i recently just purchased a 2.3 stroker kit from jackson auto machine. i have a 97 GS-T. ive been trying to research a turbo set up but there are millions to choose from. wonder if you guys could help me in the right direction. i know i have to upgrade the fuel and many other things. im looking for 450whp where the turbo kicks in at low rpms. should i be looking at divided or undivided housing with what numbers and also external wastegate on the manifold or o2housing?

Fast spooling and able to put out the numbers, HX35. You can get a BEP housing for mitsu-flanged or a T3 option. I have a friend who's running an HX35 on FP manifold and PR o2 w/ 38mm Tial EWG.

HX35 will get you your goal and do it reliably.

What fuel are you planning on running? E85? Pump?

Is your mod list all you have so far, on your page?

Yea the Hx35 is a great turbo and has early spool. An o2 housing wastegate would be fine. I would recommend e85 too. Good luck!

I think you can get to your number with a 20g. But check out fp's turns.(forced performance)
Thay have some kick a** turbos. Thay have a kit for 2k too.

I'd vote a 68HTA or even Evo 3 16G (E85) if you really wanted to do this, but I think you're going to hate the build when it's done. 2.3L with a quick spooling turbo for a torque-heavy 400 WHP on your FWD is going to suck.

So then, you're saying that your choice you are contributing is bad?. . . ok then. :)

OP, the 20g or fp68hta costs far more. The 16g costs too much to get there. The spool speed of an hx35 is controllable with the throttle plate. Torque controlle, or ve control, is a wonderful thing. . .

Yes, but only because the set parameters were bad to begin with! My contribution is dead on for what OP wants - or think he/she wants.

You do have a valid point. But that's also where suspension comes in. Tire selection and the right selection will help that "problem."

No, a hard hitting (all in a 3300rpm rush) evo16g or ferociously hitting fp68hta is not what his FWD needs. . . He needs control. . . Seams like you've never driven or been around these turbos. . . I hope that's not the case. One must contribute their knowledge; not their speculation.

i plan on running pump gas. what do u need to bolt on a hx35. i know they sell bullseye turbine housing but would i be able to use my evo III 02 housing with that. is there any benifit of running the wastegate on the 02 housing or manifold?

Get the 20g if you can afford it.. Id personally go with the hx35 like dsm-onster is saying.. The big 16g/evo3 16g turbos hit really early and hit really hard it would make the wheel spin really bad without tires/suspension..
I can rip them in a 3rd gear pull if there is even a little amount of water on the ground.. Kinda scary when the a$$ end of an AWD car starts catching up with the front end LOL.. I no longer try and have fun in the rain:(..
Oh i run the big 16g right now and it rips hard my evo3 i had on before ripped even harder JFYI

I would say go with a turbocharger that has more support from vendors in the DSM community like a BWS256ETT. It is a very solid turbocharger that flows the same if not better than the HX35. Also, you can still buy them new and they are definitely proven to work. I have seen more than a few high HP cars running BW turbochargers.

I've always loved the fpgreen but the hx35 has really proved to be a solid turbo and for the price you couldn't ask for more.

On a side note I saw this a while back on it's performance. It's for a 5-6.5 litres and output is only 100-280hp :p

so how can people have 400hp on these turbos, is it not safe?. are there any dsm vendors that sell brand new hx35

The only place you can buy a new HX35 would be a Cummins dealer, and the only place you can buy a turbine housing to make it fit your car is from Bullseye Power or one of their dealers.

To install one of these turbos on your car is sort-of a pain in the ass because you can't just buy the turbo, housing, and all of the parts to install it at one place....but it's quite worth the hassle, as others have mentioned.
