Just bought a 92 gst manual transmission.

Could I take my ecu out of my galant and plug it in the gst ecu's place its throwing CEL and is idling at 1700 rpms

So I would like to use ecm link to help figure everything out..

Is there any problem with the procedure I stated above.
The only thing I'm worried about is the isc blowing my drivers.

For idle could be lots of things, usually boost leaks, isc, could be ecu, ecmlink i have it but it helped some but most of it was standard idle issues. My link showed me isc switch, and the tps volts, and i could simulate the idle switch.

hey if me and my brother split the cost of the ecmlink can we use it on both of our dsm's??

If we each get our ecu's epromed we can't use the same computer and program to applya tune to either car? So then how do people tune eachothers car? Im alittle confused...

ok. so we are gonna send our ecu's in to be epromed. check. and we have a laptop. check. now we only need to purchase one ecmlink and program right??

The software you load on the laptop is free. The ECMlink chip you put in your ECU is what you have to buy, and it can only be in one ECU at a time. So yeah you only have to buy one if you only plan to drive one car at a time.

This is what you get when you order one ECMlink package. That red chip is what is placed in the socket inside your ECU. This is what holds your tune, all your settings, etc. If you want to purchase one copy of link and share it, you will have to remove the ECU from the car, remove that little red chip from the socket inside the ECU, then place it in your brother's ECU and reinstall the ECU in the car. You will then have you reload all of the settings specific to his car onto the little red chip.

This picture shows you the area that the little red chip will be placed (where the arrow points to).

Don't share, as you can see from above it'll be a real pain. Buy 2 packages and be done with it.

I'm not sure where you got that idea, unless you read the first line in post #8 literally. I took that as to say they were sending in their ECU's to get socketed. And then they were going to purchase one package for the both of their ECU's.

I'm pretty sure they won't sell one package with 2 chips, considering the chip is the necessary/important part of the package. And if they do, it'll be pretty close to the price of 2 separate packages anyway.

to have the ecu socketed was like $135, so if we have both socketed with separate chips. but we buy one program. its like 800$ total to buy two ecmlinks and 2 chiped ecus is gonna be like 1300$... nitroazz has the right idea.

By getting your ECU socketed, that doesn't mean you get one of the red, reprogrammable chips. You get your ECU back with the stock chip in it, just inserted in a socket so it's removable instead of being soldered to the circuit board.

You don't need to buy "a program", if you're referring to the software in that statement. It's a free download.

Or maybe I'm still confused...

I don't think they're getting it... But when they get both ecu's and one chip is red and the other is stock it may set in

Wow.. What a mind :p. That just wasted 10 minutes of my day.

This has been explained fairly well, whats the problem?

You need to both get the red chip for your car. You can use one computer to tune every dsm in the world. But each car has to have their own chip in it. Both you guys need to get a seprate chip to hold your own tune in each car. Buy one package that contains everything then get a second chip for the second car. A third chip for a third. Ect. Ect.

That's what everyone is trying to explain to the OP. You CANNOT just buy a chip. You have to buy a package (which includes everything) and that includes the chip. Ecmlink does not sell just the chip.
