hey guys have a weird problem that just manifested itself about a week ago. I have a 97 gsx with 16g, fmic, hks ssqv, 2.5" exhaust, denso 255, gutted cat, hallman mbc, and stock injectors. Since i bought the car a few months ago the a/f has been in the 15's while cruising and at idle. I have a aem uego wideband btw. Anyways i was driving a couple weeks ago and noticed my a/f was starting to run in the 12-11"s at idle and while cruising. I thought that it was possibly an o2 sensor so i went ahead and changed it out because i had planned on it anyway since the po hacked the harness for a narrowband o2. This did not fix the problem so i am baffled. I have read that there have been rich running issues with the stock fpr not being able to allow enough fuel to bypass but it would have done it before if this was the case. My second thought after o2 was possibly an iat sensor or coolant temp but with a scan tool while pulling a code it showed my engine temp was 210 deg so that rules it out (code was for fuel trim because i've had to compensate with my safc) After further research found that our cars have the iat sensor in the maf sensor so that got me to thinking could my maf be going bad? especially since my factory boost gauge doesn't work anymore, i've heard that it is a sign of a faulty maf when the factory boost gauge no longer works. I appreciate your input and just to verify i've tested 3 times and there are NO BOOST LEAKS LOL thanks again guys

well since there are no boost leaks,. swapping the maf is worth a shot. checking the fuel pressure might not hurt either. I wouldnt be surprised if it was alittle higher than 43psi at base (with line off/ clamped)

i just figured that since the problem with the fpr is not bypassing enough fuel that it is not a part thats going to finally "give up" and cause a rich condition i would have had that problem from the beginning. The maf is $150 does anyone have a more definitive answer that doesn't involve throwing more parts at it? LOL thanks for the reply though man

Was the fuel trim code on before you started messing with the SAFC? Can you "view data" on the code reader and see what fuel trims are and/or if it is in open or closed loop?

I have a feeling the car is stuck in open loop from it not being able to cycle the o2 sensor around stoich for x amount of time. Try clearing the codes then starting it up again while looking at the data stream. See if the fuel trims peg in one direction or the other then go into open loop. Also see what the MAF sensor is reading and compare that to other ECMlink logs, I can't remember the lb/min spec at idle.

Maybe find someone with a working MAF to swap out, $150 is steep for a guess.

Most parts stores should have a code reader capable of viewing data, Advance Auto being one.

The system read closed loop 52mph, 210deg, I'm just guessing that the code is from the safc because it never happened before I started compensating for the rich condition. I may take you up on that maf too man pm me your paypal

Are you running Ecmlink/dsmlink best? What version? Early versions for the 2g don't store setting if the battery is disconnected. Also are you running E85, it is getting cold and now it's something like E70.

it was checkers obd2 scan tool LOL and I just run 91 octane, I just took out my lower honeycomb for now till I buy a fpr and dsm link after christmas LOL I almost wonder if fixing all my boost leaks is what made it run rich :p

Fxing your boost would trap more air in the pipes, thus making the a/f ratio leaner. Stock mafs are pretty easy to come, cheaply. Have you messed with the low settings on your safc lately? They may need tweeking....

Idle and cruising= vaccume LOL I am getting the code because I've tried remedying the problem via safc. Im trying to find the reasoning behind the enrichment. I guess I'll just drive it like it is now till november when I get dsm link and go from there ill keep everyone updated though we'll eventually find this phantom enrichment LOL
