1999 eclipse 420a non-turbo

Just got done passing up a truck, was going about 80, car died.

Cranks but won't start.

Fuel pump primes. Tested voltage. OK.

Has spark. Tested all 4 plugs.

I'm going to voltage test all the sensors tonight. Anything special I should look for?

A compression test would help confirm Justin's thought, and I agree with him.

It has spark and the fuel pump still primes so the belt didn't break, could of skipped though. I'd do a compression test. Where did you find this 1g with a 420a?

I'm sorry. 1999 Eclipse

I have a wrecked dodge avenger I picked up with a newly rebuilt 420a w/ port & polished heads that runs fine, its just ugly as sin. I had planned to swap the engines anyway since mines going on 180k miles.

Jumped time / broken timing belt.

Agree, i believe it jumped timing!
This happened to my 2001 Subbie 2.5RS and I had no clue what happened, the engine just shut off and downshifted as my speed reduced! No Noises of any sort, ending up bending all my intake valves!! NOT a cheap price tag on a car i have no ideal how to work on!! :/
Luckily you have a n/t dsm!

I will check it tonight. Just incase that is fine, is there any sensor that I should look out for? Camshaft position sensor, coolant temp. sensor, etc. ?

IT could be something as a cam or crank sensor. I don't know why people just assume that it is the timing belt any time a car stops running. I don't see anything that sticks out and says timing belt when you hear that the car died and won't start. Yes it is a possibility, but there are 20 other possibilities also. Do a compression test, you will know right then and there if it is timing belt related.

And those 20 different possibilities are?

That's why hes here asking for opinions.
Do the 2gs even have a C(am)AS?

Compression test is just removing the spark plugs and turning over the card with the compression tool in the cylinder?

I've seen crank gears just rip the teeth off the timing belt too. So even if the belt has tension that doesn't mean its turning the cams as well.

My opinion is, do not only check the top of your timing belt visually. Take the cover off and crank it to make sure everythings turning.

A compression check will turn out a-ok if there was a situation like the one i've described. Spark would most likely also be present ( I don't know where the 420a gets the reading to get spark?).

May or may not be the case here, but it sure stumped me on an older porsche for a few weeks LOL. I was working alone on it, so if any of you know porsche's it's pretty hard to look, crank, fix, diagnose, and all that by yourself. ;)

If that is a v-6 venge your gonna have some issues swapping the engines.

If its a 420a, that is a hell of a mod adding another head.

You guys are correct. Timing belt snapped. I have another 420a off my avenger ill swap in. Oh well
