just purchased a 97 gst and looking for a exhaust. i want something that has a deep loud and aggresive note. i know with the apexi exhaust you can get the apexi downpipe, but what about the HKS?

The Apexi N1 is not a very good system in my opinion and is way overpriced. I would go with the HKS if those are the two you are debating between. And as far as the downpipe goes, there are plenty of them that will mate up with the HKS system just fine.

I went with a full 3" from Thermal Racing it has a 4" tip and it's stage 3 stainless steel. Great deep growl but still sounds like an eclipse should. I would recommend that one man.

which of the two have bigger pipe size. i heard the gst has a smaller pipe size then the gsx. which downpipe will fit hks the best and is the best combo? espelir, tanabe?

I would not get the N1. It will rust, the muffler will blow out, and it has several restrictions throughout the 3 inch system.

For that kind of money I would get the Thermal R&D. It has the tone you are looking for and is polished SS. It is also much lighter than systems like the N1.

Don't spend a ton of money on a fricken pipe. A local exhaust shop can make you exactly what you want for way less money. And if a problem comes up, you can actually bring them the car.

money is not a problem. i dont mind spending money on a exhaust. i just want one that sounds the loudest and deepest. are there any downpipes that bolt right up the thermal?

The Thermal is designed to connect to a stock catalytic converter flange. To do so, it necks down where it attaches. You will need to cut off the end of the Thermal and possibly weld a small extension onto it with a new larger flange.

Hmm.. Interesting, I have only had my Apexi WS2 for 2 months and on where the factory weld that has the tip to the can around there is starting to rust noticed at the car wash yesterday.. Was thinking about sending Apexi a email..

i see you have RRE down pipe. with the thermal exhaust would u recommond w the cat/ or test pipe and how much louder is it?

I have the HKS on my GSX and my buddies have the N1. At idle they sound about the same. The N1 has a much deeper sound. Mine is pretty quiet on the road compared to theirs. The N1 exits the car much straighter and the HKS has a more of an angle to it. Looks wise I like my HKS, Sound wise I would get the N1. I do scrape the exhaust because of the angle, the N1 has better clearance. I had to remove 3" on my exhaust because my DP is too long. (Not sure what brand the DP is and no catalytic)

HKS Hi-Power! Sounds Deep and amazing!!! That's what I have! :talon:

Id get the HKS out of the two. The AWD N1 isn't bad, but the FWD N1 is the one with all the restrictions. It can rust out as well. I like the N1, I have it on my AWD, and so far it hasn't rusted out, but it always could LOL. otherwise have someone make you a good flowing one with whatever piping and style muffler you want.

I have a PR 3" downpipe with a custom cat back (no cat no resonators) attached to a 5" Apex'i Dunk tip....I love it. :)

find a mom and pop exhaust shop and get the mufflers you want, then have them bend and weld for you. way cheaper than a name brand and you can get whatever sound you like. i am spending 60-90 on mufflers & resonators and i found a shop that will weld it all up for $100. thats under $200 for a full turboback system, and i am getting exactly the sound i want. if i want it to be quieter i can just go back and have the guy slap on another resonator for a few bucks.

I was going to say I will sell you mine but you have a 2g. I am going to make my own. #in. off the o2 housing, strait back no cat no resonator no muffler. But I am going to make a muffler looking thing at the end so I wont get stopped all the time. But there is going to be a pipe through it.

i think im gunna get the thermal R&B exhaust w/ RRE downpipe w/ highflow cat.

I bought my Thermal R&D from Bonehead performance and it specifically says that it is a full true 3" system and will NOT bolt up to the stock cat. It goes on to say that they include an extra 3" flange to weld on to the cat. I have not received it yet to verify if this is true though.

Congrats on the promotion BTW.

The thermal exhaust is one of the best sounding exhausts imo, but you could also have one custom made at your local exhaust shop to sound exactly how you want it. I had a cat-back custom made 3 in with no resonators or muffler and it is loud! I love the sound. It's all a matter of opinion though.
