Update to my Project

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone!!

Just an update to my previous post!!

Well it's been a long way coming! Car is finally 100% mine as of yesterday, as of Thursday it is at the votech, and next Thursday I'm going to Extreme PSI to talk to them about solutions.

However does anyone know of a place in NJ/PA/NY/MD/DE area that I can get a 5 speed AWD trans at a decent price and decent milage that isn't rusted? And I think I may scale back the project to reach a goal of 300+ HP instead of going for 350-400HP.

Also I know it is early and I am not going to buy these until the mantainence & modifications are done first, but I just found out yesterday I get a wicked discount on Pioneer & Infinity/JBL/Harman Kardon products so what are your opinons on products? I have listed several below however I am not a boom-boom person when it comes to radio but more of an audiophile and want a crisp, clean, high quality sound system so sub doesn't need to be powerful.

Headunit:
Pioneer AVIC-Z120BT Double DIN MSRP $1599 My price $980

AMP
KAPPA FIVE 5-Channel Class D Amp MSRP $599 My Price $301

Front Speakers
KAPPA60.9CS 6.5" 2-way Component System MSRP $279.99 My Price $141
or
KAPPA Perfect 6.1 6.5" Component System MSRP $475 My Price $226.60

Rear Speakers
KAPPA693.9I 6"x9" 3-way Loudspeaker MSRP $229 My Price $113
or
KAPPA680.9CS 6"x8" Component System MSRP $279 My Price $141

Front In-dash Speakers
(I've heard the speaker size being between 2"-4" so I listed two)
KAPPA10.9T 1" Edge-driven Tweeter MSRP $140 My Price $68
or
KAPPA32.9CF 3.5" 2-way Loudspeaker MSRP $120 My Price $55

Subwoofer
(I am debating a preloaded enclosure or making my own in the spare tire well)
REF1220SE Single 12" Preloaded Enclosure MSRP $279 My Price $165
or
REF1220DE Dual 12" Preloaded Enclosure MSRP $475 My Price $264
or
KAPPA100.9W 10" High Performance Sub MSRP $229 My Price $112
or
KAPPA Perfect 10DVQ 10" Die-Cast Sub MSRP $269 My Price $144

Let me know what you think and if its a good ideal to get rid of the spare or possibly just drop it lower than stock with new brackets welded to accomodate the sub. I am thinking about screwing the sub to the bottom of the particle board for the spare compartment and covering it with metal on top so I can still use the trunk area.

Thanks again!!!

Started on my list of mods so tell me what you think:

Apexi N1 Catback and Downpipe
Magnus 2G Intake Manifold
VRSF 2G Front Mount Intercooler Kit
Tokico HP Suspension Kit
Injen IS Series Intake w/ BOV Recirculation

Still waiting for the turbo choice until I go to Extreme PSI

Well it sounds like a nice project man as for the audio id go with these choices

Headunit:
Pioneer AVIC-Z120BT Double DIN MSRP $1599 My price $980

AMP
KAPPA FIVE 5-Channel Class D Amp MSRP $599 My Price $301

Front Speakers
KAPPA60.9CS 6.5" 2-way Component System MSRP $279.99 My Price $141

Rear Speakers
KAPPA693.9I 6"x9" 3-way Loudspeaker MSRP $229 My Price $113

or possibly get the converter piece and run 6.5s in the rear as well

Front In-dash Speakers
KAPPA32.9CF 3.5" 2-way Loudspeaker MSRP $120 My Price $55

and this for the sub

KAPPA Perfect 10DVQ 10" Die-Cast Sub MSRP $269 My Price $144 they sound amazing

I usually start by asking people what type of music you listen to and how much you want to spend but since u gave posted options and say you are into sound quality i would go kappa perfect all the way or check into the pioneer premier series. i wouldnt suggest the suspended route with the sub because of rattles and open air enviroment wouldnt support the suspension of the cone enough to reproduce accurately... you would have to use a free air sub and more than likely not sound very good. shoot for a sealed box or vented box tuned around 40hz for the 10. get a deck that has time delay if your going for sound quality.

I am anxious to get this car up and running! I will heed your guys advice. I am not the car stereo guru I would like to be. Going to Extreme PSI Saturday and I'm just hoping they don't show me the door.

So I am 90% sure what the system would be but have a question. Should I go with the KAPPA FIVE which is a 5-chaneel amp with 4 x 50W RMS and 1 x 350W RMS for the sub or should I go with a KAPPA FOUR rated at 4 x 150W RMS and KAPPA ONE rated at 1 x 800W RMS?

Fronts:

Kappa Perfect 6.1 Component 6.5" with 1" Tweeter

Rears:
KAPPA Perfect 5.1 Component 5.25" with 1" Tweeter
(Going to use a custom bracket to sit these in the 6 x 9 configuration)

Sub:
KAPPA Perfect 10.1

Dash:
KAPPA 32.9CF 3.5" Two-way speakers with Tweeter

What do you guys think?

As an audiophile myself, I would ONLY use the Headunit. There are much better choices for speakers to be had at even more reasonable prices. Personally, I also would stick with separate dedicated amplifiers to drive the system. OZ audio has a 4x50w @ 4ohms for under 200 as I recall. I used this in my Xterra and it was WAY under-rated as well. I bench tested it at 87w per channel @ 4 ohms. As for the Dash speakers, I would recommend using just the tweeter from a decent set of components, as that is all that is up there to begin with.
For the Lows, I would build a custom enclosure. PREFABS SUCK! The typical build quality is lack luster, and the tend to fall apart from what I have noticed. I would also broaden my search past all matching infinity brand. Also, only use 1 set of separates, otherwise you WILL screw up the sound staging. if you must use rear fill i recommend a good set of 6x9 coaxials, just 2-ways..
Try Car Audio Forum - CarAudio.com and check the classifieds, many MANY good deals to be had there.

As for my GSX i plan on/ already have Kicker RS6 components up front, 8" midbass woofers, an RE XXX 15" sub, a sundown1000.1 and 100.4 for amps... MORE THAN ENOUGH for me.. I'm not a bass head either, but in my little hatch it moves some air.

Just a thought, not a sermon.

Also, if you aren't too far, I would even be willing to assist you in system design, Fab, and install. 90% of a decent sound system is in the quality of the install. But also remember, it all adds weight to your whip, more weight means slower time slips.

Well I was thinking the Perfect 6.1 Tweeters can go to the dash.... :D

I don't think the system is all that bad pricewise. For the fronts, rear and sub is only $600.

The problem is amps.

The KAPPA FIVE is only $302 but if I want to go seperate, the KAPPA FOUR and the KAPPA ONE is $544. WTF

I usually mix components with home sound system (Pioneer receiver and Deftech speakers) but I have been happy with the Inifinity's I have used in my GSX in the past.

As far as the custom enclosure, I am thinking of putting the sub over to the left side of the trunk where the accessory box is located, cutting a hole in the wheel well cover and putting a mesh grill to keep the sub from getting damaged
