What's up guys. Coming to the end of my parts list and the last part i need to complete my motor other than a crank (pm me if you have a stock/unturned 6 bolt crank please :) is a set of cams. I've looked and looked. I was looking at the bc 280's. they're pretty cheap, have a well known name. But seen many people say not to waste my money. So i looked at kelford's 272 cams. Heard great things, but i really don't want to spend more than $400 on cams, being that im broke =/. I found "dks" cams, and need to know what everyones thoughts are on them. Supposedly spec to hks cams, well made, and rather cheap. However, are they too cheap? Im not looking for the ultimate set of cams, just a nice set that will make decent power without taking a huge chunk from my wallet. My goals are around 5-600hp. all opinions and facts greatly appreciated! thanks guys!

The DKS cams are fine. The only reason they're so cheap is because they don't have the HKS name, otherwise they're the same thing. Delta will even grind them on a brand new cam billet if you ask, that way you don't even have to deal with shimming anything.

Alrighty, im a little confused here. Regrinds, do i ship them stock cams? or do i just order these and throw them in my head? My head is stock with dual valve springs...

They are regrinds done by delta. If you are talking about FFWD's version they are still the same just repackaged. I am currently running some delta 272s and am completely happy with em!

And I was talking about FFWD's dks cams

Okay, im looking at the dks dks3's. You guys think those are a nice set of cams? I'm between those and the bc 280's

Get the 272s from delta ffwd, I'm running those. doesn't even need degreed and i'm ready for a 10sec pass.

All cams should be degreed, even if they're meant as a drop-in. You'd be surprised how far off some are from their actual specs

Definitely go with the DKS cams. BC isn't known for quality or consistency with their products.

Timing belt variances, head gasket thickness, deck height, and head deck amount will all affect cam timing.

With that being said though, I am running DKS regrinds on stock cam gears and have been very happy so far. Before and after dyno with hks 264/272 and dks 272/272 was a pretty good indication they work. Should technically perform exactly like an HKS cam since they are the same grind just a smaller base circle since they are stock regrinds.

Nobody said i didn't check them. What i'm saying is that in my particular setup they didn't need any adjustments. Block decked once and head resurfaced once and MLS head gasket.

Im looking for at least a 272, I love the "lope" in the idle, so i love the sound of 280's. But i also came across the comp cams... Are they pretty good? I don't seem to hear much positive or negative things about them. thanks again for all the help guys, this site is awesome!

Comps aren't lopey. And they're expensive.

I never said you didn't either, I was just pointing it out for OP so that he knows to at least check his cams. I should have phrased my post a bit better.

I've had FFWD DKS 272's also without the shim on my stock head and block, idle agressively/great, but ever since I built my block and shim the lifter's, cant really hear the agressive idles. But I can only say great things about them. You'll be happy with a set of dks cams.

Ahhh, another one.... Can you please show me the info you have on this? I have seen a few threads about this, and they have come out to be the owner of the part did not install it properly, or tried to do something it was not intened too.

So links to where you gotten this info from.

I have installed alot of BC parts with out one issue, or failure.

I've seen this too. Why doesn't anyone like BC and why do sites like stm even say they wouldn't recommend them? What's so terrible about em?

I had no problems with my Comp 272 cams. Idle was great and had good power band. You said you looked into Kelfords then check out Deltas K272's. If you go with DKS I havnt heard anything bad about them.

With the Keford cams, you will need to get BEEHIVE springs, the ones Kelford sells to match the cams, or Kiggly Beehives or Ferrea Beehives.

So now the $400 Kelford cams just became about $1000 for cams, springs and retainers

If you run anyother sping, single or dual, you run a high risk of spring bind or failure and alot more money spent.

Look at the post above yours. They arent known for their quality.

I have the post above Wild96gs

I like and use and install alot of BC parts.
I have installed appox 40-50 sets of the BC1100 springs by now, I have yet to have a 4g head come back due to a BC failure.

Go back and read what I posted, and take the time to understand what I said.
