is anybody running this kit on a 1g? pics would help lots. i want to know whether i should buy the DIY kit or go with the 90-94 specified kit. i have ABS soi want to know which kit would fit more properly thanks!

I would just get the 1g specified kit. I don't think the do it yourself kit comes with a bov flange on any of the pipes it comes with. Another downside is that you have to put the puzzle together to get the pipes to fit, You also end up with extra stuff you won't need most likely. Again as always that is just my personal opinion. Good luck!! Another thing is to double check your spelling and punctuation to the best of your knowledge before you post.

You'r better to buy un bolt on kit like Kinetic or ETS. It's very easy to install and you have all what you need. Don't forget that those kit are short route !!!

Agreed! Every time I see a intercooler thread I always post about the ETS intecooler kit. No one ever goes with yea. Yea I know its really expensive, more than double in some cases, but the quality and fitment is unsurpassed. As a consumer and the fact that I have used both kits before, I would say the ETS far exceeds any FMIC kit 1g DSM have on the market.

I have pictures posted all over the website of the ETS kit installed on my car. Some in my profile I think.

There is a reason the ETS kit costs more, because it's a clearly better intercooler. However, the days of old have passed, no one cares about getting the most from what they have, all they see is the numbers next to the dollar sign and the words "it has worked just fine for me" from the people who come in to defend these eBay kits.

The short and narrow of it all is this, people who have used both a quality core and an eBay core will always tell you to go with the quality kit. The people who have ever only bought the cheap stuff will tell you it works fine for them and to them works fine is the same as works great.

Quality can be defined by fin density, more or less. The more fins in the intercooler, the more surface area that is used to absorb heat from the air that passes through it. The result is better IATs, in some cases IATs that don't rise above ambient, or barely rise above ambient temperatures which will naturally lead to better power.

Basically you want a Garrett core or something designed similar. I can promise you that the PR kit, and eBay intercoolers are low density (less fins). Some people say the VRSF isn't a low density cooler, but no one has provided pictures of the internal allotment of fins to prove this.

I can provide pictures if need be.

I'm not trying to be a d**k. I'm not even in the market for a FMIC. I have a Hahn Racecraft big SMIC and it's more than adequate for my FP Big T28. Like I said I'm just curious. I've never seen comparison pictures between different types of FMICs so I welcome pictures.

I know you aren't trying to be a dick, just trying to be as informative as possible for you. Here is some pictures:

That is from a local forum provided by turbobrian, who is a member here and owns Dynotech Tuning.

i see i see!! Thanks for that bit of info!
You don't happen to have on of the VRSF core? That is the kit i talked my brother into getting and the one i've been planning on getting!
I know ETS are worth the money, i just don't have the money to spend on such a kit, plus my goals aren't but for a little extra power! (325-350ish hp)

I wish I had a picture of the VRSF core from the inlet or outlet, unfortunately I don't. And of those who have one and I have asked for the picture, they can't provide one because the way the inlet and outlet come off the tanks, it is at an angle that does not allow a camera to capture a picture.

I would be interested in if someone who has taken the tanks off, or if Tiago himself would post a picture pre-tanks being welded on, in seeing the density of those fins. If it is a high density design, I would personally recommend for their kit to each and every person.

Interesting. I like information. I've never looked inside my Hahn SMIC. the second pic of the Greddy type looks just like the fins in my Fluidyne radiator. So both ICs use bar and plate construction?

Edit:

Sorry for some reason I thought you were talking about the mounting solution. Yes a Garrett intercooler is a bar and plate intercooler.

I run the ets but if your on a budget and dont want to spend that much i would use either im not sure about the pressure drop but if your only looking to make like 325ish both the punishment or vrsf would be fine. its really your personal preference. VRSF is a short route so you will have to modify your radiator supper on the passenger side.

thanks guys for all that info. i am kind of on a budget but if saving cash for a little longer means ill be getting better results then i guess ill do that.
