Hey everybody if my egr valve went bad does anybody know where its located and if I block it off will it benifit my engine any.. would it help with power I herd from sombody who's wrkd with dsm's before but idk if he knows what he's talking about somtimes....

On the intake power gain not that i ever heard of just cleans up the engine bay. Yank it and dont worry about it 2g will get a cel if im correct.

2g you will get a cell. But if you have dsmlink you can bypass that. JMFab makes a block off plate. Its emissions related. And as far of power gain you wont notice anything. The location is under the intake. you can see if if you take out the battery.

I blocked off the EGR in my panda. Make sure you have a good seal on both plates.
What I did was I left the wires connected to the black module and just capped the one rubber hose side. I dont throw a CEL because of it. About 1.4lbs taken off car and decent gas mileage. The EGR returns unspent exhaust back into the intake. I took it off and noticed a cleaner running engine actually. No HP gain thats noticable.

Will my gas mileage go out the window?

You should definitely remove the egr(exhaust gas recirculation) system. It is what makes your intake all dirty and covered in exhaust deposits. This is all the black mess that builds around your intake valves that you see. So without the egr you will be cleaning up the intake which Can and probably will benefit your gas mileage.

It shouldn't, the only way you will find out is do a fill up, travel a predetermined distance and fill up again. Calculate how much fuel you used by looking at how much is put back in.

When I did this I noticed a slight increase in hwy maybe 2-3 miles per gal.
In town I have noticed bad fuel economy, but I also have a bad IAC.

I started before the elimination with 26-30mpg city and about 30-34 hwy, after the block off I get 20+ city ( bad IAC ) and I'm getting almost my regular hwy mileage. With a new IAC I'm hoping to clean up the rough idle at low RPM's and increase my city and possibly hwy.

I decided to block it off because I wanted to find out what was going to happen. Since I dont have wideband o2's to read what my rich/lean mix is while driving, I had to do a fill up and calculate method. I also stood behind my car and smelled the exhaust. If it burns your eyes and throat its running rich. I couldn't notice anything out of the ordinary so I figured everything was alright. No problems with a CEL yet either so my 2nd o2 is reading normal catalyst/oxygen emissions.

Please post when you complete and evaluate the difference. I would like to know how it worked out.

You can buy the egr block off on ebay its cheap and all it does it make black smoke come out the exhaust nothing bad

No, it will not make black smoke come out of your exhaust. I ask again that you post up ONLY when you know proper answers.

EGR delete will cause a cel on a 420a. There is NO DSMLink for the 420a. In theory, gas mileage can suffer VERY slightly. But that's in theory. Those that have checked their gas mileage have not seen any noticeable losses or gains.
But I like to delete it, because I honestly hate having the build up of soot being dumped into my intake.

My CEL never came on. I left the sensor and capped the small vacuum line running from the solenoid. Its not too ugly either.
Some have had luck with various "tricks" to fool the ECU. A very few have not had to deal with a cel. If you search on here, you could find a few different strategies that have worked with some and not worked with others.

blindboarder, you are a very lucky guy indeed if you aren't throwing a cel by simply blocking off the vac line. Good for you :thumb:

I wanted to re-explain how I did this with the aid of pics from my EGR solenoid.

Since the EGR would be filled with carbon, a CEL will flash when the proper amount of vacuum isn't reached. I took the EGR valve out, now there is no vacuum pull on the solenoid or system. Cap your ends and plug back in. If you take this out and leave it out of the car, you will most likely throw a CEL. If it is still plugged in, the ECU believes the car to be running normally. This made sense to do. I never researched this route on the internet.

Maybe I'm lucky bullettdsm, or maybe my crafty idea worked the 1 time I needed it too. :thumb:

Well, since we're down this road, it might help to read through this to see why you are considered lucky (start off with Driggsy's post 15 to get an understanding of how the egr system looks to the ECU. It does look for some vac, so without it, it would say "Hey there's something wrong" and throw a cel).

If you continue on you can get an idea of the conversation on these.

And here's another at length;

Just for information's sake.

I actually read that thread 3 times from first to last post before I did the block off. Thats why I did it to begin with. I guess luck should be my middle name. If someone else trys my method and it works with no CEL, then I want some sort of internet payout. :D

There is no sensor in there. IT is a solenoid. It doesn't know if there is vacuum or not. It is just a vacuum switch controlled by electrical current. The ecu looks for a certain range of resistance in the circuit, if it is no there it will throw a cel. So basically just leave the solenoid plugged in and it will not throw a cel.

The ECU also doesn't talk and say things like "I think there's something wrong" ;) My simple language was meant to explain, not to go into the intricacies of exactly how it gets this information and processes it.

And, as has been seen by many with 420a's, if you just plug in your EGR with a block off plate, you will "normally" get a cel. Hence the reason that people install resistors (as pointed out in the links).

So can anyone put up a quick snapshot of how to block off the EGR or where exactly to put the plate!?!

I do not have the pic for the intake manifold block off, but you can imagine what it would look like from this one.

Do you think you can get me a diagram or pictures to see the process what exactly to take off and and what to leave plugged in...
