I was driving slightly over the speed limit of 40 mph yesterday wheat an intersection some guy in a z28 tried to pull out and make a turn. Only thing Wrong there is that I was already at the intersection. I swerve to avoid him and hit a Dakota. I didnt want to try to make the turn in fear that the car would flip and I didnt want to go on the grass in fear that I would go into someones living room. Here's pics let me know what you think. It was drivable but radiator busted. So I couldn't go far. Just parked at a safe spot.

That sucks, although those are awful long skid marks with a good bit of force behind the impact still for going "slightly" over 40mph.

To answer your question though.

Front radiator support replacement.
Radiator
Probably AC condensor
Bumper.

And whatever underlying damage to fans, etc that we can't see.

Possibly the hood if a body shop can't massage out that metal warp.

He left at first. Then about 5 minutes later he came back. Skid marks are really long. Tires suck I was replacing them this weekend along with bleeding the system. Also, I know I was only a little over 40 because I was teaching my friend about rev matching and I was decelerating 4th to 5th

Lol as you can see from this well built Dakota... I hit near the rear wheel well

Yea the guy I hit was really cool. He was like you can't drive it too far so jus keep it in my drive way. Offered me a beer and said if I needed him as a witness it was fine and he wasn't going to get his insurance involved as long as it was jus body work. He's gonna check axles and stuff today. Im gonna call the z28 guy today and see if he wants to settle outside of court

I agree, those are long marks. How much further do they go behind the camera...

*cough* bullshlt *cough* *cough* :)

Fixed. You need to remember that you are talking to DSM guys here, not an insurance agency or the police. :D

From the looks of it, you have a pretty good amount of damage to the radiator support, crash beam, and possibly other areas of the front unibody. Hopefully it didn't knock anything back into the head or block.

Even tho there is not much damage, the insurance company may total out the car.

Why do they even let those mullet machines on the road with other drivers?

Oh yes they will. Old car and airbags deployed as well defenetly total

This.
Airbags going off an old car = written off.
I'd cut the rad support off and see if the unibody is bent before even thinking about repairing it.

LOL at 40mph. Coming down from 5th gear???? That's lugging the engine down. Try not to get the insurance company involved. They will definately total the car out with deployed air bags. Had the same thing happen a few years back with my Intrepid. I couldn't even buy the car back from them and it was drivable except for the bags.

Insurance will definitely total it since air bags were deployed. It's not cheap to fix once they go.

My sister had an 06 tiburon gt and it was snowy out and she somehow managed to hit a curb. She then pulled it into a parking lot and once she stopped the air bags went off. There was no damage other than some bumper scratches but the air bags alone got the car totaled. Just saying since you have an older vehicle that's most likely not very valuable these days, it's totaled.

long skid marks=well over 40mph.

looks like you got it woed down wnough before you hit the truck though. if you were to have hit him at the speed you were going (~50), there would have been alot more damage. +1 for braking, -1 for crap tires.

Don't report it to insurance. As stated, the car will definitely be totaled out.

What you will need to fis it is
1. Radiator support
2. Bumper reinforcement
3. Front bumper bracket
4. Bumper cover
5. At least the pass headlight (cant tell if the driver's one is broken)
6. Most likely will need an AC condenser
7. Hood
8. Driver and passener air bags
9. Black ash tray. ROFL
10. Paint

Your looking at about $1000 to get it looking like new again. Maybe a bit more depending on paint.

Hen I say slightly I don't mean 1-5mph I mean about 15 I had to to show him the rev match. When I'm in 4th and doin 50 rpm's are at or a little over 3k. So I put it in 5th on regular driving. I rev matched and that's when he guy decided to cone out. Lol I know you guys aren't insurance or cops. I have nothing to lie to fellow DSMers about. Insurance most likely will choose to total. I migt just keep it and part it out. If the guy chooses to settle out of court I might look into a GSX

Lol yea the ash tray. When I bout it the guy tried to do the interior white and there was some kind of white house paint on the doors and mid console. With a white shift knob. Horrible

Not the worst part it had blue underglow and 19in white rims on a 4in drop. No lie

Ok so saw a 420a for about 800 with a blown trans. Should I look into buying it for the parts to fix my car? Does it have o be the exact same year?

hows the body? itd probably be less hassle to swap your drivetrain into the donor car... if you have the equipment.
