I'll agree with what's mentioned above, the 1g BOV was the cheapest and best first upgrade (since you need a better BOV to up the boost). But as anyone will tell you, maintenance is your best protection for your investment.

What he said! If you were to invest in one mod and not touch the car for a long time after that, you could still make more power on DSMlink than any other single mod. A wideband would only help you more in this case!

walbro 255 FP, fic injectors, dsmlink/afc, pte 6262, ebay tubular exhaust manifold and 3" turboback, and run speed density. youll be in the 12s

I have seen some of the worst responses. Most of the things people recommended are not good bang for your buck parts by themselves. A 16g is out of the efficiency of the fuel system. A Smic is perfectly fine for boost in the teens. A 1g bov is not going to increase horsepower. And ecmlink is not going to be the best bang for your buck as a first mod.

To the op. The best cheapest quickest way to get horsepower out of your small turbo is to up the psi with a manual boost controller and a boost guage. This step is ~100 bucks.
After that you need almost a whole nother stage upgrade. For 16-20 psi you need at least an upgraded fuel system (650 injs and a 190 walbro) and a way to tune. Not to mention getting air in and out of the system faster with an air intake and exhaust. Your 2g bov will start to leak so you need at least a 1g bov. 19-20 Psi will require at least a new 14b which will mean you need to feed oil from the head and not the stock oil filter housing. You will also need a wideband if you plan to go this high. A fmic will be in order to keep your air temperature down. You will soon need arp head studs to keep your head from lifting off the block. Then while your doing your studs might as well do timing / headgaskets/ lifters etc.
And this doesnt include stuff breaking from power or just age.
THe way I see it.
16Psi is cheap and easy
17-18 psi Starts to get expensive
19-24 Will take it up into the thousands $
25+ You know your shit by now.
