I own a 420a, posted hear because more 4g s run this style turbo. I planning on getting a new turbo an was wondering if the Hx35 was a good daily turbo to get. Would it be better to buy owner direct or can I get one in the junk yard? If needed can I rebuild or must it be sent off? Were the best place to get the exhaust housing? Minus injectors can my setup support it? Any other suggestions?
Power goal 325-375
Use. Drag
An if it matters most boost I plan to run 25.

Goals for the car check ebay, or freelancer for the holset turbo, vendors beb for housing. Get a 14b or 16g for daily and call it a day, cant just throw a holset and start running. Work up to it, depends on goals for dd a mhi turbo will be just fine.

Determining if it is a good turbo for a daily is up to you.

You can get one at a junkyard out of a Cummins powered truck (not sure on make and model but a quick search will answer that)

You can rebuild it with the right parts and know-how

I'm a noob but the setup looks good to me

Other suggestions: read the fat Holset threads on here. There are like 8 of them

Everyone's version of daily driver is different. Some people thing a 14b or a 16g is the perfect size for a DD while others believe that a larger turbo is the perfect size.

Any turbo is fine for DD, you need to have a goal and work around what you want to do. You'll need the proper supporting mods before putting the Holset on. Proper oil drain size (pretty much a -12AN), proper oil pressure to the turbo, fuel mods, tuning solution, etc. etc.

Thank s keep em coming. Right now I have a 60 trim on the car( its puffing smoke) I see full spool at 4500 an that was with a large manifold leak pre turbo. Don't mine waiting for the spool usual once I get the 60 spooling thats all she wrote.

I have the 12an as a return. Reasons I did that because my restrictor is .80 feeding from a 4an line an at wot I hit 100 PSI easy. So for the only other mods I can do is bore over an bigger injectors.

If you think your 60trim is fine for daily driving you'll be even happier with the holset. THey are easily rebuildable, (jusmx141 on here has probably done 100+ of them this year with the way he rebuilds blowers for the board members) Parts are all over out there just gotta use google.

I wanted an hx-35 because of the many good things about them but ended up[ with a huge (to me ) 67mm turbo that's spooling around 5500 but my car is still perfectly mannered on a daily driving basis
