Alright guys, well I just finished my 14B install in my 95 GSX. All is well besides some minor oil leaks on the return line and the SS feed line at the filter housing. There was also a VERY minor coolant leak from the front banjo bolt on the turbo. I tightened it a tad and I think i went away. Now the turbo is spooling really late because I think there may be a leak before the turbo.
Now on to the problems.

1. The turbo does not smoke at all besides at WOT sometimes it blows out whiteish grey smoke. I'm trying to think of where it could be burning coolant. It never did this before the turbo install.

2. There was some white smoke the past 2 days at the manifold. I'm thinking its the shitload of PB Blaster that I sprayed all over the car but I'm not sure.

3. There's a smell coming from my engine that I can smell if I pop my hood and it becomes more noticeable when I'm driving and really get on it. It smells like burning plastic sort of, with a mix of burning rubber. The lower heat shield is not on the car because it's a pain to get on and I haven't put it back on because I haven't had time. Nothing is touching anything hot so I 'm confused...The only possible thing is maybe I pout on a new 4 ply exhaust mani. gasket as well as antiseize on most of the bolts and the turbo-mani. bolts.

Any help? Thanks.

Awesome thanks Nikk90! Just to make sure before I buy the parts, even thoough the compression test showed good numbers is there anyway that its the piston rings?? Since this motor did sit around for about 8 months before I bought it, and there WAS rust in the cams and water in the oil pan. Is it possible the piston rings are rusted and STILL give a good compression of 180 all across?? I REALLY hope thats not the case though

I was wondering because the blue smoke comes the exhaust right away at start up and idle, and a shitload of smoke when decelarating after a hard pull

Need help just put my car together so when i turn it on its smoking so i dont know what to do

my 2g is smoking white

Do a leak down test as it will be more informative than a compression test.

hopefully its not a blow head gasket.

I been trying 2 figure out why my car sometimes throws white smoke out when I start it up in the mornings sometimes. It smells burnt but not like oil, I'm wondering if it could b bcuz I hav a hollowed out cat. I don't hav any CEL codes or anything. No check engine. One time it through smoke while I was driving but that was like a month ago.
Any suggestions r appreciated.
BTW its a 95 gsx wit 160k.

do a leak down test. white smoke is usually an indication of a leaking head gasket. It might be more noticeable at start up since the car has had time to let a larger amount of coolant into the cylinder

It could be because it is cold. Usually white smoke means that you are burning coolant. It is a distinct smell if you know what it smells like...almost like burning maple syrup haha. That is what I describe it as anyways. Have you been loosing coolant at all?

WHITE smokes "usually" indicates burning of oil. One time my sister dump too much oil into her engine, it burned white smokes for awhile til it burned all off. Could be same for you OP. How could you be burning coolant?? :aha: care to explain?? If you have a blown gasket and/or broken water jacket then obviously your running like cr@p.

OP check your oil level.

White smoke = coolant

And it burns when the headgasket is blown, or on its way out.

Oil burns more of a bluish color.

white smoke is usually coolant. Oil is normally blueish or black and will stink like oil and you will find oil splatters behind the tail pipe.

it leaks into the cylinder and you burn it. You dont have to be running like crap with a blown head gasket. If it is a hairline failure you might be loosing so little coolant you wouldn't even know it unless you know to monitor it.

White smoke is usually coolant, but it'll smell sweet. However, when a turbo starts to fail, the oil leaking past the bearings and seals will TEND TO burn with a whitish/gray smoke, particularly if you're using a synthetic oil. A compression/leakdown test will tell you more for sure.

Haha, excuse my language, but he^^ forgot his name LOL

and perhaps I am mistaking gray smoke for white.

So I got my ECU back from ECMTuning today and when I plugged it back in and started the car it was pouring out white smoke. I couldn't find anything that was like mine. It doesn't have a sweet smell to it, it actually has kind of a nasty smell. There was a bunch of engine work done on the car about 1000 because of a timing belt slip. I checked the turbo yesterday and it has no shaft play and it's not burning any oil. But the car does need to have the timing set because the CAS was removed while the car was not working. Also it is kind of cold over here so it might be condensation but I'm not sure. Could the timing issue be causing this or is it something else? Also is it bad to drive it like this?

I just recently had a very similar issue with my gsx. I had a combination of 3 things causing my problem, a very high and erratic idle caused by my timing being off a bit,a dead IAC motor, and apparently my turbo had its seals blown ( hardly any shaft play) which was really throwing me off. Also I was running synthetic oil which tends to burn more white that blue. I had the same of white smoke pouring out my exhaust. Replaced turbo,IAC and redid my timing belt and all my seals and fixed my issue.

Any other symptoms you can notice as far as how does it idle (rpms)?

Well for one my IAC has one bad coil out of three. In my original one all three coils were bad and so i picked this one up from a junkyard. I later found out it had one bad coil. They seem to go pretty quickly at the junkyards around here. It took me quite a while to find one. Also I know the timing is off for sure, but I don't know by how much. I am going to get a timing light with advance today and then I will fix the timing tomorrow because it is supposed to stop raining. I'm pretty sure the turbo is fine because it was replaced with another used turbo when the engine work (A family friend gave me the car for free and he was the one that had all of the engine work done) The idle is a little weird it will start high and then goes down slowly

I know it looks like coolant but it smells nothing like coolant. I'm going to do a compression test when I can find a tester somewhere but it has been running great today and yesterday. I set the timing and adjusted the BISS screw so that it idles at about 750 - 800rpm and now there is now white smoke at all.

Does it smell like you are burning way too much gas? I just had a problem where one of my injectors was constantly running. Turned out to be a chaffed wire in my harness for that injector that was grounding out. Just something you might want to look into.
