Is it just me or more 2Gs getting to be worth more money? 1Gs seem to be gettign a better price for a clean car also. It seems to be a good thing our cars are fetching somthing decent for once. :)

Maybe its just me but it does seem the cars can be sold for a higher price now;)

This isnt really a question, this is more of a statement, this isnt the area to post this, try the lounge. But yes our cars are fetching a higher price, too many people crashing them and making less and less left, so naturally the price will increase.

Im sorry can this be moved to the louge? I wasnt to sure were to put it in, I thought it would be good in here since new people are buying these cars and come in here first.

yes because a clean dsm is hard to come by. They dont blue book worth a damn though.

2g prices are actually starting to go down over here but you still cant find a nice 95 gsx for less than 5k. Its the 1g prices that are crazy! I cant find any now that arnt a pos for less than 3k. I bought my tsi for 700 and it ran fine, it just needed a ps pump.

Yea i paid like 3500 for a super clean 1g, then got in an accident and they gave me 1500 for it cause thats all it bluebooked for. What a rape job. You live, You learn.

damn right they dont blue book.. i hit a deer the other night, screwed up the hood, headlights the corners, core support and my fans and my full coverage borderlined totaled it. luckly i found a parts car for cheap

dsms are amazing cars, not too many cars can keep up, i love my 1g i love the cockpit feel to the interior. now finding a dsm that hasnt been drivin to hell thats hard to find

Cars are still out there dirt cheap, you just need to know where to look or really do some hunting around. The internet is only one place and usually anything you find on the internet has its price influenced by the internet. The good thing about online is you can always find what you are looking for, bad part is you dont find as many deals. Before the internet my friends and I wanted to find a cool car... we took a road trip 1000 miles or so. Also just because you see prices rising on a certain car, does not mean they are actually selling. :)

I would DEFINITELY say that's the case with my 2g. I could probably sell it crankwalked as it sits right now with spares for well over $9k because everbody knows what it's made of inside-&-out. I'm in it for the long haul, though. I'm never selling this thing.

They won't be worth anything substantial for at least another decade. When the generation from its release becomes retired, that's usually when the market peaks. Once that generation dies off, the price comes down to something more realistic. The only thing that may affect my estimate is that people will have to be working longer before retiring... so it may take a bit longer for any DSM to get there. They made 864,000 2g's.

Wow... brought a post from 5 years ago back to life.

I found a 1g tsi with a dead engine for $150, bought my 98 tsi awd for $2k. A custom of mine bought 4 1g turbo awd for a total of $1k. 3 mtx, 1 atx.

They can be found. Just hard to find some days.

When I started looking, the majority of the cars were well over blue book, then again most all of them were modded in some way shape or form and most had some "small" things that needed fixed. Some were just shot out and they were still asking as much.

Within a couple of weeks on Craigslist, I found a 99 GS with 75000 miles for 2400. By the time I called the guy it was gone. About a week after that I found the one I bought, its a 99 one owner with 145,000 miles. I paid just under 2K for it. I look from time to time but it is getting harder to find an unmolested one for a reasonable price.

Of course what someone is asking for and what they will actually get are two different things.

unmolested is the hard part ive never seen a awd dsm unmolested. prob with my car its the oldest the 90 which you cant even blue book. finding a parts car after i wrecked it was a bit of a challenge. only 90 and 91 had flip up headlights and it had to be a turbo car for the core support

I feel your pain. I have a 90 tsi awd and paid decent money for it but, it is in decent shape and has not been molested too bad. I have had it for almost 2 years and running well. The problem with the 90s is, they have a unique computer, for the most part, different shifter, and little odds and ends that are not compatible with 91s. Since 92 does not have flip lights, that is, yet, another difference and so are the oil coolers. Reminds me of my 95 neon...almost nothing is compatible with it from 96 on....even the plate has to be notched to accept 96 and up bearings....You can make things 'work' but, they just do not interchange as easily as other years do.

All of the cars I have seen people get so cheap fit the part. They are broken and or look like sh*t.

Its funny seeing a post above from someone who also lives here in Northern CA where it was said,

"2g prices are dropping but clean 1Gs are expensive"

Oddly enough that trend has continued. Unless its a 2Gb Eclipse they are all priced around the same as the 1Gs. Clean 1Gs fetch a premium.

Oddly enough we have some of the cheapest Galant VR4 prices regardless of condition but GL finding a colt, ironically, when you do its dirt cheap. When I think about it we have some insane Star-quest guys who over value their cars and never sell em around these parts. I wouldn't mind hoping into one of those one day just to say I did it but at the prices these guys want, it'll never happen.

I got one and everything works, ALL STOCK TROLLLLOLL

Well in Chicago prices are ridiculous. i flew out to arizona to get mine paid 5700 from a member on here and it was worth every penny.:thumb: Out here a car with similar mods and miles would be about 8k.

i paid 1100 for a 97 in really good condition for the age. had rod knock. had everything possible done to the engine and head. brand new everything w forged internals. shit, im looking at over 12 k after everything is done. im hiring the work out tho so thats making it cost way more. we buy these cars ### we love dsms, the resale isnt something u want to think about. its going to be a loss if u built ## car. but that goes for any car

I've never lost a dime and usually turn a profit. I also do my own work and frequent the FS section on multiple boards on an excessively regular basis.

Jus sayin. If you do it yourself and shop smart, you wont be out of pocket or at a loss when it is all said and done.

i completely agree tsimage, ive got more money and less patience and free time. im fully aware that if i did this work myself and saved receipts i very well could flip the car for a profit. i know if i found one in flawless condition making 400hp safely and built right with no miles id gladly pay quite a bit for it. i used to do all the work myself on all my cars, ive lost interest in doing it now. ah well, i never plan on selling my dsm. ill keep it til im old. i love these cars

Sadly, cheap dsm's were what kept me coming back. But id give up a ball for some of my older cars, which I sold cause I could make money. Other end of the spectrum, I have had shit ones that I sold for a loss, just to rid of them.

I'll find one clean black 1gb auto someday, will be the last dsm I will ever own. Id say theyre cheap compared to a unmolested 240sx. 200k on a daily driven 240, as long as its clean, and the person will want 4k for a stock car. I could buy 4 1g's for that price.

i would absolutely love to have my 91 back. it was a stickshift 1.8l, so it was one of the rarest out there. i did a nationwide search a while back and came up with nothing

You wont buy 4 clean running 1gs like the 240 you described...

So its irrelevant. To get a dsm in equal condition I have found prices are quite similar. When it comes to modded vehicles modded DSMs fetch quite a bit more than a 240 as well.

For the older cars, you have to start going by NADA values. The 1g's are almost classic cars now. Hard to believe that!!

1990 Eagle Talon TSI 2 Door Coupe Turbo AWD Prices, Values & Specs - NADAguides

Well thats good news :D

I thought people were finally realizing the potential and classic styling that made me love 1g's.

Just recently i had some people ask me why i wasnt driving my car. I said because of the snow and salt, then they were really confused LOL. They're like isnt it awd??? So i told them that im trying to take care of it. Thats when they say "well not like its a classic or anything". So now i have something on them haha. Well, almost...
