Ok guys I'm looking for some input as to which route i should take in the dsm part of my life. Right now i have a 1997 GST which i adore. This thing has me hooked on dsm's for life. However there are some things i don't like about the car. One is the amount of wheel bounce i get when trying to accelerate from a stop. The other is the amount of rust throughout the body. With that in mind here's what im thinking.
I'm planning on saving at least 2-3k to put into my car, however, im not sure if i should put it into the GST. Would it make any sense to sell this GST, and use the 2-3k that im saving to put towards a rust free GSX? That would get rid of both of my problems. Or would it be more sensible to go for the LSD in the GST and possibly "frame swap" some of the rusty parts on my GST? I do already have some money into the GST that i know i wouldnt get back if i sold it so i really am torn between the decision. HELP.

you can get a nice awd shell and drop in your motor and your good to go. you can find a decent rust free shell for anywhere between 800 and 1500.then u can take the money you saved and put on some nice mods
:hellyeah:

I have a 97 Gs-t also with a decent amount of rust underneath. Definitely swap it out for a GSX!!!

If it was solid I would say AWD swap it, but it's not worth it at all of you have a rotted shell. Get rid of it and buy a southern car.

Why so much GST hate? LOL I have had my share of both at this point.

Pro's and con's to each.

FWIW, at least for my purposes the taller gearing, weight advantage, less parasitic drivetrain loss and less to break are what pushed me to a GST again.

LSD, decent tires, solid motor mounts and front subframe/crossmember bushings will take care of that nasty wheelhop. This is ofcourse ASSuming your suspension isn't shot.

depends on how much importance you want to put on awd vs mods i love my gst and shooting for 400whp with my winter build but my gst has no rust anywhere on the car. in my opinion if you want to mod alot in the future 10K plus later find a clean gsx you will thank yourself later and wont have to do a awd swap that im thinking about :(

Thanks you guys, thats what i figured. Is it really possible just to drop the engine of the gst into an awd shell? Will it match up for the most part or will it be hard to do?

simple for the most part. i think the only thing that will hold you up is the number of teeth on the spline from the trans, but im a 8x 1g owner, im not sure on 2gs and the splines , besides that its a cake walk compared to getting all the parts you would need to convert yours, you will end up buying a whole car to strip anyway if you tried the conversion.

Usually I would say AWD swap it, but since you've got rust issues, just buy a GSX. Pull aftermarket parts from the GST and put into GSX. Sell stock GST.
