I just bought a 95 Eclipse GST the other day. The guy I bought it from said that all i needed was a ECU, So i went out and bought one. I put it in, and all it does it crank. I checked the compresion in the 4th cylinder and it had 125ish PSI. I know thats not normal. But the previous owner has done a lot of work. like bigger turbo, inner cooler, wastegate, cold air intake, I'm sure motor work. But there are some sensors unpluged. I'll put pictures up in a little.

My question is. How do i check for spark? and what else should I look for to try to get it started?

Are there spouse to be wires or plugs on the head?

Pull a wire and put a plug into it and have someone look at it when your cranking. The compression is suppose to be 180 ish.

ya but thats with the car warm u will have lower readings with it cold and throttle closed. u can try a little oil in each cylinder if u want try like half a cap to a cap full of oil. but u can always stick a screwdriver in the plug wire and lie it on the head and crank it should ark.

Alright. But when i looked up compression. it said stock was from 102-110?? but it should be around 180 warm?
I'll look at it when i get back to my house. Thanks For the help. I'll keep you guys posted

Factory Compression is within the 180ish range, warm. If your compression is EVER 108, it's time to rip that engine apart. You will not, however, get accurate readings until the engine is warm.

One thing I've noticed is you're running a Coil on Plug setup. Was the car running prior to you getting it? There are a few pieces to rewire when you install a COP that, if not wired properly, would cause the setup to deliver no spark.

Those should help.

So i went out and bought a new battery today, i threw it in, it cranked over once. then i went to check the spark in it. and all it does it click. What could it be?
Sorry for all the questions, i've never owned a car. only ford trucks.

If it wouldnt crank the bad connection at the battery or the one you just got might be dead has happened to me more than once

I found out i have a bad starter. but then i also found out that i need to buy a new ECU for the car and have it programed, the ecu and programing it will cost me over $1200:ohdamn:
Any ideas on what i should do? because i need a daily driver and i also dont have the money to buy a ECU.

For $1200 you might be able to buy a whole car that no longer runs. So you can get whatever you need. But the 95 ECU is different, if I understand correctly. You can make 96-99 ECUs work, however.

Sorry, that's not really helpful, I guess.

How did you find out you need a new ECU?

You have a 95 which should be a eprom and you can get one for cheap on the classifieds. How do you know yours is bad? The starter if you can turn a wrench isn't that hard to change out at all would i pay 1200 for a ecu and starter no but the ecu change out is even easy er. Unless your running bigger injectors and different mas you should be fine with stock ecu.

Being a mechanic is no problem for me. i work on all the vehicles at my house. but i called Mitsubishi and they said that you cant swap them out? thats the only reason why i said that. and they want $1000 plus tax to get one and another $150 to program it. i have 2 ecus in the car right now. but i dont think there eprom. instead of the E on it, it has a T and there is a 5th wire that doesnt go into the ecu.
