All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

thanks about to check them now will report back thanks for the fast response times guys:hellyeah:

well the upper timing marks line up but i cant see the lower one easily. tho i can not turn the motor over by hand with a 1/2 ratchet on the crank pulley it is smooth for about 1/2 of a turn then solid ...smacking the valves?

Doesn't sound good. You are gonna have to remove the timing cover on the motor to get a visual on the lower end of the timing belt. Sounds like you are in need of a tear down to find out what happened. 15 P.S.I is super low even for being cold. Hope your timing belt just slipped and you just have to re build your head. Good luck

well i did it this way took out the head bolts and tryed to turn it over by hand again and watched the head move up and down WTF (what makes me mad was i planed on doing the timing belt this week) so its the timing are the pistons normally save able ? it was cranked over but never started. heads almost off ill post back when i have it off.

You have a good chance of bent valves and cracked guides.....

Depending at what RPM the belt gave out.

It is not uncommon when the valves bend to have the ring lands pinch the rings.

If this is the case, you will want to drop the oil pan, and pop the pistons ouy, and check that the rigs spin freely in the lands.

well id say it gave out definatlly under 3k but realistically 1500-2000rpm is what the rpms were before it cut out and yes the head was bolted down for a compression test...:ohdamn:

Post pics of the bottom of the head once you have it off, also the tops of the pistons

well heres the pistons you can tell they touched but barley its minor scuffs in the valve cuts on the pistons.I will get a picture of the head soon but that also looks barley touched nothing catastrophic.

Pour some water or deisel in the ports on the head. If the valves are bent, the liquid will leak out. Stock pistons are pretty tough so it's hard to tell from looking at them if the valves are bent.

as for said above i did put some water in the exhaust ports and it didn't leak out but it does bubble if i use the air gun to blow around the valve seat

another question timing belt , head gasket, head bolts, i hear auto store brand like duralast timing belts are a bad idea? what about felpro head gaskets and i might up for apr head studs or just get the felpro stock studs again any input is appreciated

Ok I just did the 6 bolt swap alot sooner than I wanted. It was supose to be my winter build but I ended up have to do it in 2 days. Went to crank it up and start it and it wont start. I have spark and fuel. I know timing is right. I havent added coolant yet and there is no front o2 and map isnt tapped into the brake booster. I also dont have a lower IC pipe hooked up due to having a different turbo. Are those things causing my no start?

I havant updated my profile yet but i first had a injector in cylinder 2 malfunction.....then had a evap pressure something go off as well. I reset the dts and both didnt come back.

I did set it to inverted cas.....i also swaped plug wires around a few ways......and still it wont fire up. I dont even get a backfire or anything...... it just cranks and cranks. I still need to see if the injectors are firing but i would assume link would tell me if they wernt

please any help or suggestions would be great. what am I over looking or not looking at

read that didnt help. I actully forgot to plug in the injector resistor pack. Its starts now but dies in a few seconds. Revs up to about 1500 then dies

Ohh also if I do anything with the throttle it dies quicker...I did swap out the tps from the 2g....maybe thats off and not letting it idle

What do you have the firing order set to now? Are you sure you installed the 1g CAS correctly? You can also check what your TPS is reading in link, to see if its even reading at all.

yeah its reading the tps. firing order i think i have at 2143 starting from cylinder 1. I never removed the cas so it should be correct. I have a few other things ima try i got it to rev very roughly but still dies. if I can get it to idle it idles at like 300 rps and is loopy as hell. whenit idles n i tough the throttle it will die. I might have a maf issue as awell but i dont have a spare one lying around to check.

If it helps. when i got the car it didnt hold a idle either. but i could give it throttle andrev the piss out of it. now i cant rev ot

The car will idle with out the tsp, your cas is hooked up correctly if it fires. Sounds like it might be mis adjusted though. Check your ignition timing.

Also double check your firing order that didnt sound right, but I could be wrong on that. Have you set your base idle?

Base idle i set to 900. yez i know i need to finish puttin it completly together but i lack a few parts to do so.

I guess I looked over a few things in your post. Your definately going to want to get that lower intercooler pipe on. Its not really going to want to idle with it off and that would explain why it dies/runs bad upon reving.

i am having the same exact issue. i spray a little starting fluid and it fires right up. also i am getting horrible gas mileage like 10 mpg. i replaced the fuelmpump and still didnt change anything. maybe injectors, cas, fpr? ill keep checking here to see if anyone finds a solutuon to there problem

Did you ever figure it out? I have the same basic issue too. All the relays turn on, MPI, Anti-theft, and you can hear the starter click. But will not crank. I re-did the power and ground wires to it (4ga), nothing. Also I just swapped the starter out with another one, but same exact thing...

Ok i got the car together now bit it still wont hold a idle. i can now rev the piss out of it thouh. but it doensnt stay idling. it will idle for roughtly 30 seconds then die. im gonna replace the fuel filter and see if that helps. only other issue i think can cause this is the maf right
