my 1g is pushing a little coolant now so its time to replace the head gasket. I was looking at the flatout gaskets but can't find where to buy them anywhere. does anyone know? also what other head gaskets should i look at. I am running right around 30lbs on a fp 18g with arp's. I plan on having the block resurfaced as well when i replace the head gasket. thank you, any help is greatly appreciated.

Mitsubishi Metal / MLS Head Gasket (DSM) - Modern Automotive Performance

The Mitsubishi stuff is usually pretty good. Since you plan on resurfacing the block do the head and put a MLS on there. Will probly be better since you are running higher boost on a decent size turbo. Gives you room to grow and re-assurance on a solid head gasket.

I personally am running a Composite gasket with ARP's and have seen boost spikes upto 28 P.S.I without failure or issues. To me I would rather have my head gasket blow than my internals.

Make sure both the head and block surface are at the proper RA# to use the MLS gasket. A composite gasket will hold up well with L19 studs if that's what you have.

As others have said RA is very important with any type of MLS gasket. Also don't forget a regular old FelPro composite has been pushed very far, tune will make or break the head gasket.

i honestly beat on the car a lot. and i am planning on going bigger turbo this year so i will need room to grow. the car is usually on 28lbs or higher btw. and i am just reusing my arp's.

Personally i think the Cometics suck. I'm running L19s/HKS stopper with no issues, but the mitsu MLS is a great choice also.

Ide go either mitsu mls or cometics Iv'e never had problems with either

I personally am partial to cosmetic gaskets. thats what ive run on both my dsms and ive never had an issue or problem with them. alot of people on here use them and i havent heard anything bad about them. My thought is if its proven on here, its usually a pretty safe bet

Cometic bleh

OEM composite with ARPS is a better choice for most people.

For those that need more, the high end Fel-Pro with A1's.

The reason you hear a lot of negative is that it doesn't have as much going for it as the OEM gasket and it seems most people don't have the proper mating surfaces to use a MLS gasket.

To the O.P it's really personal preference at this point. You can go the traditional composite gasket or the M.L.S just make sure you take your head and block to a reputable machine shop for that perfect surface.

Plain ARPs' and a felpro comosite gasket will be fine for those goals, mainly from nessecity i've run felpro composites and plain ARPs most ofmy car's life and it's held every bit of 30psi daily on both a 57 trim and now a PTE 6776 RS which is 750hp capable but i'm not in those boost ranges which need to be in the 40+psi range and needs to have at least L19's and a composite to get into the high 30's and above 40psi you better have an MLS from what i've been told (as well as L19's since normal ARP's can't handle much over 30psi - or more realistically over 625hp.. it's not so much psi that lifts heads but totalt amount of air being combusted in the chamber)

Gotta remember combustion chamber pressures are in the thousands on only 10psi, so there's nothing a boost level of 30psi it's self (even 50psi) can do to hurt the head, it's just when you're cramming in enough air to get into the 650+ range that cylinder pressures are WAY HIGH and need a better bolt and gasket

Personally , if I would run over 30+ lbs I would o-ring the head and run a composite OEM gasket.
