so im in a decision of picking up a 86 fiero se v6 dont know much about these if any of you have any insight good or bad about these feel free to share... so from what i remember about what i talked to the guy about it has 120k and exaust leak and need a new front wiring harness witch he said was for the ac/heat witch i dont care for really he said the car drive good with no issues havnt had the chance to look at it and i should receive pics tomorrow if any of you are interested in seeing it and also i never talked about a price but somebody said i could get it for 500.. but im also hearing hes asking a thousand....what are all of your opinions about these cars..... yes i know my grammar is messed up right now but im on some painkillers due to medical reasons

I know you can cram a Northstar V8 in the middle of them. And early ones liked to catch on fire.

That said, the later ones with the visually heavier bodies are all kinds of 80s awesome, and that is 100% fine with me.

They have a HUGE cult following it seems and i've seen some really made over ones that i just thought were pimp as hell and some that looked like trash. That being said i dont know how they handle and if at all it is impressive i wouldn't throw off the balance with a heavy V8, but rather a much better turbo 4 banger or small 6 cylinder. The guy in Kearny Ne, that i bought my driveline for my AWD swap from actually had one with a V6 and trans from a toyota camry in it he was goingto turbocharge but didn't know him that well and didn't talk about it too long as it was midnight and i had 3 hours to drive home.

But i know when i was younger i was impressed by them but i didn't know anything about them other than they were small and kinda cool with the GT or whateer the slick looking ones were denoted.. some base models look trashy and flimsy to start with though too

this isnt the gt its the se with the 2.5? or 2.8 v6 sadly auto ... and i found out hes asking 1500..... but i told him i was tryna sell my 90 camaro and he might trade for that.... all i know besides what i stated earlier is the cars lime green has a new alt water pump and thermostat and when he sends me pics tomorrow ill post them up since you all seem to like them... and im surpised nothing bad was said bout them LOL

and how can i fine out if all the recalls was done?

most likely im not dropping a v8 in it and if i end up doing that its not going to be for a while right now im just tryin to get a car good on gas and get me from point a to b while i try and find work

Im surprised nobody has mentioned the one at the shootout a few years back with a 4g63!

They do have a retarded cult following, and alot of kit cars are based of these. My buddy got his dads when he died and his dad had swapped a 350 in it (I know next to nothing about this swap) and that said these cars with a 350 in them are silly fun. Punch the throttle and you could make the hardest of men giggle. Not to mention if there is anything wrong with the interior you can get parts from the 500 plus S10's in your local bone yard.

I used to want to put a SBC in mine.. Then I realized everyone and their ####ing mom does that.. So, its not really all that cool to me anymore.. Then I wanted the 4g63, and once again I saw it a few times.. Lost interest.. So Im probably going to sell mine.. Or scrap it! Tell you what, handles AWESOME in the mud!! ;)

I always wanted to put a W-41 Quad 4 in one. Don't flame. GM making a 200hp n/t four cylinder in 1990 was a big deal. There were turbo prototypes and of course being GM they were never put into production.

I had an 88 GT with the big ass whale tail. Car handled like it was on rails. The guy I bought it from had put a Hypertech chip and a heavy clutch in it. In a straight line it would stay door to door with my buddy's 93 stock notchback. In the twisties it would make him look stupid. I would love to have another one and put the 3800sc swap in it.

The guy with 4G63 Fiero is one of my close friends and I wouldn't wish that swap on anyone :). This comming from one of those crazy Fiero and 4G63 cult people :).

Fieros are fun little cars, which handle "OK", but far from great...

They are also a PITA to work on! Simple things like brakes and suspension are OK, but anything to do with engine or tranny sucks.

Both original engines sucked, so GM engine swaps are very popular. SBCs and 3.8/4.3 V6s all require adapter plates/kits. Caddy's Northstar and 3.4 v6s are bolt on's.

If I was doing a swap, I would probably go with a Northstar. But sounds like he just wants to have some fun with one of those cars. Just make sure that engine/tranny/clutch (if it is a manual) are OK and go for it!

heres the pics i got... im still working on getting the money up for it but i got till tuesday till it gets listed for sale wish me luckkk

that's nice looking for an older car. I tell ya what would really be sweet is get the chevy/buick 3.8 and turbo charge it. A lot of grand national guys, being unable to find authentic GN blocks turned to pulling the 3.8's from the pontiac GTP grand am and other cars when they needed a fresh mill to build, so there's tons of them out there.

Add a nice size turbo (V6's will spool larger turbos WAY faster than our low exhaust energy 4g63's) so imagine a turbo you think is way too laggy on a DSM, and it's probably spooling at 3200 rpm on a nice 3.8 :D Some sort of stand alone management (MSnS on up to high dollar depending on the budget) and from there you have one hell of a powerplant, now you just need to order the worlds largest show horn to put it in LOL

they are a PITA to work on though, i helped on a clutch job once, ONCE! It would be nice if you had some way to liftthe body body right off the lower subframe having it only connected by one large plug (sorta mill-spec style) but how many of is have a lift in our home garages *sigh* Or better yet, if you could do a complete lift off fiberglass rear end (similar to the front ends on the import drag car builds, pull a few dezus fastners and have access to the entire engine and trans to work on them

I thought my trans job on mine was a bi***, only because it was my first time doing something so extensive. I was 16. Looking back now, it wasnt all that bad (knowing what the DSM has put me through) LOL. They do have an engine cradle though, you can pull the whole body off them. Unblot the cradle (4 bolts i believe) then use a cherry picker and lift the body up.

I do think it would be BAD ASS to do a twin 16g set up or something on a v6!! Holy shit! :thumb:

EDIT: Oh and OP, what an ugly green!! LOL But does look clean!

@crash..... if i do end up getting it my first thought was plastidip it black i dont need the attention this green car will bring me

Im diggin the hood! looks pretty good though from a distance. Guy around the corner from me used to have a red one and bought a kit made it look like an old school Ferrari. IDK if I would ever do that, but still pretty cool conversion to make it look very similar. For the money though AND it runs, I would pick it up.

I have an A/T 1986 Fiero SE 2M6. My Fiero is a very reliable car after I did all the maintenance work on it. It had 100000 miles on it when I bought it five years ago, and it was three different colors due to previous body work done to it because it was "T-boned" in the driver's door jam/rear wheel well. Since it drove and operated fine, I paid $1000 for it. I primered it, but I have not painted it because I don't mind the way it looks.

Some simple maintenance things to look over when checking it out would include making sure the gauges work properly, the cooling/radiator system works properly, and the brakes work properly. There are many other things, some already mentioned, yet these items being faulty could indicate serious problems due to its age.

These cars handle great, have great traction (especially with proper winter tires), and are quick enough to not feel scared to pull out on a highway ramp.

So, I would say that you should get it if it operates good, and the price is appropriate.

A good place to browse for parts, and to get information, is The Fiero Store (then buy the things cheaper elsewhere if able). This page shows some sensors (for the gauges) that should work properly.
