Here's the deal i'm 30 years old and finally got that big raise. I'm pretty secure in my job and i'm missing a having a fun car to drive.

I live a pretty rural area but i'm only about 3 hours from English Racing or Surgeline. I have a reliable daily driver already.

Cars I've had:
2001 Mustang GT - Very fun
2005 Evo Bone Stock - My favorate car to date
2006 Fully built STI (~400WHP ~420tq) - Fun car but i was afraid something was going to blow up and my 26k i paid for it would go down the drain and I'd have to get it towed.

I want something fun to drive, that requires some maintenance but not enough for a second job. I've been looking at DSM's because i've never had one but i'm having trouble finding "the one." Is there anything else out there I should be looking at? I keep looking at evo's again but holy crap the prices haven't changed since I sold mine 5 years ago. I purchased my 05 evo with 11k on it for $24,000. I've seen my exact car with similar miles on sale for $22,000 just last week....

Toyota Supra

1. Bullet proof engine.
2. Sexy
3. Gets lots of putang due to number 2.
4. Sexy
5. Will go up in value
6. Sexy

C6 or evo

'03-4 Mustang Cobra
Evo
Mark IV Supra
3000GT VR4
DSM
etc.

RS4. Not the fastest thing out there but quick and civilized.

This would be easier if you said what your budget was.

Otherwise S4, 135, 335, viper, nsx can all be had for under 30k although may need a bit of extra maintenance beyond what you want

If your budget is bigger, cts-v

I'd like to keep it under 10k for now. I keep debating getting a 15-20k car or higher but then i'd feel like i would need to daily drive it. I'm surprised that all the DSM peoples always point to other cars ;)

El Es Jaun camaro... About the only thing that'd fit your budget beyond another DSM.

Also Yakima isn't that rural...

You could afford a '99-04 Mustang GT, or done up Foxbody, almost any import if you were in Canada, a TT 3000GT/Stealth, any DSM you want... that's all I can think that's any decent under $10k, but prices are probably different in your area.

Under 10k, what about a Miata if you want something different than you're used to, or just sell your other car and go back to an Evo DD. Although im 26 and have DD'd my Evo for almost 5yrs now and I'm longing for something more comfortable on a daily basis

Or a boxster

So you're looking for a dd for under 10k?

If your looking for a fun car for 10k id go with a ls camaro hands down. 99 z28's also have the ls1. They go for as low as 6k. Leaves 4k for mods.

With 5k id get a 1g gsx and put 4k into tasteful mods.

With 20k you might be able to grab a terminator cobra.

Nope you read that wrong. I already have a DD that is comfortable and reliable. I was saying that if you spend 15k to 25k or more on a car you want it to be your daily driver. Otherwise you will feel guilty of just all the money sitting there, at least from my experience.

I want something I can go goof around with and the store for a week and drool over the next mod or whatever. Pretty much what most DSM owners do except they end up renting a car for a week as something explodes.

I did end up buying a car though, I went with a DSM in the end because of a few things:
1) Still popular easily available parts
2) English Racing is really close
3) More information on DSM's then any other car on the net i've seen in terms of how to guides for everything and tuns of great forum members here offering support.
4) It was a great deal, almost all the mods i'd want and great condition. I won't feel guilty about it if something breaks and I need to leave it sitting in the garage for a week or two.
5) They are kind of sleeper cars for people that don't know anything about cars. I hate having hicks in big trucks try and race me all the time, even if it is my cousin....

Pretty much where I ended up with my Sti. At some point you look at your massive amount of HP and think, what the heck am I driving this around for? Then you start thinking about how so many other cars will be more comfortable, they wont smell bad and you never use all the HP anyway. Then you sell the car and say I'm done with the modified car scene.

Then about a year later you look and say man I really wish I had..... :). I've done this many times now...

maybe even look into the LTx F-bodies. you can pick up a clean '93-'97 F-body for under $7k pretty easily.

I really want to keep the car for hpde's so I won't sell it unless I have to, but a comfy DD is really getting tempting but I know I'd miss the Evo too much if I were to sell it
