Well i noticed that there is a tock at the start of the motor. im not sure what it is. I think it might be a lifter. Now is this bad if i let it go or should i get around to looking at it?

i use mobil 1 synthetic 10w-30. only upgrades for now are a cold air intake cat back exhaust and a filter on the vc breather. ill shoot a vid here in a minute. its almost always on start up an i drove home from school (about a 5 minute drive through town) and when i got home it still ticked. the night before it did it on start up and i cruized around for about 2 hours and it didnt tick when i got home. well anyways going to take a vid ill post it asap

Lifter tick? - YouTube

okay the spark plugs have burns on the tip the part that goes down first. I took off the oil cap and a little bit of smoke came out. i dont know what the heck is going on

I'll bet it's ticking you off :D.

Does it go away after the car warms up? Did you recently change your oil?

If you take the vacuum line off your valve cover do you smell burnt oil?

Well, if it's lifter tick, nothing bad is going to happen to your car if you let it sit over time like that.

Most of us have a lifter tick, and it drives us crazy but what can you do..

I change my oil with 10w-30 Ultra synthetic and that quiets it down a good bit.. But if you swap cams or anything, replace your lifters with the 3g lifters (3rd generation lifters, not the 3g eclipse lifters ;))

Okay so i just talked to my buddy and he said im fine but if it gets louder to take it to him asap for new lifters. I aslo changed the oil about 3 weeks ago with 10w30 synthetic mobil 1. changed the spark plugs. checked them today and they are like burnt they are coated in black. so im guessing its to much fuel which also my buddy told me. im going to get ngk platinum spark plugs to see if they are better then the autolite or whatever they are called.

Don't use platinum on a turbo car.

I'm not a clairvoyant, but it's time to get a stethoscope or long screwdriver and put it to your ear and see if the knocking is coming from the block, because that sounds a lot like a spun bearing.

BTW you can swap out the lifters WITHOUT removing the head. Its even easier on stock head with stock springs.

No, that it is exactly lifter tick. My old Talon sounded the same way until I swapped out my lifters because almost all of them had gone "bad."

100% agree ^^^ its the lifter. my buddy checked and its totally normal. if it starts gettin worse or just bug me to much im going to get new ones.

What is this nonsense? Since when did it matter what springs or what head you ran to determine how easy it is to change lifters? The lifters aren't under the springs.....

Anyways....that video you posted op is in fact lifter tick....It may sound odd and off the wall but i tried running 10w40 instead of 10w30 in my car and it seemed to help them out just a little bit....

also you don't have to just run bpr6es....I actually gave some iridium plugs a shot in my old gst and they worked like an effin charm....they are a copper cored plug with a platinum center diode....

I am ###### gonna get flamed for this post...but hey! I wouldnt advise something I never tried myself =]

Is that video with the oil cap off or do you have some different than stock oil cap? BEst to have it on for the listen to.

As for thicker oil, that at first seems to quite it but in the long term makes it worse. Run half a quart of MMO in your oil 300 miles before the next oil change. Helps to clean out the lifetrs; those little holes on the top are so small thicker oil and/or dirty oil can't get thru hence the ticking.

If you want; add half quart of MMO in the new oil also. Then half at next toil change again. At this point it should get quiter.
