the hump is not needed, you can find non-hump hoods on ebay, and the 420a, the cams are on the opposite side and dont get in the way as well with the 1.8 the cams are on the opposite side of the 4g63. so the 4g63 cams dont cause interference with the hood, with or with out the hump.

The hump in the hood is not needed on a 420a or a 1.8 ... but on a 4g63/4g64(w/ DOHC cam head) the hump is indeed necessary..... If you do not have it you will your timing cover/timing belt will rub the hood..eventually causing it to snap the belt....

This is a fact I learned the hard way years ago ago... It took roughly 50 miles on a brand new MHI timing belt to snap...

what about the invader cf hoods? Those don't look like they have a hump?

I've never seen one personally but maybe they're skeleton underneath is arrange in a way to allow it to clear...My experience on the timing belt snapping was a 1.8 1g hood on a 2.0 turbo 1g car.. (the 1ga 1.8's came w/ no hump from the factory)

No there is no groove or anything for rain as im not to worried about it cause the worst it can so is drop onto the manifold which is coated so no worries there, It is just like the Evo 8/9 hood basically

WTFIt looks crooked

Its just the hump in the hood that makes it look that way.... Look at the picture from the back and you can see that the fin on the far back driver side has a bigger gap as it had to bend to the vent...

Here is a little air dam I made real quick for the radiator to snag some more air... Im doing all I can to keep this thing COOL(You can also see my 1 and only fan SPAL 1630 CFM push style) :hellyeah:

Also what color should I do the hood with the rain guard/vent?
-Gloss black with Gloss black vent
OR
-Gloss black hood with Flat black vent

Why are you running just 1 pusher fan? Puller fans flow more than pusher fans. If you run 2 good puller fans and make a sealed duct from the FMIC through to the radiator, it will help more than your 1 pusher and the scoop.

And that scoop between the FMIC and radiator will reduce the amount of air flowing through the FMIC. But your FMIC is probably bigger than it needs to be (like many DSMers) so you can probably get away with that.

Would LOVE to see that made for our cars as well. I dislike the current Seibon/VIS EVO ones cause they look so out of place, and sit so high.

*Edit*

Actually, after looking at it a bit, I guess it's normal as the original evo's sit kinda high too and flow's with the car. Just don't like how it flow's with dsm's ;x

It sits high to clear our cam gears, no one will be able to make a hood that sits level with our fenders, unless they cut a hole for their cam gears

Yes it is(VRSF FMIC kit)

The 1 pusher is all I figure im going to need at 1630cfm and I have it as a pusher cause there is no room for puller fan because the Evo 9 turbo and custom manifold...

Im hoping that with the SPAL 1630cfm fan set to come on at a lower temp, a 160deg thermostat, the vent/rain guard in the hood, Coated exhaust manifold, o2 housing, downpipe, and the ducting for the radiator it will all work out to keep my temps below 200 on a hot day(will be all together next week and suppose to be 95+deg)... Next step is just a alum radiator if needed

GIXRMAN you were the start of my hood my hood vent and then I wanted to do something a little different but.still functional so I can up with this.... I love the hood you did but trying to be a little different with the same effect so this is what I've got

Still needs to be wetsanded and buffed but at 1230 I was tired of dealing with the car.... Looks good for me not being a painter/body guy I think.... Will have better pictures tonight

oh and also is there a hood for our cars that dont have that hump or do we absolutly need that hump because of our cams?

You can probably find a "high rise" style hood, EVO style. Where instead of a single hump, the whole hood is raised in the middle. Without a 4g63 the hump is not needed. But it is one of the identifying marks of a DSM. To each his own I guess.

If I had the money i would have gotten the Evo style carbon hood but like most DSM owners I'm broke and prefer to do it myself for my own style...

It is directly over the manifold/turbo and not over the valve cover since I wanted to keep it away from the spark plugs. So far it looks half way decent and cost me $50 and a few days of work

If it look bad when he car is all back together ill save up but until then I like it and like Blue Talon Boy said, the hump is DSM so why get rid of it...

Do you mean pull the way he has his fans, or pull the way the stock fans are?

He was talking about 2 fan that pull from the engine size of the radiator(just like stock). Having 2 or even 1 pull fan on the front of the radiator would not help at all and would accually hurt!

Here is a little bit better picture of the hood in the daytime....

A pusher fan pushes through the radiator (fan is on the front of the radiator). A puller fan pulls the air through the radiator (fan is behind the radiator, on the engine side).

Yes puller fans move more air. Pusher fans are nice because they give you more room under the hood, and clean things up a bit.

i like the vents being gloss, it makes it look really clean, and looks less crooked from the bump too. good job man, thats some creativity and skill.

Love it. I don't even see this as function over form. Its a badass racecar-style mod which functions. I see it and in my head there is no debate about if it looks good enough. Its awesome. When I see a mod like this that is actually useful and going to be used for its purpose and not for looks only I can't help but feel a little pride in the DSM community.

neat project...always fun to see other peoples ideas.

i bet it looks better than in the pics...flat black hood may look better - idk.
