirculated as your car will run like shit if you vent it. Also, an aftermarket BOV is not necessary as 1g BOVs have held high boost numbers. So it's kind of a waste of money there that can be better used elsewhere.

After maintenance:
I would first get some gauges (Boost, Wideband) and a way to tune (DSMLink). But that's just my opinion.
After that, I would focus on upgrading your fuel system and throwing on a MBC.
Then after that, move up to a 16G or something around that area.

But that's just me.

RLA: Alright I was planning on doing that first anyways. The guy replaced the valve cover but wasnt sealed all the way and was leaking around one of the bolts but hes going to fix this himself instead of having his guys do it and hes also going to do a oil change for me too. When we were test driving it you could smell oil burning because he had replaced the valve cover and that so it was just burnoff. but when we opened the hood it was smoking a little bit because of the seal on the valve cover. which should all be fixed before I but it. Are there any areas I should look at for rust under the car?

If you're looking for a BOV just to try to get some sound out of it, you may be disappointed. In order to keep the car running correctly, the BOV/bypass valve has to be recirculated. Thats when a small hose connects the BOV to the intake so that no metered air is lost.

Venting to atmosphere is where you get the most sound, because there isn't anything muffling the BOV. You may be happy with the sound of a 1g BOV and a metal intake. Injen is a pretty good intake, and will net you a few HP.

Before you start modding the car though, make sure all of the proper maintenance is up to date. When I first started on this site, that was all I was reading was maintenance maintenance maintenance, but now I've learned thats the longevity of our cars. Or any car really.

Good luck!

WBO2 & DSMLink as first mods ? He'd been in so far over his head he wouldn't know what to do.

Boost gauge for sure first mod. After that you can go a number of ways depending on what your goals for the car are, and your mechanical ability.

sypher: Yeah I no im big on making sure everything mechanical wise is good to go before I start adding anything. Is anything else Ill get an aftermarket air intake just for not before I start on major upgrades. I have to get the strut towers replaced the right side has a pretty good amount of surface rust on it but not going through so that will probably be the first thing I get fixed

Eclipseowner: Im planning on having my mechanic install all of my upgrades he worked as a head mechanic at the big car lot here for mitsubishis he put them together so he knows everything there is to no about them. I just want to get a list made out of everything I want him to do after everything mechanical wise is good to go

That's just my opinion as I said. I would prefer to be learning the tuning first, that way I could correct any issues future modifications may cause. I know it's weird. But that's just what I think.

Forgot to mention getting an exhaust on it.

Personally I do everything on my car. most of the people take pride in getting there hands dirty or they are just to cheap or broke to pay someone to do it! If your dead set on paying someone to do easy work like Bov or intakes go for it but they realy don't take long to do and some or the easiest mods you can do on a dsm

What exactly are your goals for the car? From reading through the posts it doesn't appear that you've really had a chance to drive the car other then the test drive. If you do end up buying it, like it seems you intend to, I believe you should just drive it and see what you would like to get out of it. Take some time to learn the car figure out what needs to be addressed first then I would go with what rlacasse1 had mentioned earlier with the WB, boost gauges and DSMLink as these make a great foundation for things to come. I also feel it's best to upgrade in stages rather than just throwing a part on here and there since this will yield the best results. Example being get all your fueling in place as well as a way to tune and supporting gauges first before doing a turbo upgrade (again reference the tech section of the site). As usual this is just my opinion.

Yeah I plan on driving it stock for a while. Im going to be pretty broke after tomorrow. So Im going to start saving again, and start ordering parts here and there. but Ill ###### just start with a BOV, exhaust, and a intake.

The BOV is just a waste of money that could be better spent elsewhere at this point. If you are dead set on a new BOV then find a 1g BOV. They are cheap and GOOD.

1.Figure out what it needs for maintenance.
2.Figure out what your Goals are.
3.Figure out what you have for a Budget.
4.Plan for your Goals if budget isn't met.
5.Learn as much as you can going along while you are saving for a budget(If applicable to you)
6.Start
7.Don't Stop
8.Keep Going you'll get there
9.Almost there...?
10.Break your DSM yet?

Lol. Im getting ready to go get my new baby and get everything done here soon I hope. I hope it wont be down to me waiting on the guy to be able to go to the BMV to get the title switched and stuff. Ive been up since yesterday at 5 pm, and have only slept 3 hours since then.. Running on adrenalin and fumes LOL

Im so freakin excited to drive this baby. Itll be my first time driving a turbo :). Ugh this day just needs to go a little faster so I can bring it home. Ill post pics later

Since we're in the "what to do first section" LOL I'll ask what should I do first to my 95 GST? Only current mods are off my wrecked Gst which are: 3" apexi full exhaust no cat, ebaich lowering springs with camber kit (adjustable front spaced rear control arms.), and wallbro 255lph. I have a set of evo injectors 560cc but don't have enough umph with the t25 to support them. I have a greddy turbo timer I'll be putting on. Have temp gauge, boost, and air/fuel gauge to install as well. Whats a good WB02 to get? And dsm link is pretty much the way to go as far as tuning right? I don't know much about tuning right yet but my brother does the turbo chryslers and he is pretty good with tuning. I don't have to worry too much about maintenance really as I just completely rebuilt the engine and it only has about 2'000 miles on it. Besides the mods mentioned everything else is stock. I need/want a new brake setup and was thinking about maybe a gsx or evo brake conversion as gsx has dual pistons and evo well brembos LOL. Budget is pretty low at the moment. Also anyone know a way to identify what year evo engine I have? I bought one awhile back but from an engine core place. It was out of a wreck and the front brackets timing water pump some sensors on intake etc got broken but everything else was solid. He didn't know what kinda evo it came out off. I tried serial numbers and stuff and searched trying to figure out how to identify but no luck so far. It's just been sitting around and its almost like new on the internals anyone know how figure out exactly what year it is? The injectors were 560mdl which generally came on 7-9 so would that mean its a 7,8,or 9 evo engine??
edit: also anyone know a good fmic to get?

MJcanada, bit of a thread jack but.... what you do first to your car is up to you and your preference. Here are some of my opinions on some of your questions:

Wideband: Innovate LC-1
Tuning: Yes get DSMLink (ECMLink same thing)
Brakes: The best that you can afford to get and fit your wheel of choice
FMIC: First I would read about the differences between bar and plate vs. tube and fin then make a decision on which you would like and search for a good quality built piece.

As for identifying your engine I'm not sure but I would get the serial number and start by calling a Mitsubishi dealership and seeing if they can look it up.
