I don't think I would eliminate it completely. This is my opinion:

The line out front is the power steering cooler. You can eliminate it safely.

The reson for me to do all of this lines is to hide them as much as possible, I'm trying to avoide having to use a cooler.
I just whanted to know for sure it's safe to be removed or if I just replace it with the extended braded line coming off the rack.

I believe it's safe to remove the power steering cooler. Often people remove it to fit their fmic.

If you're going to autocross or something in that sort. I would probably think otherwise.

no autocross for me but it will e my dd and weekend track.

hey guys here are some updates nothing big just my new power steering pump

hey every one i just want to keep every one updated on my project, i have not done anything as i have been searching info on the power steering cooler.
if any one has any info on the power steering cooler line on if it can be removed?
there's any draw backs?
or if it will cause any problems.

all information is welcomed.

if i don't come across some hard info regarding this matter my next step will be to weld a fitting on the power steering line cooler on the end that connects to the power steering rack and call it a day.

does any one know if the line is aluminum or ss?

Always this route, air cooled electric pump :sneaky:

I ran my car without it for a couple days before i blew up the car. Worked fine. Setrag makes a cooler you can use. Im relocating the reservoir to where the ABS was and it would be a short distance you through a cooler in front of it.

BTW, where did you get the lines, which ones are they, and how many feet did you need?

I found a Setrab oil cooler on E.bay. It measures about 8"x 2"x2". It is mounted on the lower left side from the radiator . I also installed all JIC fittings and black SS hose thought out the hole system. I have SS hose from the tank to the pump ,the rack and the cooler. You can see some photos in my gallery.

the lines and fittings i got it all from AN Plumbing Earls Fitting, Earls Plumbing AN Hose, Fuel Management
the fittings have to be teflon hose ends and with high pressure teflon hose.
its was 7 feet of line and its plenty.

as for the cooler i was thinking removing it or using it.
and using a after market cooler for the rack is not a option for me.

Dsm810z...
any info on this pump?
or where i could get something like this?

If you want to get a cheap cooler go to a junk yard and pull an automatic transmission cooler. I'm using the one that was on my Galant before I yanked the A/T out. It hasn't given me any trouble since it is on the non-pressurized side of the system.

I got all the parts to convert my power steering lines to Russel AN lines and I was wondering how you guys put the lines together? They are a little different then standard AN lines because it has a brass fitting that was inside. Is that suppose to go on the outside of the hose?

That little brass ferule presses in between the outter braid and the inner telfon liner. I'll see if I can find a write-up or some pictures.

EDIT: Here you go: http://www.totalcostinvolved.com/assets/pdf/Late_Power_Steering_Line_Install_Sheet.pdf

Indeed, and they work quite well I might add. I wish I had that link when I installed mine, but the fittings are no big deal to install.

Here's the link I used: http://www.russellperformance.com/misc/tech/dl/tech_page.pdf

Yeah after doing some search and stuff I think for my self for now electric power steering pump and after market cooler is not an option.

I'm just going to use my old cooler I just need to know what the oil cooler Is aluminum or ss I will be welding fittings on the catch can and oil cooler.

The stock "cooler" is just a looped line that sits behind the radiator. Not much of a cooler IMO. You could spend a small amount and do your P/S system much better. Consider something like this. They're only $40, AN fitting ready, easy to fit anywhere, and your fluid temps will thank you. :)

i don't plan on doing any auto x, what would be the plus on going all the way with cooler and all,
as for steering will it improve over stock ?
in what way?

Hopefully someone more experienced with abusing the power steering system can chime in here... (IE. autocrossers or road racers)

I assume that as the fluid heats up, the viscosity changes and so can the feel for the steering. This is probably why a cooling system was implemented from the factory - to ultimately keep the steering feel consistant.

I can't tell you how important the cooler is to retain on a street car that doesn't see excessive turning loads (again, hopefully someone else can chime in here). But if you want to keep some sort of cooler, you might as well improve from the factory design.
