the higher thousand K HID you go the more dim the lighting is... of course everyone overlooks this but obviously blue has less lumins then white... and white has less than yellow..

there fore.. if you want brightest you can get 3000k HID is your best bet Yellow
5000K HID for standard yellowish/whitish
6-7000K diamond white (had these on my GSX-R600 and had the perfect balance between light and color.)
anyone that gets 25000k HID is an idiot with purple lights that probably cant see 10 feet infront of them...

on a side note, with projectors do you not have to worry about melting the housing? or is that strictly a balast wattage issue?

i plan to get 6000K HIDS and plan to use the stock housing.. but i want magnified projectors.. and dont wanna risk melting anything.

just get a 6k kit, aim your headlights and you dont need to worry about melting

i have retrofitted corvette projectors in my dsm and i love it best mod so far next to my reverse hids. :thumb:

Norcal_Drifter: You know your shit, thanks man. Some sites have a "harness" add on is that the harness that your talking about? And how hard is it to install HID's? Does it require any splicing of wires and such?

Alex: I got me some legit OEM ones, why do you think I'm selling the replicas LOL

the best hid kits are always plug and play, you dont need to splice anything and yeah thats the harness im talking about, its just a 30amp 12v relay it gets hooked up inline the hid kit and harness. if you hook up your hids to your stock harness its fine but if you have stereo stuff or electronics the alternator/battery gonna be pushing those that need the power first so your lights might not get enough voltage thats when the relay comes in, when you turn on your lights the "signal" wire runs into the relay and the relay pulls 12v+ from the battery straight to the hids. its a good investment.

i got some HIDS from an ebay site items in HID Distributor store on eBay! work great, all plug and play hooked mine up and never had a problem with them, nice and bright and plenty of color choices.

never had trouble with cops either, actually been pulled over for blacked out tail lights and they didnt mention anything about my bright blue HIDS

ive heard that certian HID's can melt the OEM housing is this true. if so what brand wont melt, or are there HID kids that inclue the whole housing witn angel eyes? im looking for a diamond white also 5-6000k HID

HIDS actually run cooler than normal bulbs, they last a hell of a lot longer too

If you got the good OEM one's, just get a kit from sharphid.com , either a 4300k -6000k kit.

Is it still necessary to have the harness if I dont have any electrical "upgrades" like stereo system?

All I have that's upgraded is a boost gauge and aftermarket alarm if those count.

I just finished doing this mod on my headlights and it isn't that difficult. I did not even check the alignment of my old lights, I just took them apart, removed a couple of things, screwed in the projectors, then a little trimming and put them back together.

The light output is incredible and the high beams are super bright.

By the way, the brightest color temp is 4500k . Anything higher starts to loose light output.

I have blue 10k hids Xeons, and i love them, people on the highway just move right out of my way when i get behind them, and more than a few times people in front of me on a two lane road pull over and let me pass by them. Im happy with my 10k's.LOL

If I had some blinding lights behind me I'd be moving too#

You are happy to disturb others on the road  That seems selfish and childish to me :hmm:

I've heard that the HID ballasts can cause some radio reception and noise. Anyone have problems like that?

i got some 8ks but i aimed mine right so i wouldnt blind people haha,

i have a fully custom sound system and dont get any noise from my ballasts, they give off a little buzz if your hood is popped and the headlights are on but thats it.

DDMTuning.com, located in San Diego and Huntington Beach, I have been to their shop a few times and they are nice people. Cheap HID's and lifetime warranty. I have a set in my car and 6 of my family members cars not including the other 15 sets i bought for friends with none having problems.

I second this.

First off, its quite nice to see people quoting my write up. Especially after some of the negative responses I received because the retro was "too easy". Do me a favor and mark that write up and useful. :)

Seriously though, I did it, I did the write up. If I can do it, you can do it. It's really that easy. And I think the others who've followed it will agree. Once you have it completed and back on the car, you wonder how you were driving before without them. It's really that much better. Good luck man.

Ive got ebay halo projector headlights $125 with the sharphid.com kit 6000k 55w low beam almost 1 year old $55 it looks great ive drove past cops no prob try it ! Make shure you adjust your headlights so they dont aim too high :dsm:

Are these just HID's behind the stock fluted lens with no projectors? If so can you post a wall shot? I want to get some HID's but the non fluted aftermarket lenses for 1GB's are next to impossible to find now. Anyone have any other ideas?

Which car are you asking about? The VR4 (top) or my 1g GST (bottom)

I was talking about the VR4, didnt realize the 2nd pic was a different car. Either way are you running them both without projectors? If so how is the quality of light? I ask because doing a projector retrofit seems pointless without having the clear/non-fluted lens and those are hard to come by right now. Thanks!

These are not HIDs but might be worthwhile to do. I thought they made a big improvement over regular bulbs.

I have Hella 9006's in my low beams now that have the same output in lumens (approx 1000) as the Sylvania silverstar Ultras and they are decent but far from the amount of light that HID's offer. A 6000k HID is around 2400 lumens for most brands which is a significant difference over normal halogen. I need more bright! LOL

EDIT: Here is a side by side comparison of the silverstar ultras vs 6000k HID's...You get the idea.

The VR4 has JDM glass Headlights (no projectors) with the little ridges in the glass they are not fully clear. And the foglights have a combo of projectors and normal type glass. At night they illuminate the ground very well. When I stand in front of the car it's not blinding unless you kneel down to eye level with the headlights.
