ok i went to go start my car today and it ran fine for about 10 seconds then i heard my ecu clicking really fast then my car shut off, i try to turn it back on but i dont hear the fuel pump turn on before i turn the car on, the fuse for the rewire kit is still good, could it be the relay in the back? the pump turns on for the couple of seconds when i turn the car and it turns over and then shut it off then the pump turns off, i go back to acc postion on the car before i turn the key to turn it on hoping that if i wait long enough magic will happen and it fix itself instead i heard the ecu clicking really fast again i think its trying to turn the fuel pump on but then i take the key back out and try it again and sit there and snothing, can someone tell me some things to try that maybe a simple fix, im thinking it might have to deal witht the rewire kit but idk so PLEASE HELP!!!

Sounds like the ECU is fried. Remove it and open it up and verify that is blown, most likely a capasitor blew . In case you dont know were the ECU is located its behind the stereo.

Are you sure your battery is good?, theres a relay behind the stereo that controlls the Fuel pump check that also. Make sure the fuel pump rewire relays are snuggly connected and that the 12V wire isnt grounding somewere.

yeah the battery is good, i was also thinking that water might have gotten on the relay for the rewire kit because weve been having alot of rain and just today it started to do this, ill have to check the relay behind the stereo i didnt know about that and how exactly would you check the relay? check for cotinuity?

How to check relay

Also im pretty sure that on the 2G's the fuel pemp will turn on with the key and then turn off. then the pump won't turn back on until the ECU sees oil pressre. I'm not sure if thats the same on the 1G's tho.

Since a 1g and 2g will run until it seizes (if it looses oil pressure), i'm pretty sure it is looking for a trigger pulse. A 1g has to have the engine turning over for the pump to run, it does not prime the system like most cars.

thanks guys and i have my fuel pump always on when i turn it to the acc and i decided to keep it, i would fall out of love then fall back in love with it so i decided to keep it but ill look at that relay when i get a chance again

Thanks for the clarification I could not remember off the top of my head

found that the fast clicking was indeed the fuel pump relay behind the stereo, quick question is every fuel pump relay in the 1g the same or does it differ between non turbo and turbo? unless someone knows where to buy one and quick because i will be going back to work tuesday

A good way to check if its the MPI relay under the stereo is to check for spark, that relay controls both fuel and spark. Otherwise you can ohm it out, but that isn't always a 100%.

the reason i suspect the relay for the fuel pump is because i had the pump set up to turn on when i had the key in acc and when it happened that relay was clicking really fast and have heard that ever before, does anyone know if that relay differs between non turbo and turbo because if it doesnt then i can go to the junk yard and get one but i not does anyone know where i can get one i couldnt find anywhere online to buy it

junk yard had 2 of the fuel pump relays and it didnt fix the problem, i also bought a new relay for the rewire kit also and that didnt fix the problem, i have the fuel pump in link set up to turn on everytime i turn the acc on but i dont hear it, the pump does turn on when i crank the car tho, as soon as i get my tuning laptop charged ill see if i can see something pop up in link if anyone has any other ideas please help

normally i hear the pump kick on when i have the car in acc and yes i checked the fuse and it didnt blow, but now i only hear the pump kick on for a little bit when i turn the car over then turns off when i stop cranking, i have power up to the relay for the rewire kit and i must have power going to the pump since i can hear it turn on when im cranking but not when in acc, im guessing its not priming the system, is there a fuse or something small that it could be?

UPDATE: ok i went out and tried hooking up to link and it couldnt connect, maybe the ecu then? but when also weird was when i was messing with some little black relay under the stereo the pump turned on just for a little bit till i when to turn the car off and take the ground off then check the plug since they will most likely need to be replaced due to fuel but then i put the ground back on went back into the car and nothing again, does anyone know what that little relay is under the stereo by the fuel pump relay?

car still has no start and cant connect to link also, car is going up for sale for 1200 im just tired of it, if someone has any other ideas of what it could be please do tell, i dont have an extra ecu to check if its that so i guess my loss thanks for all the help that you guys give me and hopefully i can stay in a dsm

Well my first question to you is have you checked the pressure at the fuel rail? obviously if your rail has pressure your pump is not the issue, no matter if its kicking on or not by your estimate. Next, have you checked for spark? There could be a million and one things it is and you seem to be fixated on just that fuel pump. if you started it, ran for a few min, then it just stopped running all of a sudden its unlikely the pump, as in most vehicles it will sputter and then die as the fuel pressure starts to drop off. Like pulling the EFI fuse to relieve fuel pressure before doing anything in the fuel system. My suggestion would be to check more than just the fuel pump replays. Go with the basics and work out from there. You said you opened up the ECU and nothing looked wrong or burn, but did u look under a magnifying glass? I have had times where a cap blew but u had to look really close without a magnifying glass to even notice it. Now mind you im drawing from experiences with other vehicles and not just DSM on this, but I would check your ECU if your link wont connect at all. Sounds like it fried. Maybe had a wire ground out to the case or something.

i didnt think it was my fuel pump i was just saying that from how i had link set up the pump would turn on when i had the car in acc, the pump will turn on when i crank it a couple time, i also think its the ecu now i was just hoping it would have been something smaller, i cant connect to link anymore on my laptop and ive never had any problems connecting to link, its not the cable because my computer is still getting a signal from the serial port but nothing from the ecu, i just need to find someone around here that i could borrow there ecu and check
