Hey-

Need your advice to select the correct fuel pump.

I drive 100 miles/day commute and starting a mild upgrade:

Now:
Upper intercooling pipe
1G BOV
Fuel pump

Soon:
FP Big T28
550 injectors
S-AFC

I ordered the 1G BOV and fuel pump yesterday from a well known shop.
The shop recommended 255lph and insisted that I do not need a AFPR for the 255.

All the threads I have found state AFPR is required. I sent a email to the shop and the shop replied NO AFPR is not needed.

Should I cancel the order and replace with the 190lph or is the shop correct and the 255 wil be fine without the AFPR?

Any addtional recommendations on my mod list (part/mfg/ect) greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your response!

Existing mods already completed:

3" SS turbo back exhaust
K&N Filter
manual boost controller
boost guage
A/F guage
BCS restrictor removed

K1 racing wheels
Beefy anti sway bar
KYB ajustable shocks
Tower strut bars

Thanks

This subject has been beaten up- whether or not the 255 overruns the stock fpr. The reason for this is supposedly because the return orifice in the factory fpr is too small, thereby restricting flow and causing the base fuel pressure to rise beyond the stock setting, resulting in a constant rich condition. I for one havenever tried running a 255 without an AFPR, so I cannot comment. 1G base fuel pressure is 37.5psi, while your 2G fuel pressure is 43.5 psi. Will the higher base FP of the 2G reg perhaps be less susceptable to overrun? Perhaps, however, the only way to know for sure would be to install the pump and put a gauge inline between the filter and rail to confirm fuel pressure. Honestly, a rewired 190lph would more than suit your setup, but if you plan on taking the car further, Id definitely look into the 255, and even some of the newer pumps availible from MAP and Jay Racing, and a good AFPR really isnt expensive.

i say walboro 255, i had almost you're same mods when i was starting out in the dsm world and the 255 worked like a charm :)

Thanks for your quick response and detailed information.

I will cancel the order and go with the 190, since this will be sufficient for the FP Big T28 upgrade.

Any other recommedations on the mod list (have I missed anything) or recommendations on mfg, ect.

I don't have a lot of money to spend on upgrades and only want to target the best upgrades that are proven to make a significant difference in percievable performance in daily driving application.

I struggled ith the T28 turbo decision and have read the EVO III would be a better upgrade, but my current thinking is that keeping the car stock apperance would be best for California smog ck inspection (they do a visual and hook up to the OBD to montor during test). Easy install also seems desirable.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Ok...I did not see the additonal replies before I responded..

Is the AFPR something that is desireable for my mod list or ill the 190 suffice?

Sorry the W on my keyboard is not working well and spell ck did not correct ill (should be will)

Well, since you have a 95, you might want to check and see if you have an eprom and if so, you may want to purchase DSMLINK instead of the SAFC because youll have so much more tunability and room to grow. Regarding the 190, if it were me, and money wasnt a big deal, Id go ahead with the AFPR and one of the pumps from Jay Racing that outflows the 255- again, just room to grow later, if desired. Forced Performance sells EVO III turbos in a very good package deal including everything you need to put the turbo on a 2G and then some. Just something to look into before settling on the t28, which is a decent turbo for your goals, while the EVO III IMO, is a better setup. Just comes down to whether or not youll want more out of the car later and if you think you will, just spend a little more now and get what you need, otherwise, youll be selling the 190, the safc and the t28 later and getting the stuff I mentioned. As far as your mods list goes, it looks good so far, but keep in mind that the best "mods" you can perform on the car will be getting the maintenence all up to date before anything else:thumb:

I would stop what you're doing and re-plan. You're falling into the classic "Mod Trap". You will buy what you think you'll be happy with and you won't and then the wasted money starts. You'll over work those 550's without much effort and as for the t28 you might wanna look at something a little better for the long run. As someone stated above, check and see if you have an Eprom ecu and go with DSMlink. I'd also go with the 255 with a fpr.

I like the supra denso fuel pump alternative. Look at the flow rates of the pump they are listed Road///Race Engineering Mitsubishi Eclipse Parts and Performance. when is is not rewired you won't need a fpr then when you need to re wire it it will out flow a 255. I ran that exact same setup with the t28 with exception of 660's tuned on a safc2. If I had to do it over again would have went with a 16g or a holset hx35. The t28 really lacks in the top end.

Thanks.

I appreciate the detailed response.

Any information or link on cking for the EPROM (photo's ect)?

Stupid question: where is the computer located on the 2G Talon?

If I have the EPROM, I will go with the DSM link (thanks!):thumb:

The fuel pump/AFPR/turbo will need more consideration based on your feed back. Thanks.

I definetly don't want to limit the performance in a way that will lead to wasted parts and money in the future, but not sure that I would need anything more that the T28 for daily driving.

From the my intended use decription will the T28 be the best choice or am I just naively reading/accepting the spec's on the T28 and in actual use the T28 is just not in the same performance level as the EVO?

Thanks

hat is the realistic performance difference between the FP Big T28 and the EVO III?

I thought that they were close to the same.:|

Thanks.

I appreciate the detailed response.

Any information or link on checking for the EPROM (photo's ect)?

the ECU in a 2g is located in the center console, under the radio. Take off the sides of the center console and you really can't miss it.
