Mike, I was wondering how long it would take you to find this thread.

Swarm, very nice collection! I've been researching what it takes to get a suppressor in Michigan, and apparently, it just got a lot easier recently. I'm going to be getting a Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 (.22cal AR-trainer) soon, and plan on eventually fitting a suppressor on it. Hopefully I get one that can transfer to other popular AR calibers for when I can afford a "real" AR.

45 gr VARGET powder, 175 gr Sierra MatchKing bullet put into a Lapua case. Works like a champ out to 1K yards.

I'd like to switch to a .284 due to it's superior ability to deal with wind but I will need to save up a few grand to get the components and have it assembled. Such is life..

That La Rue shoots .67 MOA groups. Ridiculous.

i also shoot 1k competitions with both a Garand in 30-06 and a savage 40x bench rest rifle.

for hand loading neck down some lake city 30-06 brass, you can load it hotter and get better long range performance and case life out of it.



if you wanna give it a try let me know ill send you some brass in 30-06


I would switch to a .338 lapua before a .284 though. .338 is proven to be the most stable at 1k yards or all the .400 and under calibers. personally though i am looking to step up to a barrett m107a1 in .416 for long range competition but they start at 12k

Thanks for the tip regarding the .30-06 brass. I'll definitely have to look into that..

As for the .338 Lapua, the only thing that keeps me from wanting to switch to that caliber is the inherent cost of the reloading components. If I build something, I have to be able to afford to feed it!

Even more so with a Barrett! Expensive as Hell up front, expensive to feed!

Getting a suppressor in any state, is about the same. So long as the state allows it, you are best to register a LLC/Living Trust, and buy the suppressor via the LLC. If you need help with this, I can help set up your company.

As for getting a M&P 22: Shoot one a lot first, or be willing to sell it if you don't like it. I didn't like mine. Check out Ruger SR-22, or any 10/22 variant, or the HK 416 .22

As for .22 suppressor: SilencerCO Sparrow22 is the best.
And an ending warning:

Yes, using a .223 suppressor on the .22 WILL work. BUT - .22's are VERY dirty rounds, and you will foul up your suppressor with lead deposits. It's really not a good idea, unless you are in an emergency to share your .223 can with a .22.

Reliability, accuracy, and easy to find parts, are pretty much what I go after. Just happens to be more tactical weapons.

From the reviews I've read and the videos (nutnfancy on Youtube has a 50 minute review of it) I've seen, it seems to be a pretty reliable platform for a .22 tactical rifle. While I haven't shot it yet, I've held a few of them and they seem to fit me well enough. The MOE version is the one I'm looking at. I also saw an HK 416 .22 for the first time yesterday. I might have to do some more research on that. I didn't play with it for very long.

If it's fairly easy to purchase new suppressors under the LLC/trust, then that's what I'll do, though I had thought about getting a suppressor that can be taken down and cleaned, unless those are not preferable to ones that are non-serviceable. I'm still doing research.

I think so. The other way to do it in Michigan is to have a "Chief Law Enforcement Officer" sign off on it, basically giving you permission to have one. Although I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem for me to do that, I would hate to have to explain why I want one and take a chance on the LEO not permitting it. But I want to be able to shoot without pissing off neighbors, not worry so much about my hearing which is already bad enough as it is, and the guilty pleasure of having a bad-ass suppressed weapon. If I can just do the LLC/trust thing and just add on suppressors by simply buying a new tax stamp and can, then I'll get one for my pistol as well, and any other toys I might pick up in the future. I have a growing list.

Its a federal tax stamp so you have to pay that in any state that you can get a suppressor

picked up a Springfield XD .45 acp the other day. Put about 100 rounds through it and I like it so far.

xd's are nice.

I have an XD .45 myself. Great pistol, I've put close to 5k rounds through it with no failures/issues of any kind.

Dropped in and tweaked a Springer Precision trigger kit for it, trigger pull is about 1/4" and very, very smooth.
