I live in Maine and Irene is just gonna be a wind storm up here and everyone on my facebook is saying their going to go buy supplies.... In my opinion Maine has some of the WORST weather . Sure in the summer its lovely in 91 Maine was hit hard with hurricane bob. And in Im sure everyone knows of the maine ice storm of 98... If not here ya go.

Been through just about every hurricane, major and small, that has hit the gulf coast in the past 20-25 years. Worst one I've been through was Ivan, which was a Cat 4 when it hit, and we got the east of the eye, which is the worst part. There were in the hundreds of tornado's and twisters that touched down, and in the morning after you could tell. It looked like a giant came through and levelled everything. Outside the winds were howling so you couldn't get the full effect, until lightning flashed. Then you see this huge, 3 and 4 feet thick(and thicker) oat trees bending in the wind like a little sproutlet. Afterwords you see these same trees snapped literally like toothpicks.

Needless to say hurricane's don't really effect me anymore. I remember a childhood memory of Hurricane George hitting Florida, and it was a Cat. 3. Me and my siblings were all out swimming in the flood waters, haha.

It will be okay. calm down

Not sure if you got what i meant but , What i mean is its annoying, theres gonna be some wind and rain.. nothing like the news is saying..... BUT the news always blows things way out of proportion.

A guy i know moved Down to Nc from maine he just texted to a buddy of mine a few hours ago "Dont be a #### bro there just warm snow storms" , Made me laugh because its very true.

were im from i constantly get hit by storms. its so common to have a hurricane here that the news doesnt even bother anymore theyre just like ok folks we got another hurricane you know what that means! in other news...

little bit of wind is nothing to be worried about LOL and thats coming from someone who went thru hurricane andrew AND katrina

Well I live in Alabama, in one of counties that was hit hardest by the storms in April. Some of my neighboors house's look like crushed cracker boxes. The main city here was shutdown for like 2 weeks. We didn't have power (ran off a generator) for nearly a month. Most of the buildings in town are repaired now. But some of them that were completely leveled are just gone. The entire city just looks different. Big ass trees that were totally uprooted, The roof line is different. It just feels weird. That city was the same more or less my entire life, and now its like I don't even know the place I grew up in.

I've been through hurricanes, blizzards, -65 degree cold (Canada) and 130 degree heat in death valley, a few tornadoes, a water spout. Just about everything really.

We used to travel a lot when I was a kid plus I lived in Illinois and Florida.

I even got to go through a tropical storm while on a cruise.

I've even been through a few earthquakes, a mud slide, and a mini avalanche driving up a mountain.

Ice storm of 1998, lost power for 4 weeks. Started at the very end of December and went until mid January. Was in Brushton, NY where my mother lives. Up on the Canadian border of NY, just south of Montreal. I remember me and my sister used to ice skate on the lawn and to neighbors houses. Probably the same ice storm Mainer is referring too.

I live in NC - Hurricane Fran 1996.

Woke up in the morning and trees down all over. No power. I had a tank of gas and knew I had 10 gallons at the house in Southside va, about hour and 15 minutes away. Decided to go get my chain saw.

For the whole trip I had work my way around downed trees there was no power anywhere.
There was one city block in a small town across from a hospital that had power and gas station that was OPEN! This was the ONLY electricity that I saw for 70 miles. Filled up and finished the trip.

Most of the Raleigh Durham area had no power for about two days. A friend who lived just outside of the city area, was without power for two weeks.

Worst thing I saw was hurrcane Katrina. My house took 9-13 feet of water. Walked in and the ceilings were on the floor. I had kitchen Items floated to my bed room on the other side of the house and a shoe from my bed room floated into my kitchen how this is poscible I do not know. The water pushed in my back door. The fridge had about 10lbs of fish in it the smell was horendis. Some of the cars in my drive way were pushed 10-20 feet. Took me and my mother a week just to gut my house to the studs. I did not gut the garage I was using that for storage of the things I wanted to keep.

At my mothers house a tiny tornado went between her house and her neighbors home and tore down her fence and removed some of the neighbors siding. I Have seen houses that floated off their foundations and pushed as far as a mile.

a storm or an hurricane where I'm from, Puerto Rico, is just another excuse to get drunk and play dominoes...

Don't forget it's also an excuse to throw shit outside and watch it fly down the street. The one I was there for (I honestly don't know the name). That was pretty much all we did.ROFL

Just the past spring- massive tornado in Greensburg about 5 miles from my workplace. The hail that fell was bigger than I've ever seen in my area....it looked like large pieces of cauliflower. After the first wave of rain / wind / hail went through, it was literally so dark outside that it appeared night had fallen at 4pm.

Later we find out that a tornado definitely touched down in the area of Fort Allen.

I know this is routine for you guys in tornado alley, but we never see this shit in western PA. It was scary and intriguing!

I am laughing hardcore at the people in RI panicking about Irene.

We will see guts of up to 58 mph...whoopy! We saw those on a monthly basis when it rains or snows, considering we live on the ocean. Let me show you the stupidity of Rhode Islander's.

People are like that everywhere on the east coast...... their the same people who see some one pass them on the highway faster than them and say they are out of control.... You can blame the news as well putting all these storm warnings out. I have a feeling its all about money to TO bad I dont have stock in hostess !

The June 1st tornado in western MA ripped though the next town over from me and destroyed a few other local towns. I was literally 10 minutes ahead of it and less than a 1/4 mile away from it with my son shopping. The roads I actually took home that day were closed for a week cause the damage was so severe. We don't see shit like this around here so it def scared a lot of people. I was a lil pissed I was so close to it and missed seeing it LOL. I was 2 blocks away on the same road of that bridge you see in the video below literally 5-10 minutes before it touched down. I've seen many of blizzards in my day as well but those aren't scary to us new englanders LOL. It just means we're gonna have to go out and clean it all up :( Hurricane Gloria clipped us back in 85 but that didn't seem to scary to me. We'll see how Irene stacks up tomorrow but I'm not expecting it to be nearly as bad as these idiots on tv are making it out to be LOL.

All I know is this bi*** Irene just flooded my finished basement FML

I was still living in Guam at the time. I went through a couple typhoons. The one in 2002 Super Typhoon Pongsona was probably the worst one I've experienced. No power for months after that typhoon hit. Took down wood and metal electrical poles. (which also blocked off the main highways)

Typhoon Pongsona Slams Guam - YouTube

I did not make the video. If it doesn't work you can watch it directly on youtube.

If you watch the vid, towards the end you can see the damages it done to our island.

The funniest Typhoon I experience was in 1997, when Super typhoon Paka hit. I was watching from my window when we noticed this lady outside next to her car. It was kinda funny since it looked like she was washing her car during the storm, but i'm sure she wasnt :hmm:...............OMG................WTF?

Honestly some of the worst storms I've seen were from when I used to live in Florida. Watching trees being blown out of the ground, houses being demolished just miles from where I lived. I cannot forget how close Katrina got to me When it did a U turn and hit New Orleans. The countless floods and rescuing peoples belongings from cars that were sunk 4 feet under water.

I have just recently moved here to Nashville about 3 years ago. The floods that took out almost 3/4's of the city of Nashville was pretty intense to say the least! Spending a week indoors waiting on the rain to stop and paling water out of my garage for 6 hours a day was indeed a chore. I think we counted 163 gallons of water that week that we paled out easy!

After the rain subsided my fiance and I took a walk to observe any damage around the neighborhood and noticed not even 100 yards from my home, a neighborhood across from mine that resided down hill from us was literally 12 feet under water. For weeks I would drive by and see houses being torn inside out junk and flooded belongings sitting out in yards, people sitting outside practically homeless and signs posted from these home owners that said "thanks for taking all that I have!" It really was gut wrenching.

the river next to my house is flooded out and filling my nahbors basments i had to move my car up to the shelter ### half my driveway is under water and we're not done yet the eye is gonna hit use dead on in about 2 hours...deff the worst iv seen sence 91

This hurricane came in with a whimper and left with a whimper, what a pathetic storm.

I agree 100% by the time it hit me the winds were so weak I swear I've farted harder than them LOL.
