Ok I just got offered a deal for a new motor. One little thing though it's a Honda 3.5 liter v-6 out of a 2010 Honda pilot. All I got was the block and heads. Anyways long story short motor is in good shape and it's producing 250 HP and 253 Torque stock. I want some input of what y'all think. I have contacted my local shop that I trust my work with. They are preparing for the build if I decide to go through with it. The plan is to build it up from the floor up. The dream is to build up a 700hp DSM but am I fully nuts for this thinking???

Complete and utter waste of money...but it is your money.

Go for it, be different. You'll hear negative no matter what you do in life. But just prepare your self for what your doing. Know that no one has done this. So if your doing so please share all info with us just so we know how much money you dump into. Good luck

I like the idea of a Honda engine in a DSM. I have seen Hondas with DSM drivetrains but never the other way around... Giv it a shot, but if your goal is 700hp, that can be done with the 4G63.

Mech

Like what was mentioned before, use the 4g63 power plant. Brent Rau's 4 cylinder is putting out 1030 WHP. So as long as you take your time and do things right, you will be able to accomplish whatever goal you set for yourself. Also why would you want to put a honda engine in a DSM?? Thats like putting a Briggs and straton in a truck expecting it to pull something in my opinion. :D Just playing, whatever you decide good luck on the build.

Im sorry I guess I should have read you profile before posting anything, If I were you I would want to ditch the 420A myself, but again I have read a lot about guys posting some really good numbers with the 420A as long as you prepare it first for the punishment it will take, (pistons, crank, bearings ect.) And again good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Well I have a stock 420a sitting in storage that I was bout to start putting together. My mother just passed away this past week so I came home for the week. That's when all this started. My friend had the motor and offered it to me as a joke he thought it would be funny to see a DSM with a Honda motor. I laughed bout it later on went home and wound up looking into the motor specs an it has serious potential. Basically same weight as mine but gains two cylinders as well as a hundred horses. Next day I called the shop and my guy was very interested in it he said for the price I could buy it for would be worth looking into the build. 300 for motor and heads,2000 for install and roughly 3-4000 for motor parts an upgrades to internals.... Not bad seeing how I was bout to snatch out my other motor which has just given me to many problems. The spare motor I had was going to take a bunch of work to get it perfect again. This is all from scratch an is fully original an the 700hp I want is the safe goal I really want at least 800hp. I will keep y'all posted with all the details and pictures just keep giving ideas and thoughts please

that could be a good setup to run dual 20g's on and make close to that goal and spool wouldnt be sacrificed too badly because of the larger displacement. You would be able to spool a single large turbo faster than any dizzum ever has. Could have its perks but depending on how much they are planning on charging could become unrealistic hastily.

..just gonna have to beef up the suspension with the added weight. Big thing: is the block the same or shorter length than the stock motor you plan on putting this motor in? You gotta think about motor height to clear the hood, or modify the hood to accept what need to be cleared, electronics, motor mounting, et.al. ....

(I, at one time, had a wild hair crawling up where the sun doesn't shine to put a 6G72 (3.0L V.6) under the hood of a DSM that had the 4G37 (1.8L) mated to the F4A22 auto transmission and knowing that they'll bolt up with no problems, but quelled that idea of knowing how much modifications that has to be done to make it work...thus, got rid of that hair pretty quick..)

Can't say it's an impossibility to do such a feat, but if you got plenty of green lining all of your pants pockets and don't care where it goes, then good luck with the project and keep us informed of all the details on how it's going.

DSM

I'm curious if you were thinking of running a DSM drivetrain, and making the v-6 mate up somehow, or going with the matching transmission as well. (I assume since you're currently rocking a 420A, that you aren't planning to do an AWD drivetrain, correct me if i'm wrong)

well as far as that goes you might as well do the s2000 cluster mod and could you mount the s2000 trans up to it just curious and make it rear wheel drive just some suggestions to check out.

Thanks bout my mom. Yes I have thought a little bout the drivetrain and suspension. The original drivetrain that came in it was a 5-speed automatic that was the only option. I am looking into what I can do to it using the Honda accord that also had that motor. As far as suspension the motor is going to be cradled by custom motor mounts. I'm going to be doing more research into my options for suspension. I want an aggressive stance but I do not want to suffer every time I see a dip in the road. So I got a lot to figure out still

All that weight in the front is going to put off your suspension geometry and affect your handling, just something to take into consideration.

Also, I don't know how much your shop is going to charge you for this, but this seems like a big project, and big dollars... Might as well go with a V8 at that point, no? If I was to go all out on a crazy swap like that; I wouldn't cheap out on the engine.

But like said before, it's your money & your car... Please post pictures of the progress etc. and good luck.

(Edit: oh, and go RWD for sure... I don't see that being FWD.)

The shop I use are some close friends that I have made since being in Tn for work. I talked to some local mechanics back in MS bout install price. Everyone I talked to said that for them to touch it and make it all work with no performance just making it a stock v6 would run me 7-8500 just to do that with me already having purchased the parts to make it happen an getting the motor mounts made... That's a big ouch! The shop in TN is doing everything as far as I know for less. I have to talk with them more when I get up there and let them brain storm it and figure out what we can do. As soon as that happens I will let y'all know what the verdict is if he says it's worth it we will do it. Those folks at McClain automotive have really shot me straight from the hip they tell how much it will honestly cost and give me the truth wether it's a fools errand or if it's a good project. I think this is going to be a ton of work even more research and plenty of head aches if it does get the green light but I think it will work out well and I will have a head turner for sure. However I am only posting pictures of under the hood here and out in public I'll just let folks dwell on what is tearing up the pavement that hard LOL.

A 6g75 3.8L from the new galant will drop into a 420a equipped car with no modifications to the mounts....

As long as you use the a604 transmission from a V6 avenger.

You can use an a543 5 speed transmission, but all 3 transmission mounts will have to be fabbed.

In short, it'll be easier to use a 6gXX motor.

I wanted to put the 3.8L into a good N/T shell. A 250whp N/A eclipse would be a surprise to some. But I like the avenger more, and that would be a surprise to most.

This is the j series right? We are getting ready to swap one into my buddies 94 civic. They can make some good power. I think it would be awsome to see it in a dsm. What are your plans for the hood? We are cutting out a portion of the hood for the intake mani to fit. Also there is a company that makes a plug and play tucked wiring harness that would clean up the bay a little. Its 500 bucks tho:/

Can u get me some info on that harness like where I can find it. It is also a j series motor. Also I been trying to get some performance parts. I am having such a hard time finding them do you have any good sites to find stuff.

..just too bad that DSM's are all unibody type instead of body-on-frame where this sort of project would really benefit from.

That unibody is gonna do some serious flexing with that extra weight up in the front end-gonna have to figure out a way to keep it from flexing...and I can easily recommend RWD with this, so the motor can sit behind the front axles so your center of balance isn't so wigged out lopsided crazy.

Do a quick search on the 4g63 pretty sure it's the most powerful 4cyl out there and very affordable !

^^This sounds like a good alternative.
But if ucan get the Honda motor for cheap, might aswell use it. Just make sure u make it a 5 speed.
I have seen a few 3.2L Integras online. They are bad*ss.
