I recently got a 96 tsi awd and i can not get it to run correct at all. It starts up and idles fine however it does not rev past 4500 rpm. When i try to drive it down the road it has zero power it can bearly make it up to 40 mph and doesnt rev out at all. It had one cel which was an o2 sensor which would not cause this problem at all. I was wondering what could cause this car to go into what seems like a limp mode?

Geez y'all. Look man I understand if this question has been asked a million times. But really we are new to this game and that's his we learn by asking questions I forget that half of you popped out of your moms knowing about cars but some have not. And getting all butthurt because someone is asking for help is wrong and I have done alot of research on here and have seen alot of this "This is getting old" crap they want to know and as being more experianced members of this forums it is your duty to step up and help and not be Di%&& about it. As a combat medic in the army I would hate to throw you guts into the combat zone not knowing shi$ and crying.you guys have the experiance and the know how for people who love these cars and CANNOT go into a shop and dump thousands of dollars on something we don't even understand.

Just my .2

Shiny side up my friend. I had tge same problem and google is your friend, just 3x check before you post to keep the wolves away.

Thanks

You answered your own question with "google." Look up similar symptoms from other dsm'ers and how they fixed it.

You know the question been asked 9023947934875 times before? Then obviously it's been answered/resolved at least once.

Boost leak test is where I would start in combat.

Lol because all combat is the same.

So what if it has? Just answer and get on with your life. Up your" rep power " anyways

Can you not be such an arse in the newbie forums....

Way to make new guys feel welcome.

I had a very similar problem, although it was with a first gen, it turned out to have a bad mass air flow sensor. Also the knock sensor was bad, I changed both at the same time and it corrected the problem so I'm unsure of what the source of the problem was but know for a fact that they were both no good. Sometimes if a knock sensor is bad it will cause the car to pull timing and feel like the timing is off, if the mas air flow sensor is bad, the car will have no power too.

@ DSMdesir Your Question could use some clarification.

Is your car stock?
Has Maintenance been done recently?
Are you running any other plugs than NGK's? (Bosch Platinums are horrible for example)
Is your BOV recirculated?
Have you done a Boost Leak Test?

Answering these questions can help the troubleshooting Process.

@DSMBandit, thanks for your service, I to was a 91b10 Army combat Medic from 1990-1998.

@Jb2zero, Yes the question has been asked before, but if you have a problem answering, or you feel it's a waste of your time. Just don't answer. It is a Newbie question, in a Newbie forum.

@Mr4g +1 on the Maft, i've had similar problems in the past on my DSM, and other vehicles, this would be something to check after the basics have been eliminated.

Yeah its 68w 10 now. Thanks man your right a newbie question on a newbie forum. If you got a problem with it popping up on the front page. Consult a administrator LOL.

Shiny side up

well the winner was the clogged cat. Thanks for the help but now i got electrical problems I hit the key to start it and no power what so ever when i tried starting it. Checked battery terminals they are good but otherwise now power

What it does exactly,
It just don't turn?.
Any Clicking noise?.

Does the Lights turn OFF when in the Crank Position (Key)?.

Give us more Info, so we can give a better Answer.

Check for power, at the Starter wire (black with yellow stripe).
If it gets power in the crank position, then check your connection at the starter, Or the starter by itself.
If it doesn't get power at the Starter, then check you starter relay, It might be OFF.

That's my 2 cents..

However with more Info, will give better answers.

Check your bat terminals. Does it click once or many times? Check your power to your starter nd your ground wire to the car. And of course it would help to check ALL of your fuses you might be able to fix alot of symptoms with just that.

Sorry, it was getting hard to answer the same question on three different threads last night.

My apologies.

Check your terminals again, they can "look" fine but can corrode enough to have power to accessories, but die when you try to crank.

Thats exactly what it was i cleaned them up with some sand paper and it worked good
