Glad to hear you made it home without falling asleep Mike. I hate that feeling and I knew you were going to be dead ass tired down the last stretch.:| Anyway, it was nice meeting you and I hope to see you again next year.:) Also, can't wait for your pics.:D

The first run was nice -- I dont appreciate the puerto rico flag flying of the chute... I didn't see a reason why we needed the rest of them. I would have been SUPPER pissed if that thing sprayed oil on the track and caused a delay.

He was there running the test and tune to get his NHRA license. Now most people don't know what that means, because they do not have a sub 10 second car or know what is required to run a professional drag car. I can promise you that these teams have thier shit together and the likelyhood of them oiling down the track is less then anyone of the street cars wreckng or oiling down the track. I true drag racer can and will appreciate and respect and well built car. As far as and flag.. so what. As far as people with them...all of them were involved in getting that car where it is now in some way or another. Besides whats the difference with his 10 crew members and the 500 nut swinggers that ran up to the line when Shep made his pass? Most of them only know the name not the man.

Why is no one complaining about the other non 4g cars running? Or is it ok because it was Shep? Just wondering.

read the whole thread? I mentioned EVERY NON 4G CAR PERIOD (including sheps gtr)

The diff between the Shep "nut swingers" and the other crew is... its a eff'n DSM, its the reason we were there..Im surprised you seriously need this explained... why the hell wouldn't we run to the line? Who cares if they know the name and not the man (all tho Shep is far and wide the single most followed and well known DSM'er in existence).. I know of at least 10 people who attended the shootout solely to see Shep's car run and no other reason.

I dont give a crap about this teams NHRA license.. I didnt pay my hard earned money to follow there career. Im sure there a GREAT team and there car is TOP NOTCH.

As i said.. i was fine with 1 pass.. thats all it should have taken.

regarding the flag: again.. for the 10th time.. I'm entitled to my own opinion, as i am entitled to my own opinion when it comes to non 4G cars running.

Back in the earlier shootout days..it was 4g Powered or nothing..I just miss the old days in the regard is all.

Sandra, please dont read this in an angry tone, i not trying to come off that way... ty :)

I'm not taking it personally... We are cool. It's just that many people are unaware of requirements. To get you license you have to make 6 passes that are wittnessed and signed off by 3 already licensed drivers. It's not as simple as going out and making a pass.

Dave opened the test and tune to anyone so everyone should take thier beef up with him, not here.

Personally I am disappointed that I paid my money to see two final cars put it all on the line to come out as the winner. I think it was a punk move for two brothers to split the pot to save car parts. I want a refund. If it were any two other cars that shit wouldn't have happened.

Track rental or not, signed waiver or not, people along the jersey wall all the way to the finish line is not cool. The track and Dave should have put thier foot down and stopped all racing until they moved. I don't want to see any driver or spectator injured.

Sounds like you should take those issues up with Dave, not here. See how hypocritical you sound.

That was a joke. There's no crying in racing. I was just stating that that was more important to me then other issues. Like someone already said "that's just my opinion". And opinions are a dime a dozen.

As far as taking it up with Dave, maybe I already have voiced my opinion. The shootout is more then just one car that doesn't belong (opinion), or one race that should have happened (another opinion). It's the whole ####ing weekend that makes the shootout what it is. You can't please everyone all the time, but I believe that most people that participated in any of the weekends events was happy and WILL return. I have never heard anyone say that they would never come back.

It was good to meet you Mike! My wife and I met you while we were admiring the gvr4. Think I could almost talk her into one after she saw yours haha! Glad you made it home, looking forward to seeing the pics.

hhaha thats awesome, glad you liked it man. hopefully you can talk her into getting one.

yeah that drive was crazy long man, i was all doing that thing jum carey did on dumb and dumber where he felt lik he was running at an incredible rate! LOL

Wow... that's quite the trip! Glad you made it back! :)

Thanks, yeah I was Officially the only DSM/VR4 guy that came all the way from cali. and i think i was the cleanest VR4 out there aswell.

Sandra,
I see you guys made it back ok, It was nice hanging with you and your crew at the campground. I can't wait to see the 4g toyota in action. (maybe at etown in october?) I know me and you discussed the safety with the hole thing with people up against the wall and you know my view and I know yours. I saw one girl sitting on the wall with her legs crossed and I wanted to say something to her but it wasnt my place. she even had her back to the cars. I've already voiced my concern on here about it on an earlier post but I've also seen videos of racing at southern tracks were this exact issue happens all the time. This will continue until someone gets hurt. Its sad but thats how it goes.
I think its just as dangerous standing two feet from the burnout box when your having 700-800hp rwd cars rolling through. if a tire explodes we where all getting an earful and a facefull. I think that this is also what draws so many people to the shootout. getting up close and personal with the cars they see in magazines and the famous names they see advertised in the forums.
I DO NOT AGREE WITH THE SPLIT PURSE! It should have been ran all out. Let the winner split the winnings after the race, even if the one brother made it look like he broke.

As far as the flock of people running to see Shep run. Sadly I missed both of them. You can call me a nut swinger but I think I drove a little faster to get to the track on sunday just because I knew shep was going to be there with the talon. It was my first time seeing that car in person and besides, where else can you see a 7 second AWD car?

Im not trying to come off like an a$$ either, the way I see it we are just all talking like we would be if we were in a circle at a local car meet.

Mike,
Glad to hear you made it home. People say dsms are unreliable, I think the owners are just unreliable.
As far as name tags or t-shirts or writing on the windshield of your car that says who you are from the forums. I'm for it.

well the uploader i was using stopped working, just using this to test the new uploader.

It was great meeting and talking to you and I look forward to seeing you at Atco and E-town. You are always welcome in our pits. I don't remember if it was E-town or Atco but 2 months ago we saw a car end on it roof just past the starting line. He was doing a burn out and lost control. No one ever expected that but luckily there were not hundreds of people standing there.

Hey its cool, maybe you can see Sheps car at the World Cup Finals at Budds Creek in November. It is a must not miss event". The corolla WILL be there no matter what. We would like to have it at E-town but not sure that will happen.

At every shootout it is our goal to meet at least one person to form a long term friendship and this year I think you are that person.... :):thumb:

Mike,

It is good you and your VR4 made it home in one piece but I know a certain someone that made it ALL possible and I haven't heard a public thanks to him at all. That VR4 wouldn't have made it farther East than the CA border if he hadn't helped you the day before you left, I think you should give credit when credit is due. Don't you?
(unless I missed it in the previous 18 pages somewhere)

Sounds like #19 was a good one, theres noway I'm missing #20!

:dsm:

Public thanks???

WTF

I guess the that physical in person thanks isn't good enough these days. Are you trying to tell me to thank Kris publicy if so, what's it to you?

But on a side note Kris (banishedmunk) did in fact help me out with the car alot. I would like to add that the problems that happened during the trip were not his fault though. Just incase y'all may think that. So there's the "public thanks" haha.

Sandra,
I thought we were friends before this years shootout? I met you guys 2 years ago at the shootout but my group didnt get to socialize to much because we were to busy sleeping all weekend after getting in so late when we got to ohio. I even bought a t-shirt from you guys one year but I dont remember if I did that at e-town or at Norwalk. I remember seeing you guys last year and the year before at e-town and Im pretty sure you had the white 1g but were having some sort of ecu issues. I'd like to go to more dsm events this year but my drag racing weekends are limited. Sep. 11 is ol' daze drags at island dragway and i may be running my old small block swapped vega and then IM trying to get a timeslip on the talon and may run it at englishtown. When I'm at englishtown I may be getting in touch with dogbox again to get a good trans put under the hood of the talon since a stage 1 just isnt cutting it

Hey guys. For those that are interested in the Englishtown dsm evo wrx sti shootout I have started a thread specifically for it. We have about 2 months to plan for it. This track is only 2 hours from me as oppose to ohio at a wopping 7hour drive.
