1g with not original motor

Today I was planning on taking a little trip to look at a 90 eagle talon 4g63t AWD 5speed for sale. The body has 55,000 miles on it with little to no rust. The motor has been replaced with another 6bolt of unknown miles by the previous owner. I dont think its been rebuilt. Its sitting on ebay springs and he has a intercooler he wants gone with the car. He told me that the BOV is not recirculated and its hard to start when cold. From what I know the BOV not recirculted will make the car run rich and foul up the plugs. Will this cause any major damage or is this minor? Also what else should I look for in terms of the motor being properly installed? He knows nothing of DSMs and is asking 1800 for it. I would say my knowledge is 6.5 out of 10 LOL

If you want to know the condition of the motor, have a compression test done on all the cylinders. This will give you the best idea of the condition of the motor. Idealy you would want to see a reading of around 150 psi in all the cylinders.

As for what to look for in a proper installation, just make sure all the bell housing bolts, motor/tranny mounts bolts are there. The critical fasteners.

The BOV not being recirculated shouldnt cause any serious long term damage. But definitely hook it back up and change the plugs if you get the car. With those low miles and little rust, it sounds like a pretty good deal. And like MadTech said, check for missing bolts. You can tell when someone did a good job on something when it looks like nothing has been done at all.

So I went and looked at the car yesterday which turned out to be an all day nightmare. Long story short it was a complete waste of life. I show up and the guy talks to me and then leaves and tells me to deal with his dad and the title is in the glove box.

??? Im like ok Ill look it over and start it take it for a drive and then deal with all that. Nope. Cant even get it to idle for 5mins. Oil is on everything in the engine there are vac lines capped with screws random wires hanging around in the engine bay. Complete disaster. So ill call him and he says you just have to give it gas. WOW! Anyway I told him Im taking the mishimoto intercooler that was in the trunk to pay for my gas to look at this pos he said ok and I left. O well guess Ill keep looking

Sorry I was still angry when I posted I took the intercooler. He let me have it for 75 with a no name BOV. And to be perfectly honest I drove 3 1/2 hours to look at a "perfectly" running car with a new motor that was built by a guy who has had around 14 dsms. Id say I wasted all of the money I spent on gas when the car was nothing of what he said. Im not trying to look like a dishonest thief on here because Im not. Im here to learn and try and make a couple friends and coming off like I took a part over gas money is not what I intended. I just want a 1g awd 5speed and havent had any luck finding a good one at a price I can afford.
