Before I go on. I know about crankwalk and I dont have symptoms of it. Thanks..

Ok so just recently I have been getting this weird sound.

Before my motor use to sound like this, like a cherp when reving

YouTube - Mitsubishi Eclipse 2G DSM, Crankwalk? Pt. 2 (Better Quality, Digi Cam)

Now it sounds like it has really bad lifter tick, sometimes you can hear it constantly at idle sometimes its not there or goes away?. when at cruise the car really makes the sound. This noise started after I changed my oil 2 days ago using a Fram filter, Which i have heard bad about(after the fact), changed it out for a mobil 1 and still seeing lower oil pressure and those sounds (stock oil gauge is always reading below the first line, it use to run above that line!). boosts but sounds like a bunch of air moving and the car is not going anywhere! Can someone help me figure out what this is?

YouTube - Litter tick or rod knock? Dsm

Sounds like a rod to me, time to tare her apart and see whats wrong.

More sounds like a lifter that died, or is weak .. too high of a pitch and no metal to metal clanging to sound like rod knock. For the first video sorta hints of a tired lifter even though the motor doesn't sound too bad at idle, but you did hear the lifters knock before the oil pressure got up to quiet them down .... and that oil change and lower pressure is making that tired lifter come out alive and well...

Pull the oil cap and listen to what's above in the head area and you can take the dipstick out, put the head of the stick next to your ear and poke the other end to where it touches the block - this is the mechanic's version of a stethoscope....

You might have to do an oil drain to see if you got metal fragments in the oil itself ... it will look like metal flake swirling around in the oil...

Good luck - DSM

See I love your post because there is something that is telling me that its the lifter also...

I could tell my lifters were tired because of the cherping sounds from the head from before and some bad cruise ticking/knocking

I also experienced this problem almost disappear at one point. In the video above the car is making a loud noise at idle, sometimes the car doesn't as serious of a knocking/ticking noise, also previously noted during excel the sound goes completely away... I would consider rod knock to be 24/7 noise ?! maybe im wrong.

I just cold started the motor. Zero knocking/ticking noise for the first 2 min, as it steady got warm the ticking was coming on gradually.. any insight?

Definitely rod knock, no question. Even in the first video.

What oil were you running? Also, you need to stop driving it ASAP before you send a rod threw the block.

Sounds like you spun a rod bearing. I'd stop driving the car in hopes that the crank is still ok but from the sound of things, it's not. You've got some work ahead of you. If you want verification, pull the oil pan off and check the rod bearings.

u most likely already messed up your crankshaft as well. either do a 6 bolt swap already, rebuild that engine, or find a used 7 bolt..

Didn't see any metal in the oil.

Installed 3g lifters, noise is there still...

Pulling the oil pan off tomorrow probably rod knock

you can hope its the lifters all you want... but thats not the case. You've spun one or more bearings and are lucky you haven't thrown a rod. You're going to need, at minimum, your crank cut, new oversized rod bearings, and possibly, a new rod entirely.

Checking flywheel bolts also. I installed fidanza flywheel without locktight, might be the problem.

I'm sick of people not listening to people who have personal preferance with things that people ask questions about..

Like Rod knock. Dude, it's a bearing going. 100% Bearing;

Not your lifters, not your flywheel.. It's your bearing(s).

My 98 Spyder had rod knock, it's nasty like the noise in your video. You can't mistake it..

if you rev your motor at idle, and hit around 2-2.5k and you hold the rpm, and you hear something knocking. IT'S THE ROD BEARING. Believe me. happened to mine. Also at top of any rpm when driving the car, you hear the noise; It's the rod bearing.

Pull the motor and replace it/rebuild it. Good luck.
