great bend, Kansas
bought a 97 eclipse, brought it home wouldnt start afer that. found out that the head was warped. first i wanna know if i can put a diffrent style head an what mods for a possible build. i want my gs to b all motor just faster than normal. any suggestions? lookin for all answers

well you can bore it out, also get adjustable cam's and advance your timing but you would need a good tune and a dyno. Also you can put a 4-2-1 exhaust and call it a day.

-Headers. (like said before 4-2-1 headers)
-Exhaust cat-back.
-Polyurethane Motor Mounts.
-ported TB.
-Cold air intake.
-Port and polishes head. Three/five angle valve job.
-Cams and adjustable cam gears.
-Lsd
-suspension(coil-overs)
-mega squirt

Im sure there are more things . --- MAINTENANCE.-----

would changing the head b a hassel to do at home in my garage or just have a shop do it?im willing to try.. the shop told me like 800$ to do it an i dont have that kinda cash to b wasting if i can just do it myself... also i found rust lineing the cylinder walls. what should i do to fix this? boring is probly an option but is it worth doing it or just puting a whole diffrent motor be better off?

and thanks for the replys guys i've been looking for answers for a while. this shop im dealing with wants me to buy a motor from them pricing at 1500$and another 700 in labor. im tired of gettin up n the morning an jus lookin at my car wonderin what i should do with it.

Pics of the "rust" in the cylinder walls. So you already have the head off the car??
And that's way too much for a 420a engine. And its a lil hight for labor..

i will get pics.. an yes waaaaaaaaaayyy to high for the shop to do it. will boring it out mean having to change the pistons etc?

Yes if you bore the cylinder to a larger size say .20 over. you will need pistons that are .20 larger. But dont get any cylinder bored without the piston first. It is best to get the cylinders bored to match the piston that is going into that cylinder instead of just getting it bored .20 over.

Can't believe you forgot to mention an underdrive pulley such as the AF/X one or the Unorthodox Racing One (currently run it myself biggest BANG for the buck only $250)

With the same car, and a time span of 6 weeks, I have:

DC sport 4-2-1 headers $285 ebay
Hi flow cat (no honeycomb) $26 on ebay (flanges are not offset like the stock flange)
magnaflow catback $400 ebay
Cold air intake $40 ebay
10.2mm ignition wires $45
NGK Iridium IX plugs $30
Power steering system removal and tube loop with some fluid drained $0
A/C system removal. $0

next I plan to get a udp and get a custom CAI setup.

Everything I did to my GS when I first bought it has been removed and the car is back to near-stock aside from a custom-built muffler. Even the cold air intake I added gave no noticeable improvement in power and actually hurt the fuel mileage to the point where it came off in a short period of time. Just throwin' that out there.

I've driven 365 miles since my last fill up...still have more than a half tank left :D

The last 65 miles were driven pretty hard too, so I'm not too worried ;)

Then again...I don't drive like the average driver most of the time...

I had the exact same experience with my gs. The 420a does not respond well enough to basic bolt ons to justify the cost of them. Either save $ and boost it or take the 600 you have for "mods" and maintence, sell your car and buy a 4g63.

LOL. I see you guys doubt...why don't you check out the link in my sig? ;)

..and if you still doubt, then I'll just have to give you a daily log (with pictures of my gauge and odo) of my trips for an entire tank. THEN call bs ;)

I had my heads done for my truck in KCMO and it cost 300 bucks. So just a guess but rebuild shouldnt cost more than a buck fifty. Just find a good machine shop and ask questions.

Yeah I'm still going to call bs which I don't normally do. Can you explain how you get more gas in your tank than it can even hold? 730 miles to one tank??? Just looking through your numbers and they don't add up.

For the record though, I hope you are right and I'm totally wrong and you could teach us some things.

so i found a diffrent motor for the car.. im gunna jus swap it. i figured i may as well do that instead of tryin to bore it. Ricardo is your eclipse pretty fast i kinda want that setup with the pully setup mentioned by boost. i want my car to b little bit faster but still n/a

Puuhhleeaazze do!
Because I'm alergic to bs, and exaggeration :)
My friends little 89 1.5 civic couldn't even get those numbers, and that thing sipped on gas. LOL
