I need to find out what short shifter on the market is best for my car. I bought a really cheap short shifter...not knowing that it was a knock off -__- smh. It has a short throw between gears but there is a lot of play in the shifter itself.

It really pisses me off when im driving because all I hear is things clanking under my shiftboot. I reopened everything and made sure everything was tight and snug..but no, still has play. I also have another problem, when i shift into 1st, 2nd, 5th & reverse...the shifter goes right back into the middle of the boot(still in gear). I can't figure out what the problem may be, i dont know if it's suppose to be like that or not.

Also, the short shifters you guys suggest, i need a shift knob that will fit on that thread pitch aswell. Looking for a white ball shift knob.

What I want to know is:
-What is the best short shifter to buy?
-White ball shift knob to go with it...
-What is up with the crazy play in my gears?

Any help or advice will be most appreciated!
Thanks,
Kevin.

The only thing i can think of is self-fabrication. But, thats kinda ricer, no offense bro..i'm just trying to help you out from one dsmer to another.:thumb:

How is customizing your car on your own ricer? I've cut sections out of shift levers and welded the threaded section back on to make the stock height shorter, I'd say go for it.

If your pretty good at fabrication then go for it, but if your diving into something that you have no experience in then its going to look and maybe perform bad. But if you know what your doing then its something you might want to look into. I have seen ricers try to do things blindly and it turns out for the worst but yet they think its awesome...smh.

Those energy suspension bushings are great, I bought a set years ago, and I always recomend them. The stock thread pitch on the oem shifter is 10M x 1.25. The "real" B&M had the same thread pitch, some of the "fake" B&M look-a-likes have a different thread pitch, so be aware of that before you buy your shift knob.

Thanks, i'll try to make sure i dont make any mistakes

i know this thread seems to be about short throw shifters... but does anyone know of a good short shifter so the stick itself is just shorter? i like the stock throw on my 2g.. just want a smaller stick. any help would be appreciated.

What I did man just cut a piece off of it and welded it bak together.. So without much work u end up with a shorter shifter :)... And works great too

.... no not really ricer at all.... its a comfort thing, the throw on the 2g is just fine, my car is a sleeper bro, no rice, just want a shifter similar to my 350z's shortie:thumb:

good idea, i would totally do that if i had a Tig or a wire feed... but sadly i dont have access to it... so does anyone know of something bolt on that would do the same deal?

i dont want the short throw cause its easy to loose track of your gearing and i like the throw how it is, just feels like im shifting a truck ;)

I can provide you a quote from a guy who picked up time just from swapping back to the stock shifter. The short shifters like to get wedged against the shifter base.

I've been running a B&M shifter for 9 years now, and I can assure you that it doesn't get wedged against anything. It works like a charm in fact. of course a stock shifter will probably work better than a problematic aftermarket shifter, but they aren't all problematic. And a good working short throw shifter will always allow for a quicker, more accurate shift than a long-throw factory shifter.

Captain Obvious says: If time was picked up, it was from replacing a problematic part, not because a longer throw is quicker.

I used to have a JNZ short throw. It seemed to work good, but then I put the stock one back in with a 2g heavy leather knob. This, combined with base bushings, cable end bushings, properly adjusted cables, good working clutch, and GOOD shift cables was a winning combination.....with or without the JNZ shifter.

I've installed the Megan shifter into a 2g. This shifter, combined with cable end bushings, shifter base bushings, Greddy counterweight shift knob, properly adjusted cables, and a good working clutch also proved to be an awesome combination.

I've driven a 500whp DSM at the track with a built transmission, good working clutch, B&M shifter, stock shifter bushings, stock cable ends, worn shift cables, and could barely run 12's because I couldn't shift into 2nd gear fast enough due to all the worn out shifter parts.

Do you see a pattern here?

Well i need everything in that area redone, mine when i shift fast to 2nd it goes to the left more and like way down uh,,, whats up with that? but then again its stock and the previous owner didnt take care of it, so i know i need all new parts gosh wonder how much itll cost me to get new bushings, short shifter etc

Don't buy the megan racing shifter i had one. The c-clip didn't like to stay in place.

I have a Megan I bought a new C Clip and im very happy with it

Both the Megan and b&m have the stock thread pitch. I have both but I prefer the b&m just because of the name.

They claim to have stock thread pitch but somethings funny about it, I had an aftermarket knob on my stock shifter then i switched to Megan and it no longer would fit, but stock 100 fits

That's what ours are supposed to do---work the same as stock just with a shorter throw. :thumb:

The thing about our's is that it replaces all of the stock shifter busings when you buy it (with exception of the outer two on the bolt that holds it into place.

Unfortunately, we don't make a 2G one which the OP is in search of.
