Hey everybody, i just got into the dsm game and so i decided to share the beginning of me and my baby. So ive always been into tuner cars ever since i was young. Always on craigslist since i was 13 just looking for potential cars to buy.My plan was to buy a car and build it up until i could drive, which is 17 here in NJ. I love all tuners, the supra being my favorite. My budget was low since i was buying my own car so i knew my limits. Ive had a few close calls but no luck yet. Now i was 15 this past spring, just on craigslist as usual. Then i saw one eclipse gsx that i just fell inlove with. Yes, it looked like it came straight out of fast and furious, but im a kid, i like that stuff:p but it was listed for 6000, which i knew i couldnt do. I never forgot about that car though. Then summer came along, still no car. But then, i saw the same exact eclipse. Only it was 3500!

i was in shock, immediatly making phone calls, emails etc. I asked my father about it and got his approval. Now, I do know a thing or two about cars. Loved them all my life, got ASE certified at 15, so i knew taking on someone elses project was risky. Especially a car THIS modified. We went to go see the car. As soon as i saw it i fell inlove, which i know is usually a mistake. Looks like it had been sitting for awhile, needed to be jumped to be started and it had a bad oil leak. So he jumpstarted the car, after a few cranks it turned over. It was a pain to start because it had a cam, has to be big for how choppy the car runs, figure 272's. Owners said had blueprint engine rebuild and trans rebuild. Under the carbon fiber hood from what i could see was msd ignition, AEM fuel rail, intercooler, hks ssq bov, stock t-25, injen intake. Not bad. I got inside the car. 3 cobalt gauges along the pillar, big tach on the dash, AVC-R boost controller, apexi turbo timer, sparco steering wheel, sparco racing seatbelts, pioneer headunit. Now onto the outside of the car. Car was originally red( u can tell from the engine bay -__- ) but was painted a deep blue. Had a full body kit(fiberglass) with a big racing spoiler on the back. Sitting on 18" konig racing black rims, looked to be lowered an inch or so. Looks to be like a 5" exhaust out the back (HUGE)

So that was the car. I had to make a decision, was this car worth all the potential headaches it could come with? I took it. 3500 and it was mine. My dad brought it home the next day, except along the drive home we had to put a quart and a half of oil, because the leak was so terrible. So we finally put it into the garage. I had a long way ahead of me. One thing that bugged me out was stamped under the hood, it says "SUPRA" dont ask me, i have no idea. But that gave me the idea that this car was ment to be mine.

First things first, the oil leak. I brought it to my schools auto shop that week, put the car up. If it was loosing that much oil, first thing i went to was oil pan. I thought the gasket, but it turned out that the bolts were hand tight -__- so that fixed the leak problem. Next, this car had huge electrical problems. The clifford alarm system was wired horrifically. The entire car was, the person mustve had no idea what they were doing. So over the next few weeks out came all the gauges, alarm system, neons etc. The only things i kept were the headunit, avcr and turbo timer. But the wiring is still a disaster. Loose wires everywhere. Also, i now found out that my car has a parasitic draw of .5 amps, more to add to the list. -__- so thats where i am right now, any suggestions or info u guys could give me would be great! If you wanna see the car i have a couple pics in my gallery, hopefully going to get more soon.

definitely should of picked a different car (one that wasnt worked on by multiple hack jobs)

a full body kit + wing should of been the first of many red flags to STAY AWAY

at least it sounds like its going to turn you into a mechanic.. good luck

Welcome and nice job on the save, atleast you're a mechanic so you have a little know how. Hopefully you already have this site bookedmarked Visual Frequently Answered Questions - Home Page
Remember maintenance before mods. Take care of her and hopefully by the time you can drive her she will be ready to go.

just gotta say u def got your hands full but the end result will be worth it. the car has got alot of money into it already besides all the headaches. if you can put the wrenchtime it im sure it will be mean on the streets! on a side note, your 16 still young so dont let this car be the end of you

-_- You got an ASE certification at 15 ? In what ?

Well i got a baby ASE certification which was maintnence and inspection, I also got certified in brakes and soon im going for engine performance. Relax, i just said tht as in i know a thing or two, not claiming to be a master technician..

Haha thanks. I knwo i have ALOT to do. But i like the challenge. And your right, the more i dig into this car the more and more parts i find in it, its ridiculous! All she needs is alot of love.

Bookmarked now:D haha thanks alot! & yeah, as much as mods are fun, i really got to pay attention to the maintenance on this one. Thanks for the advice!

That's not even remotely believable.

Whats not believable?

16 yrs old..bet the insurance on that thing is high being listed performance vehicle due to the turbo...unless your father has it in is name and gave you permission to drive it.

16yrs old ... learn to have a light foot and don't attract attention from the "you know whos". New a 16 yr old that had a Mits 3000GT twin turbo V6 .. didn't take daddy long to sell that vehicle since the boy couldn't control himself.

good luck

^^^ in between the ages of 16 and 18 I got 7 speeding tickets, all being over 30mph and arrested(not convicted) of drag racing. Eclipses are a big ball of trouble for teen males with a lead foot Haha. So don't drag race its illegal and dangerous! ( on the streets) I give u props bro I wish I would know as much as you when I was 16. Good luck on it and I hope she turns out like a beast.

wow thats some story LOL & yeah, gonna get alot of challenges im sure... people try to race us when my dads driving:D & thanks alot bro means alot.

Well, I see people hitting kind of hard on what is already known. Teens have an issue with speed and horrible driving LOL. Not everyone is the same. I hope you enjoy the project even if it turns out to much to handle. Remember there are better dsm out there to work on and don't let that one ruin the rep. Be safe and respectful and ignore the haters about ASE this and young that. Everyone was 16 at one point! Goodluck!

You can actually learn more from fixing someone elses abortion. :D Not only do you learn how to do something.... you learn what not to do. Its also more challenging sometimes. Cookie cutter cars get boring sometimes.

When you say you pulled out all the gauges, did you reinstall any of them at all? You kinda need an aftermarket boost gauge since the factory one in the dash is inaccurate. And an oil pressure gauge would be useful as well, and maybe an EGT one as well.

Not all gauges are bad, just installing a dinner plate sized tach, and a boost gauge on a NA engine. Otherwise, You seem to be on the right track.

Just remember!

As of the moment, i pulled everything electrical. I was planning on keeping some gauges in for driving needs but there was no way. Nests and nests of wire from the alarm system, gauges, indiglow gauges, tachometer, neons, etc. under there that i had to take everything out. all 3 gauges ( oil pressure, boost and wideband) were on the pillar and all were saudered together so i really had no choice of only taking one out. Plus none were illuminated so he didnt connect some wires. Still working on getting out the apexi turbo timer because the connections are bad on that too. The avcr im pretty sure shows inaccurate rpms aswell. But im afraid to go near the ECU =X plus i dont want to mess up any tuning or something like tht by ripping stuff out. So i have alot to do ahead of me LOL thanks for all the info!
