OK so Im new to the DSM world, heck new to the 4 cylinder world all together. So looking for some advice, I know these cars are capable of huge power. I want 11's possibly 10's. What do I need and how streetable are these cars with this amount of mods? I go pick up my 6 bolt motor this weekend and drop it off at the machine shop to get the build started. I need to know everything. turbo, engine mods, tranny, AWD components, etc. Doing research but sometimes advice from the ppl who are already doing it is best.

95 gsx

Anything is possible if you have enough $$$. They have a tech guide on here and it will show you anything you want as far as mod paths to go

Look up peoples times and see what mods they had when they accomplished those times.

Just go to the top and click Members>DSM 1/4 Mile Times

I consider my car very streetable so take a lock the mods list and message me if you have any questions.

2 things that should've been done differently

1. HD pistons
2. L19's

fixd :p

Searching and looking through the build threads to see what everyone else has done would be the easiest way to see what's necessary

only after you have the minimal required # of battle scars :D

Minimal required # of battle scars? From a dsm??!?!! Haha are you nucking futz!?!? There's some smart people around here but who can really count that freaking high?? :p

But really, OP just follow the tech guide and you'll be just fine. If your block is at a reputable machine shop then they'll have a pretty good idea of what to do after you explain to them your hp goals, and streetable goals, and should be able to get your engine done up pretty good for you. Also it's a little better for some people to explain, and have things explained in person.

Good luck :thumb:

Well I'm so there, I've probably needed stitches twice already. This dirty whore is about to take a rag in the gas tank :banghead:.

Drop one tool and I have to pull the exhaust, transfer case and oil pan.... SWEET!

Everything is streetable in Indiana but everything changes when I came back to California... so I parting my car out but this is easily a 9s and capable of 8s. I don't how it is in Oklahoma.

Streetable is subjective unless you mean legally LOL. Some people will drive solid hub puck clutches and strong as hell pressure plate clutch setups on the street with 700+ HP.. others wouldn't dream of taking out there A/C or power steering. *shrug* just depends on what your willing to live with, theres compromises in any mod. And the more you mod and the more speed/acceleration you want the more you have to compromise if you want to keep it something to drive on the street.

That and building a fast, reliable street car cost a lot more than a drag car. Don't jump the gun and go all into modding though, look the car over real well and do any maintenance that the car needs! This is the biggest thing new guys skip over and then blow up there car and say "DSM's are unreliable crap!" well shit some are over 20 years old now WTF did you expect!?

Once you have all the maintenance done, and I mean a lot more than just new plugs and an oil change. THEN I would suggest looking into ECMLink or a similar solution, and THEN once you verify the ECU is logging everything at the right values (because if it's not then something is wrong somewhere) THEN start tuning...But your going to need to read, and do a SHIT ton of research if you want to do things the "right way" and not have issues. I have been into dsms for quite a while, let me tell you these things can take a shit ton of abuse if built right, but if you don't know what your doing, they will not tolerate it for very long before they break down. The 4G63 is damn near a "race engine" from the factory, it was developed with rally racing and performance in mind and built accordingly. It's not an eco engine. Take care of it and the car, and it will treat you well and give you rewarding smiles from ear to ear, neglect it, or just be an idiot in how you mod it. And it will basicly take a shit on you.

what kind of turbo are you running?

1st. Maintenance maintenance maintenance maintenance maintenance. Everything has to be in working order first.
2nd. Come up with a goal that meats your wants and needs.
3rd. Research the parts that will get you there.
4th. Purchase and install said parts.
5th. Enjoy results!

Your mileage may vary ;)
