I do admit that I am very new to the forums, I've had my 98 eclipse for 1 month and 1 day so far, bought it used from a person who did horrible work making additions to the car (the radio almost caught fire because a speaker wire was run under the seat track, got crushed and shorted out) so I will have better questions in the near future as I work to restore and build this car up. A couple weeks ago I was very fortunate to meet a guy that helped me to identify a lot of things to work on on the car and he reccomended that I come here to meet people and learn stuff. I've been browsing and searching and finding a lot of very useful information, but one question that I feel silly for not knowing is what does "DSM" mean?

It stands for Diamond Star Motors. It is the joint venture between Mitsubishi, who's emblem is the diamond triangle, and Chrysler motors, who's emblem is the penta-star. Diamond Star... get it???

Time to get on Wiki and read as much as you can about it. The reason why they call it a 4G64, 4G63 etc. The history behind the Mitsubishi racing legacy is some quite interesting material. I recommend taking the time and reading up on it. It doesnt hurt to be educated about your car for better understanding and diagnosing in the future, and its all free.

Good luck with your restore

Lol, along with all the hateful meanings given for DSM, I saw one I liked recently.

Domestic Slaying Machine :D

Im really not trying to be a jerk, because I just became a member myself, but when you register, that is the only ? they ask that isnt about you or your car. You have to answer that ? to be a member in other words.

Same here back in '02, when I got my first Eclipse-a 1991 base automatic for cheap.. for I though Eclipses were built in Japan until I found out a bit later that they were built in the States by "Diamond Star Motors" .. like 'what the flip is this company?' 'Never heard of them..!"

9 yrs later: I still have that '91 - now with over 200k miles on it.

Lol. You should have searched before posting. I admit you have balls though.
