I was in there market to pick up some 2.5" upper and lower ic pipes and wanted to get my 1G sidemount intercooler inlet & outlet enlarged to 2.5" to match, has anybody done this to there 1g sidemount?

I"ve seen several people mod them out in different ways, I've stacked two together and welded up home made end tanks tothe cores and ran 2.5 in and out, worked ok i gues but had no way to log AIT on that car, but he said it felt like it ran better (it was on a SAAb turbo)

IMHO, that would not be worth your time. Just use reducer couplers on your stocker until you upgrade to a more efficient unit.

Sure, you could cut the original inlet and outlet pipes off and have someone weld 2.5" on there, no problem. But the issues is the stock SMIC heatsoaks way too easy.

I think DejonPowerhouse (then dejontool) used to modify stock SMICs, but I don't see anything on their website now.

If you insist on a sidemount, you may look for an old ALAMO sidemount. That thing is a monster but still mounts in the stock location and has the inlet/outlet you desire, plus it can handle a lot more air. I have a buddy who could outrun my low 12's AWD with his FWD with that thing and a EvoIII 16G.

I recommend saving for a FMIC kit. Punishment has them for pretty cheap and the quality isnt bad.

What is the diameter of the inlet and outlet of the SMIC? 2.25"?

Most people wouldn't waste their time modifying a stock intercooler like that. Especially when you can buy reducer couplers and be done with it. But it's definitely doable if you're really bored and have a TIG welder.

I guess i should have a disclaimer on my signature that says " i have a full machine/welding shop and stay constantly bored" LOL I do things that make no sense if i feel like it or a friend asks and supplies parts. probably not good to follow too much of what i do LOL

I've also heard of people making a hybrid out ot a 1g and 2g smic..But like Glenn said unless your bored It's not going to help you much....

Not feasible when a Supra sidemount core is larger, thicker, and already has a 2.5" inlet/outlet for $50-$100.

True but isn't mounting the supra sidemount a PITA...
It's a hell of a lot easier than welding two 2G cores together or fitting larger piping to a 1G core.

When mounting the Supra SMIC to my FWD about seven years ago, I recall using nothing more than a large sledge and a hole saw.

Well that sounds prety easy then..Basically make the holes bigger and there you go..

Ha ha..Funny guy

I'm glad you find it amusing that I comment on things I have experience with and not just submit "me too" or "I heard" responses in every thread.

You can't say I post me too Or I heard in every one of my posts..I'm sure there are a few, just like this thread..But I did read the write up on the supra sidemount install, and It looked like a pita.. But well worth it if you don't plan on going over 350whp...

Or you just have it out for me..I havn't decided yet..I'm kinda leaning torwards you have it out for me..

I'm the same way on occasion. Sometimes it's fun to take the path less travelled if I'm willing and able. :) Other times I just go with what's easier.

I think he just did a moment ago.

Yep, he did.

Can't help but make another observation. I joined this site in 2003, and have been on it, well I can't say every day. But most of the days in a year, any given year. I'll put it that way. You joined in 2008. Thats 5 years after I did. Yet your post count is significantly higher. Just wanted to point this out, as it's my polite attempt that I dont want missed at saying "no one likes post whores". ;)

With that I digress and stir the pot no more.

I modified my stock 1g mount to have a 2.5 inlet/outlet. But I am using meth injection pre intercooler and one at tb elbow. Works Damn good. Plus my car is a total sleeper no big fmic but close to 350whp on a small16g
